    Damn man. I subscribed to your channel before the intro video was even finished. Your "start here" approach is excellent, vs. everyone else with the big elaborate jobs and us beginners getting lost and struggling to follow within the first 5 minutes. You earned that beer brother. Now, I'm heading out to the garage. Cheers!

    Thanks for sharing. Seems that there are loads and loads of 'how to' stripe or scroll stripe online...but nothing current. They all are months and months or even years old.
    It's always a pleasure to watch something more current.
    Please continue with your videos...perhaps doing a job or some other techniques.

      Yep...I will be going through all of your posted videos. Great stuff so far. I am trying to get a hang on the scrolling stuff. Still have a bit of a struggle with design and trying to make something have that 'wow' effect.
      Looking forward to all and anything you can share.
      I am still in the early stages so anything to actually watch is always a real pleasure.

    If you are using multiple colors with the same brush, do you have different cups of spirits ready so the old paint in the cup of spirits doesn't taint the clean brush or do you use the same cup of spirits even though it has remnants of different paints?

    Excellent tutorial; thank you for taking the trouble to help us beginners! A quick question if you have time.... I have a vintage bike tank that has been repainted in 2 pack and now I need to add some traditional pinstripe lines. Would you use one pack cellulose or One Shot enamel? Also would I ruin my brushes using cellulose?

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can clear over enamel paint only if you add paint hardener. It's all explained in my later tutorials.

    Fantastic job teaching folks on the how to basic's. I do the same on my channel on everything I do. Just getting started but There is not much I do not do myself.
    With that being said, Delboy recommended you and your channel. I am going to be buying an replacement tank for the bike I am building (Eleanor) I have torn her down to the frame and have almost finished everything I want to do in stages.
    Last stage is tank. Do you paint also, or just detail. When I can save the cash would you want to do this for me? I live in Texas, so of course would need to mail you the tank.

    Are you using a Series 10? What would be a good series/brush to begin with if practicing on a 12inch x 18inch panel ?

    Hi Mackie, got a question for you.. were your lines as crap as mine when you first started? I mean they are all over the place and like flaring out and moving around and... horrible... what were yours the first time you did anything with a pinstriping brush?

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah. All over the place - a day I realized it is not that easy. But keep at it man. There is no secret to it - practice. You will be amazed how quickly you can sharpen that skill. And most importantly - have fun with it. Don't try to make money on it - just enjoy it and itwill flow!

    • @anicharn4251
      @anicharn4251 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a matter of fact I do not want to make money on it, all I want is to be able to pinstripe my bike at some point and go "look at it! LOOOOK AT IT! I (me?) made a thing!"... you know....... and then money will fall from the sky and I'll be invited to all of the parties..... (yeah right, I am not being serious here) :P

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you know it man. All I meant is I know a lot of people who think they will buy a brush and within a week they can charge a fortune to pinstripe somebody's pride and joy - it doesn't work that way. I got into it becoause it is amazing artform and I do enjoy every single bit of it! Keep at it and you'll see imporvment really quickly!

    Got a question Mackie when you store your brush with oil and you clean the oil out in spirits do you discard that spirits or do you keep using that same jar to thin your paints and clean or do color changes as well? Or do you use different Jars with spirits? And if so does the oil mess with the paint any? It's something I didn't see you go over in your series. And was wondering. Keep up the good work !

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man. i usually work with 4 containers of white spirit - first wash (where I also wash the oil off), second wash, third wash - this is usually enough, but sometimes just to make sure I use 4th one to wash off all the residue and paint. I discard them by the end of the day usually, or when day get super polluted. Common sense really. Hope that helps buddy.

    • @Airel17
      @Airel17 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      MackieBass it does make sense that's what I've been doing but when watching the videos it looks like you only have one jar of cleanup spirits and I'm thinking to myself how's that possible ? Lol most people I assume have at least 2. Thanks for your response.

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    After striping for over 30 years now, found the faster I pull the lines, the more uniform they are. It comes with alot of practice of course. Using only the tip of the brush is the key. And DON'T use motor oil on your brushes! Use Olive oil to keep the brustles soft between jobs and rinse it off with thinner before striping.

    • @MackieBass
      @MackieBass  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, thanks for feedback and your comment. I used motor oil for years now (maybe not 30, but still) and never had a problem with it. Olive oil works just as well. And yes practice is the key as with everything. Best wishes.
