What a beautiful day at Stoney! Once again, I made the massive mistake of deciding to work and not surf. That wave you caught towards the end of the vid was perfection!
Thank YOu 911 Surf Report for watching our humble home vids. Winter time is often the most productive. Actually sort of rare and infrequent, we usually get waves when the snow storms, and or low pressure goes over the big lake. Maybe once in ten days to two weeks in the winter. Sometimes we do get waves for several days though too. Sometimes,...we even get lucky in the summer time here.....e
@@ahbwisurfnpaddle So, you get waves like the rest of us. When a cold front swings over from Japan, into the North Pacific, moving Left to Right with the jet stream: Hawaii, Cali, Great Lakes, Gulf of Mexico, East Coast USA all get waves, [in that order]. I'm making this up but I think it's probably true! haha 😜
@@eddiewouldknow You just hit the forecast nail on the head 911. It's low pressure that makes the waves here, along with the temperature drop. It's why we also get so excited to see the big storms coming into the pacific northwest. Often they swing right around the Rockies, and come up to us. We also have the variable of warm fall water, with cold snow storms. But it's the super cold, near zero temps, and winds from the North that make the cleanest waves at stoney point.....e..
Greetings! great surfing vid! I just picked up my first board and would like to try out this lifestyle. Is there an online group I could join to get a heads up when the waves are good? Or do you guys rely on weather maps and such? Thanks - Logan
Hello LoganofNorth. Thanks for enjoying our humble home surf vids. The group/page you can check out is SToNeY PoiNT surf spot on FB. You'll see the link on our title page, right hand side of the wave. We watch NOAA, /National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration page for potentials on the next round of waves. We also compare noaa up to Windy.com for the second opinion forecast. Most often, the best waves happen during or just after the very worst weather. Winter is often the best season, but of course the coldest. Consider also looking up Back Alley Surf Shop in Duluth. Good folks, right stuff.....e.
In my opinion, this is among the most unique breaks in the world
Thank You Imhotterthenyou, we feel really lucky here for sure.....e..
