O my gosh Sir I want to thank you so much. My 2009 kia spectra lx did the same thing. I got on TH-cam and looked at your video and I did exactly what you said and I was able to start my car and use it until I get it replaced. Again thank you.
Thanks so much, my friends car wouldnt shift out of park nor was he able to remove the key, he put a screwdriver in the shift lock release and put it into drive then pulled the handle off and it works now! Found a new handle on ebay for $22. Thanks!
Thank you for your video! Saved me big $$ so I don’t have to pay exorbitant dealership part and labor fees. I pulled the defective knob off and ordered a $35 replacement on Amazon. The knob will be here in a few days so until then I am just pushing down on the white shaft to get in and out of park.
My mechanic was trying to tell me the entire gear system needed to be removed and replaced. I knew that couldn't right since I could shift once I got the button unstuck, it just kept sticking. Got a replacement For 20.00 from autozone, watched this video a couple times and replaced it in 30 minutes!! Thank you, from a grateful family on a budget!!!
That's a great video. I just had a KIA Forte that didn't want to go out of park. And when I had it all apart, there was just a screw that came undone, so I decided that I'll film it and post it here as well. But it seems like that KIA has a problem with their shifting mechanism.
Nice video but I like to correct this guy, the problem with the car is not in the car, the issue is at the front of the engine nothing has to do with the shifter knob. The problem is the shifter cable pivot 12mm nut at the neutral safety switch froze causing the shifter to stick hard. Hope this helps most people with Kia and Hyundai.
Can you tell me when I start up the car my steering wheel is locked before i start the car and the shift button is pushed in like it's stuck but when I turn on the car I could turn the starter on everything but when I turn it off it doesn't let me go all the way down past locked do you know what I should do

Yup that was it for me!
Same here. My Kia Spectra wouldn’t shift to “park”. It’s the danged knob that’s messed up.

What receiver is that?
I just looked for the one that fit my model car. The one I got was pretty Close to mfg.
Just had the same thing happened to my Kia Sportage, the Kia dealer wanted $217 for the gear shift knob, I found one on Amazon for 50 bucks
