Harvesting Rice in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija
Nueva Ecija is the country's rice granary. Gapan, one of its cities, despite being urbanized and a commercial center, still has vast portion of its area devoted to agriculture or rice production. Due to the presence of irrigation canal, it enjoys three croppings each year.
Unlike in the past when planting and harvesting of rice were done manually, today harvesting is done through the employment of hi-tech thresher machines popularly known as "Halimaw". This accomplishes the task of harvesting rice planted on a parcel of land in matter of minutes only.
This video was made just this morning, 30 March 2021, as three "Halimaw" thresher machines harvested the rice planted on a farm adjacent to our subdivision lot in Mangino, Gapan City.
