    This crushes Yngwies "masterclass".
    German precision at its finest. This is why i studied German in 88-91 and am still fluent. Wenn man genug Geld haben wirdt man kein Job in der Buro haben mussen.
    At my boring medical job i go thru my practice routine mentally for hours noting pick direction, sound and feel. At some level this is training my muscles. I did this all day and am exhausted and now i am remembering note sequences i worked on mentally and am enacting them with metronome on the guitar. I use various widths of picks the 0.6 mm nylon helps for a brighter sound and teaches speed rather than force although sometimes i use the tortex 1 mm though i find the sound more bassy. The thinner picks help me catch errors in my picking technique regarding string changes, angles of pick and pick direction.

    Question, the Zen of speed picking is all about the picking hand? Strangely I struggle mostly with the fretting hand...😢

    • @5zazen
      @5zazen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if you work on alternate outside picking it will improve your fretting hand memory and your fretting.
      Picking influences how the fretting happens. That is why fretting with the left hand is "right handed".

    • @JD-vj4go
      @JD-vj4go ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Something that helped me a lot was to play the lick I was struggling with using alternate picking and legato. I also have trouble with fret hand. Once both hands were up to speed I could combine them.

      @@JD-vj4go I'm practicing legato to try to fix this. I have bad pinky fly síndrome 🙄

    what is the tool you have on your knee to rest the guitar?

    • @justin.hombach
      @justin.hombach  ปีที่แล้ว

      it's a cushion you should get at sweatwater or Thoman, it brings the guitar into classical position without having my leg raised up all the time

    Yeah that's great and all, but way too much technique practice in my opinion. Why not focus more on writing actual music and improvising? Instead of treating it like a sport.

    • @justin.hombach
      @justin.hombach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have studied Jazz Guitar in University, and when it comes to improvising I used the same methods. Jamming over a Backingtrack is NOT working on your improvisation, you have to learn arpeggios, scales, chords, Intervalls etc und you can transform these methods as well on that, like playing over a chord progression for example.
      And you can use this also for working on techniques like phrasing, Vibrato, Bending etc why not?

      If a newbie like me read this, my question is how is one supposed to know how to write music when I don't know anything theory related, nor have the technical know-how to execute what I want to "write"
      That's like asking a skateboarder to grind a rail with his own falir when the dude is trying to balance on the board on flat ground.
