  • Tiny Dancer is a classic that should be on every piano player's list! One of Elton John's most iconic songs, Tiny Dancer was recorded in 1971 but didn’t gain popularity till much later.
In the US it was certified gold in 2005 and hit 3x platinum in 2008 after being featured in the film "Almost Famous". It's an awesome song to learn, play and perform, so I hope you enjoy this longer lesson!

    - Make the intro sound awesome - 3:04
    - The melody and verses - 4:34
    - The "Ballerina" part (I don't know what to call it lol) - 8:05
    - How to chord the song so you can sing along - 9:44
    - The bridge (pre-chorus?) section (and a key change!) - 11:45
    - The chorus! (the part nobody knows the words to but sings along anyway) - 15:26
    - A final playthrough - 19:28

So many people already said what i think of these tutorials: wanting to pratice it right after, feeling you might be able to do it even you don’t have 10 years of piano lessons, decomposition of a score made so simple that you understand the different parts, and finally her beautifull gorgeous voice. My favorite tutorials!

Me too. My parents always had a Piano in the house and I was self taught until I took real lessons in my 20s. Having kids and starting family after I moved away from my parents home I never played much again, now I'm wonting to get my young son into Music to help him with his Autism and to show him that sounds can be fun as he doesn't like noise at all.

You make it look so easy, but it is a game changer for me to use lead sheets and learn these chords. They are already starting to resonate and become easier to play after only a few months of studying the scales and their chords. Thanks for including the lead sheets for this music. You can't know how nice it is to find it as you have shown it without any expectation.
I love this song and you really bring it to life and show me how I can too. You really explain how to use the chords very well. I love that I can play it the way I hear it, and I don't have to try to find a score that is written as Elton John recorded it. My ear can hear the differences and I love to have the original, and now I can recreate it myself. That is as good as it can get. thanks so much. I have plans to buy all your books in the fall. And I can't wait.

I don't have my keyboard yet, so i'm just watching a whole bunch of your videos while I wait. It makes me regret taking my music class for granted and never really paying attention to how to read music seeing as I only recently got interested in this. Now I've completely forgotten even just the basics like eighth notes, half notes, rests, etc. I definitely won't be able to play this song for a while as I need to completely start over but I'll definitely come back to it once I'm ready. : )

thank you so much for making a childhood dream come true. . As a result of a money shortage my family could not pay for my lessons and definately not afford and form of a piano. Did so many piano and keyboard types exsist in the SEVENTIES. Now i am disabled and i thank Pianote for this possibility. It was Richard Claydeman that motivated me, the dream started when i heard a student playing Ballad for Adelein. Got my adjustable Piano Chair yesterday. I can really recommend one for height and comfort. Thk U Pianote

You always choose the good songs, they sound beautiful. I think its harder to make "chording it" sound nice like you do. In your tutorials can you slow it down a lot when you show us how to comp the songs? or better yet just do seperate comping vids. It is so hard to find teachers who teach this art in a way you can follow. I think tons of people want to sing all these songs, especially Elton's songs

I used to try to play accompaniment to this song exactly like the record - until I learned it's well known that Elton never plays any song exactly the same way twice. He kind of freely improvises based around the original chord shapes. Feels so much more natural and easier.
