I can't help but notice the similarities between riders and drivers in terms of their nature, most riders that I've come across are the nicest people I have met and they clearly love their horse! Even I as someone who hasn't ridden a horse since secondary school can tell a healthy beast from one in pain! But sadly you do get arsehole riders just as you get arsehole drivers...
Who cares if she put the bridle on before the saddle? There is no rule saying you MUST put the bridle on before the saddle. As long as you put them on correctly it doesn't matter what order they go on it makes no difference. Some people are just so picky and fussy these days it's ridiculous.
You SHOULD put the bridle on first because then if the pony/horse decides to run off you have complete control over them ☺️ also if you have a martingale it does up round the girth so you have to put on the bright first ☺️
Emma Cloudfall yes, that is a good point but if the horse runs away when your putting the saddle on the bridle will be on which could lead to the horse getting caught in the reins which can result to injuries but if you put the saddle on first you can hold the horse as soon as you've put the bridle on, but true about the martingale :) i'm not hating on you btw x

Emily Dawkins I've never ridden an ottb but I fully understand, my horse does that because she doesn't like pressure pressure from the nose band even when the reins are slacked. She's just a weird horse 😂
slack reins doesn't mean that you have soft hands. soft Hands are coming, when your complete body is soft and is going with the movements of the horse. loose or slack reins are more irritating for the horse because the always move the bit the way you don't want to. And for me she looks stif witch means she can't have as soft hands as possible but that is my opinion, because she is blocking the natural movements of the horse. (if my english is not correct i am sorry, i'm still learning)
I feel the need to comment here, Gina does amazing job with Twister. We go to the same yard, twister is a lovely horse & suffers from no pain with his head. There's nothing wrong with putting the bridle on before the saddle, it gives you more control. If the horse was to walk off when your putting the saddle on what control do you have? So for those of you commenting hate towards Gina about Twister I suggest you stop because you know nothing about the horse or what he works best with. itsellielouise omg if sorry I’ve just watched this now and seen this comment. If people are commenting about the fact she’s putting on the bridle first then they need educating! You always put a bridle on first! Especially when you have a martingale on. Safety reasons and logical reasons.
I've never or a bridle on first once in my life and hav been riding over 35 years. Am not commenting one way or the other am just saying. Reins aren't long enough to hold a horse without banging his mouth while tacking. I usually stand my horses in their stalls, boot them, saddle them with a loose girth, get my helmet on and crop, my spurs on so the horse can have a drink and pee and let the saddle settle. Then I tighten it up a little, bridle the horse, walk the horse out to the mounting block, tighten the girth up to one hole less I want it to be at for work ON THE BACK BILLET ONLY/ so exactly how it needs be on the front billet and one down on the back billet. Walk on a loose rein a few minutes and then adjust my goth up that final hole while walking. Go to a long rein trot for 10 minutes or so. Walk on a loose rein. Trot on loose rein and then start putting my horse together from my leg as he picks up the bit. Then do the workout, finish on a loose rein trot for 6-7 minutes. Walk on loose rein 10 minutes. Get off, take the reins over the head, run my stirrups, drop my back billet all the way out of the girth and take the front one down to half and hand walk my horse a couple minutes. Back to the barn and into the stall, remove the bridle. Take it to the cleaning hook. Take off helmet. Return and take the girth off the saddle from the off side. Put it over the saddle and remove the saddle from the mounting side and then cross tie my horse to brush or throw a scrim on or whatever. Every horse needs something a little different. I have one that has to pee before he works or shows so I factor in 10 minutes for that! He will only pee when full tacked and ready to walk out! Just get a safe rhythm. I depose cross ties in busy barns. Too much weirdness can happen. I prefer keeping the horse in a stall for tacking and I tacking and would never bridle first. No reins are long enough not to pull on a horse's mouth when adjusting the saddle.
Mary WinterWay I put the bridle on last Incase the horse bolts. Can’t let her get stuck with a bridle on, it could damage her mouth/ cut her. However, this is my horse and I like to do what’s best for her. People can do whatever they want with tack if it’s logical and safe 😁
Reading these comments, tsk tsk. Why are people saying she's no jockey? What happened to equestrian ? It seems she's riding a test. I think she did very well. Adding ur opinion of training suggestions isn't helpful. If u want that make ur own video
his canter looks so lovely!! my GCSE footage didn't have to include the prep before riding though so I was lucky enough to save time on that aha. great team though!! hes looks like such a lovely, well mannered horse and I love the look of all his paces!!X
I seen your comment about how your horse does not throw his head due to pain. Finally somebody understands. Seriously, my ottb and yours would be identical as far as racing habits go. I just wish people wouldn't judge or assume so quickly.
All of you have to drop your reins and trust the horse. That's he only way to stop that. Then you'll have a horse that reaches for contact. But you have to let go and ride on the buckle. Every truly great dressage rider or show jumper does this. My trainer Joe Fargos rides on a loose rein most of the time in practice. I mean to the buckle. Then you have a nice horse that listens to your leg and seat and no need to reins except to modify the direction of travel. Then slowly slowly half inches st a time at the trot pick up your reins over 5-6 minutes of trotting. Shorten your reins more than you think you should/ ride thumbs up in front of the withers. Let the horse come to you. Read Steinkraus and watch videos of people like Buck Brannaman who is a western rider but one of the best equitation riders alive. Long rein work is essential to any horse but crucial to an OTTB. Its that simple. Let them have all the rein and learn to go like that walk and trot. You are all gold riders am sur sand in emergency you can pick up your reins real quick if you need them- but don't pick them up just because you feel uncomfortable. Learn to balance the horse and their speed with your leg. Then the reins become subtle aid and the horse will really listen. Never ever traction back on the reins. Close your fingers to ask for a half halt. It will take a half inch or of the rein. Just cost up for a half halt, not pull back. OTTB horses are tricky. Best horses really but they all throw their heads. The ones that no longer do wer ridden in a loose rein somewhere along the line. Good luck ladies. Thanks for saving racehorses.

When i was at College they had a horse called Smiler (TB Gelding) and he would grab your coat sleeve and throw his head up and down just like this beautiful beast, Racing gives them all sorts of bad habits, and can take years to train out (if ever!) So great job, for a hot blooded he sure is well behaved! Well done xxx
I know this video was put up awhile ago but I'm seeing comments that say "she has a bad position" or "she's a bad rider" if Gina was a bad rider her hands would be moving a lot, she would be slouched over, her heels would not be down (her toes would be) and lastly she would be off the horse and on the ground because she has a brilliant seat in her canter and an excellent jumping position so no she is not a bad rider, I'm 14 and a rider so I would know what a bad rider looks like and she is definitely not a bad rider:) X

I really like how this video was executed. Amazing seat, the throwing of his head is just a bad habit. To help fix try a "check and release" and not pulling on the outside rein. But amazing video!
I don’t mean for this comment to affend anyone but as a fellow equestrian I must say something, the horse in this video is not throwing his head up in pain as many of you are suggesting that’s what happens to loads of race horses when they have retired but also your feet need to be in line with your knees and shoulders instead of your bum and your heels need to be down and also you knees to keep your hands up and off the saddle
Some people have to put the bridle on before the saddle because they have a martingale (like me) I'm just putting that out there as many people have commented about it, not as many people might do it but it is still fine.
He is so HANDSOME, is it weird but i always put the saddle further up towards the neck and slide it down so none of the fir of the horse gets caught up and un even! Haha x
I have a x racer, he did what yours does and put his tough over the bit because the bit was hurting, I have put him in a cross under bitless bridle and he is as docile as can be, try it and see what happens, I am not trying to force you but just giving my knowage as I am roughly the same age as you and levles but yes tong over the bit is becaus the bit is hitting the roof of the mouth and hurting and he puts the young in the way to stop the roof hurting but his tong will get the pain, my mum did a vets essay on it( she is a equine vet) and we put my x racer bitless and it was a instant result, you could try a cross under or a sidepull of a hackamore, what ever suets you best, again I am not trying to force you but just give knowage advice xxxx
i made the experience, that many Jumping horses are better rideable with a hackamore, than with a bit. Of course i can only speak for myself and for jumping-trainend horses. excuse the english ^^
Exactly the same here, my boy was only in a happy mouth snaffle and his head was everywhere he head butted me once whilst I was doing 2 point over poles it was that bad. Is so much better now in a cross under due to it putting pressure on the head instead of the mouth, because if this all 3 of my horses are in it now. Absolutely love the bridle!!! U did very well riding him though I know how hard it can be lol cx
gina has said that they have checked him and he is not in pain, they have tried many different bits and he seems a strong horse and a difficult one, it’s just a habit. bits are not abuse unless they are used in an abusive way.
Ever notice how when she is riding her horse’s color looks magnificent. It goes from a light to a fast switch to dark. It’s so pretty. Plus awesome riding. And a very well trained horse don’t listen to all those hate comments
your horse doesnt throw his head in pain but it might be an idea to un - fix your hands when your riding in canter because to me your hands looked like they were fixed and a horses head kind of rocks back and forth in canter so if they're fixed the horse may get frustrated and slow down. you and your horse do look amazing tho and thnx cos this video really helped! :)
Thoroughbred are not used to having a constant contact on the bit as when they race the are just let go and when they have that contact they throw their head to get away from it because they are not used to it so everyone who says the horse is in pain go to a racing yard and get on a raver and try and ride it like a dressage hkrse and see how far you get with that 👍👍
Steven Wilson i have a jockey license, and when galloping a horse, a firm contact is ALWAYS used. You mustn’t throw away the reins while galloping, as it is unbalancing for both horse and rider. Please do not guess as you can give people incorrect information.
Exactly! The horse fights against the reins, causing it to go faster. That is why at the end of the race, they do throw away the reins so the horse slows down.

this isnt meant rudely but im suprised they passed you based on the fact that you kept the knot in the lead rope while the healcollar was around your horses neck.. that is so dangerous :(
I actually find that extremely rude as a matter of fact. If you really happened to know about how a horse should be tied, this is called a 'quick release knot' which basically means if my horse were to spook or shy away from something whilst tied up, the knot would automatically come undone. Therefore, it isn't dangerous - hence why they exam lads didn't fail me for it.

+Jasmin Cox i know what a quick release knot is! i use them but what im saying is what ive read & been taught that when the headcollar is around the horses neck the knot is taken out & the head rope left in the string attached to the metal ring because if the horse yanks the neck it could seriously damage the neck whether the horse breaks free or not due to the muscles in the neck being so sensitive. thats how i do it at work and at when looking after horses at college & how to pass my british horse society stage 1 exam thats all :(
i hate to criticize but apart from putting the bridle on before the saddle (nobody does that), you don't have contact with his mouth at the trot, the reins are loose, plus you should keep your hands still and with your thumbs upwards, as my instructor says, you're hanging cloths to dry I just wanna help you correct these little mistakes, I don't wanna sound bossy or anything 🙈
Hi. Your riding is great and you are quiet enough to handle an OTTB. My old boy used to be exactly the same he would throw his head up so high i though he was going to head butt me. What i found worked was stopping the jumping for about a month and worked on the flatwork. did some lateral work with him and suppled him up and got him working from behind more. This brought his head down into an outline and stopped him throwing his head and putting his tongue over the bit. I then introduced poles and jumps again slowly incorporating lateral work to keep the balance and head carriage. It might work with your boy.
I think your a really good rider, ignore the people saying stuff, they probably don't know what they are talking about, your the one that knows gcse horse riding and they are just being petty. Your horse is gorgeous btw!
I think you are doing a great job..he's obviously not an easy ride, yet you are very quiet and gentle with your hands and don't react when he throws his head. You gave this sweet horse another chance in life and you are also dealing with some silly comments in a very mature way. I don't usually comment on any videos, but you're doing very well with him!!
My college was so strict i would not have passed with this (no offense they were obsessive😂) headcollar cannot be around the neck while the rope is tied up, cannot attach the martingale to the saddle until girth is done up, never mount from the ground, when doing sitting work no holding with your knees (thats why you are bouncing up more in canter) legs have to be long etc😂 also my exracer also does the head shaking he maybe silly without the martingale but when jumping you should try without it (even if at first they are silly) you can see from the video he likes to have a look at the jump and find his own stride and the martingale is restricting him thats why he is throwing his head up more and this can get you both hurt (trust me wrong strides can kill). His head will still go up without it but not so far and he wont tug so much after the jump :)

Lucy Robinson the horse is just scared of her. The bit scares the horse to where he is just petrified it may not look like it but as you look at the mouth and the tail and how the horse is walking and no horses get a throwing the head up from racing. I have had several horses grow up doing this and I ride bitless with the most softest hands I have. You can clearly tell the horse is in pain from the bit and she actually has really hard hands like when she slowed him down you could see his mouth open and pure refusal. This poor horse why don't you or anybody get it
Ahhh the equestrian community. Im loving all the " the horse is in pain from the bit" comments, when he was totally chill when she put the bridle on and for the majority of this video she has very light contact on his mouth ( which is lovely to see). The horse is acting like an ex racer- because he is one. They tend to throw their heads up and try and fight to get control because they kinda just want to gallop every where. Please if anyone thinks this horse is in pain, watch a video of any race horse literally just walking around and you'll see they head bob in the exact same way. Lovely riding, you have beautifully quiet feet and you control him brilliantly. Im sure if I or anyone else got on him we wouldnt be half as good at keeping him steady as you are. :)

That horse looks ever so unhappy in his mouth, sorry I bet you've been told that a thousand times already. You're a lovely quiet rider but the way the horse is overreacting makes you look heavy handed when you aren't really. I know it's an old vid now but I hope he/she has had their teeth sorted cos the poor fella is almost certainly in pain.
Sarah Hinz I own two ex racers and both get teeth check every 6 months and done if needed and they both still fling their heads, tbs are a flighty breed and get excited easily especially jumping, racers are not taught to be ridden with an awful lot of contact because when they are in training for racing they are wanting the horse to go as fast as possible and don't have any reason to have contact :) just because they do it does not mean they have any problem whether it be teeth or needing the physio :) Hope this cleared things up :)
Steven Wilson I've owned ex racers all my life and although they are all excitable and high strung, they do not carry their head that high up, that is not a natural head carriage, and actually takes more effort to carry their head like this, this horse is most likely in pain hence why it's head is so high up and not to mention constantly bobbing his head up and down.
I'm not being funny but how was this difficult I can do everything and I'am capable of jumping some of the jumps at the end and I'm 12 and I don't even have my own horse or even one on loan. I thought that it would be a lot harder than this no offence.
Offence taken. No where was this stated to be "hard" or challenging. I simply followed the exam instructions. I didn't have a pony at your age either, I waited and saved and earned my own horse by myself, that was the hard bit.

Everyone is commenting saying how they've had an ex racer try this bit and that bit but I have one now and she doesn't throw her head but she won't lower it. Honestly all these people are talking shit. They don't know about racers and I guarantee you that 80% of these people haven't actually had a racer. There's nothing you can do to fix their head set its natural for them after racing so girl you keep riding like you do, don't change anything, and you'll do just fine x
I don't intend to be rude, just a bit curious. Why do you put on the briddle before the saddle? I learned that you put on the saddle first, while your horse is still secured, and then put on the briddle later when you have finished everything else...?

I've never or a bridle on first once in my life and hav been riding over 35 years. Am not commenting one way or the other am just saying. Reins aren't long enough to hold a horse without banging his mouth while tacking. I usually stand my horses in their stalls, boot them, saddle them with a loose girth, get my helmet on and crop, my spurs on so the horse can have a drink and pee and let the saddle settle. Then I tighten it up a little, bridle the horse, walk the horse out to the mounting block, tighten the girth up to one hole less I want it to be at for work ON THE BACK BILLET ONLY/ so exactly how it needs be on the front billet and one down on the back billet. Walk on a loose rein a few minutes and then adjust my goth up that final hole while walking. Go to a long rein trot for 10 minutes or so. Walk on a loose rein. Trot on loose rein and then start putting my horse together from my leg as he picks up the bit. Then do the workout, finish on a loose rein trot for 6-7 minutes. Walk on loose rein 10 minutes. Get off, take the reins over the head, run my stirrups, drop my back billet all the way out of the girth and take the front one down to half and hand walk my horse a couple minutes. Back to the barn and into the stall, remove the bridle. Take it to the cleaning hook. Take off helmet. Return and take the girth off the saddle from the off side. Put it over the saddle and remove the saddle from the mounting side and then cross tie my horse to brush or throw a scrim on or whatever. Every horse needs something a little different. I have one that has to pee before he works or shows so I factor in 10 minutes for that! He will only pee when full tacked and ready to walk out! Just get a safe rhythm. I depose cross ties in busy barns. Too much weirdness can happen. I prefer keeping the horse in a stall for tacking and I tacking and would never bridle first. No reins are long enough not to pull on a horse's mouth when adjusting the saddle.

Mary WinterWay I put the bridle on last Incase the horse bolts. Can’t let her get stuck with a bridle on, it could damage her mouth/ cut her. However, this is my horse and I like to do what’s best for her. People can do whatever they want with tack if it’s logical and safe 😁

My OTTB also throws his head
All of you have to drop your reins and trust the horse. That's he only way to stop that. Then you'll have a horse that reaches for contact. But you have to let go and ride on the buckle. Every truly great dressage rider or show jumper does this. My trainer Joe Fargos rides on a loose rein most of the time in practice. I mean to the buckle. Then you have a nice horse that listens to your leg and seat and no need to reins except to modify the direction of travel. Then slowly slowly half inches st a time at the trot pick up your reins over 5-6 minutes of trotting. Shorten your reins more than you think you should/ ride thumbs up in front of the withers. Let the horse come to you. Read Steinkraus and watch videos of people like Buck Brannaman who is a western rider but one of the best equitation riders alive. Long rein work is essential to any horse but crucial to an OTTB. Its that simple. Let them have all the rein and learn to go like that walk and trot. You are all gold riders am sur sand in emergency you can pick up your reins real quick if you need them- but don't pick them up just because you feel uncomfortable. Learn to balance the horse and their speed with your leg. Then the reins become subtle aid and the horse will really listen. Never ever traction back on the reins. Close your fingers to ask for a half halt. It will take a half inch or of the rein. Just cost up for a half halt, not pull back. OTTB horses are tricky. Best horses really but they all throw their heads. The ones that no longer do wer ridden in a loose rein somewhere along the line. Good luck ladies. Thanks for saving racehorses.

When i was at College they had a horse called Smiler (TB Gelding) and he would grab your coat sleeve and throw his head up and down just like this beautiful beast, Racing gives them all sorts of bad habits, and can take years to train out (if ever!) I know this video was put up awhile ago but I'm seeing comments that say "she has a bad position" or "she's a bad rider" if Gina was a bad rider her hands would be moving a lot, she would be slouched over, her heels would not be down (her toes would be) and lastly she would be off the horse and on the ground because she has a brilliant seat in her canter and an excellent jumping position so no she is not a bad rider, I'm 14 and a rider so I would know what a bad rider looks like and she is definitely not a bad rider:) X

I don’t mean for this comment to affend anyone but as a fellow equestrian I must say something, the horse in this video is not throwing his head up in pain as many of you are suggesting that’s what happens to loads of race horses when they have retired but also your feet need to be in line with your knees and shoulders instead of your bum and your heels need to be down and also you knees to keep your hands up and off the saddle
Some people have to put the bridle on before the saddle because they have a martingale (like me)
I'm just putting that out there as many people have commented about it, not as many people might do it but it is still fine.
He is so HANDSOME, is it weird but i always put the saddle further up towards the neck and slide it down so none of the fir of the horse gets caught up and un even! Haha x

I have a x racer, he did what yours does and put his tough over the bit because the bit was hurting, I have put him in a cross under bitless bridle and he is as docile as can be, try it and see what happens, I am not trying to force you but just giving my knowage as I am roughly the same age as you and levles but yes tong over the bit is becaus the bit is hitting the roof of the mouth and hurting and he puts the young in the way to stop the roof hurting but his tong will get the pain, my mum did a vets essay on it( she is a equine vet) and we put my x racer bitless and it was a instant result, you could try a cross under or a sidepull of a hackamore, what ever suets you best, again I am not trying to force you but just give knowage advice xxxx
i made the experience, that many Jumping horses are better rideable with a hackamore, than with a bit. Of course i can only speak for myself and for jumping-trainend horses. excuse the english ^^
Exactly the same here, my boy was only in a happy mouth snaffle and his head was everywhere he head butted me once whilst I was doing 2 point over poles it was that bad. Is so much better now in a cross under due to it putting pressure on the head instead of the mouth, because if this all 3 of my horses are in it now. Absolutely love the bridle!!! U did very well riding him though I know how hard it can be lol cx
gina has said that they have checked him and he is not in pain, they have tried many different bits and he seems a strong horse and a difficult one, it’s just a habit. bits are not abuse unless they are used in an abusive way.

your horse doesnt throw his head in pain but it might be an idea to un - fix your hands when your riding in canter because to me your hands looked like they were fixed and a horses head kind of rocks back and forth in canter so if they're fixed the horse may get frustrated and slow down. you and your horse do look amazing tho and thnx cos this video really helped! :)

Thoroughbred are not used to having a constant contact on the bit as when they race the are just let go and when they have that contact they throw their head to get away from it because they are not used to it so everyone who says the horse is in pain go to a racing yard and get on a raver and try and ride it like a dressage hkrse and see how far you get with that 👍👍
Steven Wilson i have a jockey license, and when galloping a horse, a firm contact is ALWAYS used. You mustn’t throw away the reins while galloping, as it is unbalancing for both horse and rider. Please do not guess as you can give people incorrect information.

this isnt meant rudely but im suprised they passed you based on the fact that you kept the knot in the lead rope while the healcollar was around your horses neck.. that is so dangerous :(
I actually find that extremely rude as a matter of fact. If you really happened to know about how a horse should be tied, this is called a 'quick release knot' which basically means if my horse were to spook or shy away from something whilst tied up, the knot would automatically come undone. Therefore, it isn't dangerous - hence why they exam lads didn't fail me for it.

+Jasmin Cox i know what a quick release knot is! i use them but what im saying is what ive read & been taught that when the headcollar is around the horses neck the knot is taken out & the head rope left in the string attached to the metal ring because if the horse yanks the neck it could seriously damage the neck whether the horse breaks free or not due to the muscles in the neck being so sensitive. thats how i do it at work and at when looking after horses at college & how to pass my british horse society stage 1 exam thats all :(

Hi. Your riding is great and you are quiet enough to handle an OTTB. My old boy used to be exactly the same he would throw his head up so high i though he was going to head butt me. What i found worked was stopping the jumping for about a month and worked on the flatwork. did some lateral work with him and suppled him up and got him working from behind more. This brought his head down into an outline and stopped him throwing his head and putting his tongue over the bit. I then introduced poles and jumps again slowly incorporating lateral work to keep the balance and head carriage. It might work with your boy.
Been smashed in the teeth plenty of times! Had braces on to correct my teeth!
not hate just a tip i do the same thing but if you relax your leg more without stirrups you get a better seat welldone tho xx

I think you are doing a great job..he's obviously not an easy ride, yet you are very quiet and gentle with your hands and don't react when he throws his head. You gave this sweet horse another chance in life and you are also dealing with some silly comments in a very mature way. I don't usually comment on any videos, but you're doing very well with him!!

My college was so strict i would not have passed with this (no offense they were obsessive😂) headcollar cannot be around the neck while the rope is tied up, cannot attach the martingale to the saddle until girth is done up, never mount from the ground, when doing sitting work no holding with your knees (thats why you are bouncing up more in canter) legs have to be long etc😂 also my exracer also does the head shaking he maybe silly without the martingale but when jumping you should try without it (even if at first they are silly) you can see from the video he likes to have a look at the jump and find his own stride and the martingale is restricting him thats why he is throwing his head up more and this can get you both hurt (trust me wrong strides can kill). His head will still go up without it but not so far and he wont tug so much after the jump :)

Lucy Robinson the horse is just scared of her. The bit scares the horse to where he is just petrified it may not look like it but as you look at the mouth and the tail and how the horse is walking and no horses get a throwing the head up from racing. I have had several horses grow up doing this and I ride bitless with the most softest hands I have. You can clearly tell the horse is in pain from the bit and she actually has really hard hands like when she slowed him down you could see his mouth open and pure refusal. This poor horse why don't you or anybody get it

Ahhh the equestrian community. Im loving all the " the horse is in pain from the bit" comments, when he was totally chill when she put the bridle on and for the majority of this video she has very light contact on his mouth ( which is lovely to see). The horse is acting like an ex racer- because he is one. They tend to throw their heads up and try and fight to get control because they kinda just want to gallop every where. Please if anyone thinks this horse is in pain, watch a video of any race horse literally just walking around and you'll see they head bob in the exact same way.
Lovely riding, you have beautifully quiet feet and you control him brilliantly. Im sure if I or anyone else got on him we wouldnt be half as good at keeping him steady as you are. :)

That horse looks ever so unhappy in his mouth, sorry I bet you've been told that a thousand times already. You're a lovely quiet rider but the way the horse is overreacting makes you look heavy handed when you aren't really. I know it's an old vid now but I hope he/she has had their teeth sorted cos the poor fella is almost certainly in pain.
Sarah Hinz I own two ex racers and both get teeth check every 6 months and done if needed and they both still fling their heads, tbs are a flighty breed and get excited easily especially jumping, racers are not taught to be ridden with an awful lot of contact because when they are in training for racing they are wanting the horse to go as fast as possible and don't have any reason to have contact :) just because they do it does not mean they have any problem whether it be teeth or needing the physio :) Hope this cleared things up :)
Steven Wilson I've owned ex racers all my life and although they are all excitable and high strung, they do not carry their head that high up, that is not a natural head carriage, and actually takes more effort to carry their head like this, this horse is most likely in pain hence why it's head is so high up and not to mention constantly bobbing his head up and down.

I'm not being funny but how was this difficult I can do everything and I'am capable of jumping some of the jumps at the end and I'm 12 and I don't even have my own horse or even one on loan. I thought that it would be a lot harder than this no offence.
Offence taken. No where was this stated to be "hard" or challenging. I simply followed the exam instructions. I didn't have a pony at your age either, I waited and saved and earned my own horse by myself, that was the hard bit.

Everyone is commenting saying how they've had an ex racer try this bit and that bit but I have one now and she doesn't throw her head but she won't lower it. Honestly all these people are talking shit. They don't know about racers and I guarantee you that 80% of these people haven't actually had a racer. There's nothing you can do to fix their head set its natural for them after racing so girl you keep riding like you do, don't change anything, and you'll do just fine x
