The Base Mesh 2.0 - Get 1,100+ 3D Models... FREE!

Today we revisit the excellent online resource TheBaseMesh, who have just released The Base Mesh 2.0. TBM is a MASSIVE archive of CC0 3D models suitable for game use, sculpting and more, with clean topology and UV Maps. Each model is now available in FBX, OBJ and GLB format and the new 2.0 release of the site has an improved viewer, more detailed information on each model, better filtering and more.

If computers like triangles, why are meshes often quads?

Because quads are easy to UV unwrap and then texture. After that quads will be easily triangulated (idk if that’s the correct way to say) in game engines so that lods will work efficently

It's more friendly to subdivision/decimation. That would also apply to shader-based tessellation and like.

Anything built with quads is easy to triangulate. You just divide each quad in half.
There are several reasons quads are preferred. There are benefits for texture unwrapping as has been mentioned and even for rendering since in the end everything is rendered out to pixels (little squares). It turns out it's more efficient to render rectangles into multiple little squares than it is to render triangles into multiple little squares.
