I have looked at many container cranes but this is the best by far. The spreader is absolutely incredible. I wish this could be bought in a kit. I would like to think that if one of the many companies that produce models made this into a kit they would sell out fast.
Thank you so much for sharing. This new Spreader is simple FANTASTIC ! ! !. Your project is a great inspiration for me. I hope in the near future can do something similar; the only problem for me is mine has to be in N scale ! and this is gonna be a HUGE CHALLENGE !, but I'll do my best or at least, I´ll try . . . Congrats, and cheers from Chile, South America, John.
Incredible! Can you make a video about how it works? How does the whole crane move, is the motor inside the crane or under the table? How big are the motors, did you gear them down? What model of the motor is this?
Hi! Only the motor for moving the Crane is under table. It is a motor from an old VHS recorder. The others are: moving, lifting grabbing, and lifting the beam. These are micro DC motors with gear. From China.
@@lboekhoven2613 I will be using DCC to make mine move as that allows for accessories like lights and most importantly, the electromagnet to grab the containers.
@@Night-zn4ew Grabbing containers with elektromagnets is not easy. I grab the container with a force on the front and rear side of the container. I like the idea that the grabber is telescopic and it is as long as the container you will grab.
Hi Jammy, just small micromotors, no PCBs. The ROCO1805 is not on the market anymore. But my next model will be 3d printed and mayby designed for production.
I am motorising a Kibri container crane at the moment, I'm currently designing a new spreader for it, what would be best for the motor to grab the container? I'm not sure what would be best? Congratulations on your design of spreader, it has given me confidence on a future design
Thank you for your reply. I was not sure about using a micro motor as I did not think it would hold the container. I will have a go at my design and see how it goes. I will certainly plan to produce and build a spreader like yours, once I have learnt 3D design
Where would a good source be to find out size and dimension of the spreader? I have made a first draft of a spreader on the 3D printer but I’m not sure it is correct size. I have googled for images and I think I found dimensions in metres? Kind regards Iain
Start with the dimensions of the containers: If you want to pick up 20ft containers, and 40 ft containers, the spreader "lenght"should be about 6 cm, the telescope length is about 3 cm on each side.

I am sorry, this is not working. You need to search for the settings, and change the drawings to make it slide perfectly. The geared motor is not powerfull. So please try to draw it yourself.

I love the way you have made this and I would like your input on how one can be made for O Scale containers .
Hi, I 'm not used to this scale, but I think the system will work, also in this scale, if the containers are not to heavy.

Can you purchase this crane and where?
Wow how You made it move, would you like to do the same and where did you get such a crane or did it yourself
Nice job!👍👍👍

How did you make it move without PCBs, surely you need them to control the micromotors.

scratch building from ROCO 1805. Motorised with micromotors. Spreader designed, engineered, and 3d printed by myself.
