- The Samaritans are one of the most ancient tribes in the world - they’ve been around for over 3,000 years. But the population is now fragile and the tribe at risk of finally dying out...
Their population consists of just four extended families, around only 800 people in total (in Roman times there used to be over a million). They have three men to every one woman. To keep the tribe going they’ve tried bringing in women from afar, including a number from the Ukraine. But is it too little, too late?

There is a famous television Israeli television personality called Sofi Tsedaka, and I remember hearing several years ago that she had converted to Judaism from Samaritan. I really wonder the reason there are three men for every one woman. In other countries that have this problem, it is because female fetuses were aborted due to the preference for male children. I cannot imagine this could happen in such a highly religious community. In nature, female fetuses and babies are stronger, so this imbalance is very unnatural. Maybe its because they are casting a wide genetic net or perhaps there is some stigma(religious?) To women in the region
Eastern European women are more willing (i.e. easy). Women nearby - be it Arab, Persian, Turk, Afghan, etc - are more strict on who they'd marry and how they'd raise their children with regards to culture, politics, ethnicity, and religion. Even if they're willing, they'd still face social stigma.
They are suffering from inbreeding over generations and need DNA that is as different from theirs as possible to increase genetic diversity. The more genetically different the mother and the father is; the more healthier is the baby.
It is much easier to convert women who are less connected to any religion, we as samaritans dont trust marrying jewish or muslim women, not that we havent, but in the rare occasions that it has happened its usually ended in catastrophe so we tend to stay away.

The result was that the closest populations were dominantly Samaritans, and also Druze and two clans of Bedouin, genetic distance was tiny. And a very rare recessive genetic condition common to these groups especially to Druze, that I had no idea I was a carrier for. No Russian or Ukrainian, though I'd be proud of that too if I had. And I'm a woman, so no y chromosome, which is even more similar to Samaritans- this is just autosomal.
