    900Wh battery, 22.8 KG, impressive! Go for the 720Wh battery and its 21.9KG! What you folks think of this new Spectral?

      My future sees bikes with half sized main batteries for regular rides with your non-ebiking mates, or days at the bikepark, and a bigger than current extender for those long days out exploring. Don't see the point of lugging 2kg of extra battery around if you're not going to use it. Something like 500Wh main + a 375Wh extender.

    Hey Rob Rides Emtb! I wonder if an ebike manufacturer will cross the line of too light a frame soon and have to do a recall because of too many frame failures? This time Canyon saved most of the weight in other components but once those savings are used up the frames will get lighter and weaker! Hope you and family are well Rob! Ride ride ride!

    Dear Rob,
    Thank you very much for the great review. Just a few ideas from my side:
    - probably the e-bike with the most e-Integration will be the greip with Its online cameras and online tracking
    - I hope there will be a discussion soon, why e-shifting and e-Suspension in a mountainbike makes sence with the nearly incredible price tag.
    My 3 year old YT Deco, for example, would probably lose only some minutes during a whole day of riding given the same rider.
    Best regards
    Christian

    Would have thought Flight Attendant would have been a bit of a waste on an Ebike🤔 It’s there to make stiffen the suspension for greater efficiency on the climbs, not as important when you have a motor assisting you. I suppose if you have the money to blow, go right ahead.
    I’d prefer a lighter fork and shock, without the electronics. Great weight for that battery size though 👍🏼

    for it to be that 'light' its gonna be compromised on frame lay up. less carbon means less integrity of high stress areas. expect to see broken head tubes, bottom bracket mounts, suspension pivot areas. i dont buy their marketing blurb. from an engineering perspective its gonna be less materials to make frame lighter.

    I got to rally about on last year’s Spectral:ON CFR9 for a week and I really liked it. The mullet configuration made it feel more flickable than the Rocky PowerPlay I tested around the same time. Overall I liked the geo and the decent battery size - which was bigger than the longer-travel Torque, oddly enough. But this 900Wh model seems to be a big improvement especially given the longer reach on the biggest frame size. (I ride XL frames.) I am however a little anxious about the yoke-driven shock which can be a recipe for high maintenance costs. I also remain skeptical of the usefulness of Flight Attendant, ESPECIALLY for ebikes. And that cable routing through the headset looks like another maintenance issue. I suppose it’s pennies cheaper to run the cables this way vs setting up the carbon mold to accommodate routing that way. Silly, for sure. (Looking at you too, Transition Bike Co, and the new Repeater with its goofy headset.)

    My Large Turbo Levo Comp 2020 with an Alloy frame and a 700 watt battery is the same weight. The Carbon framed version is lighter. The Levo battery weighs 3.8kgs at 700 watts, the 900 watt battery shown here is 4.8kgs, so no real advancement. I suspect we will see a real revolution when the 4680 batteries hit the market.

    I like this approach of mounting the battery. Specialised, Norco and I think also other manufacturers use it to save weight. Don't know about the really wide downtube and the 900Wh battery. Since I rode the Orbea Rise I'm sold on light weight E-MTBs with decent motor power. Maybe a 500Wh battery nicely integrated with an optional rage extender would have suited the Spectral On better?

    The bike industry is going mental. You can buy a road going Ducati for a couple of quid more. Engine, gear box, clutch, lights....If Canyon et al don't wake up then they'll soon find the motorbike manufacturers poking their nose into bikes and some of those guys know what they are doing. KTM, Husqvarna already involved but only farting about.
    Motorbike margins must be a lot smaller than eMTB's.

    Before buying a bike from an online brand I would think 100 times, every little problem gets bigger, more expensive and takes longer to resolve. Personal experience. And I add, as other users have already mentioned, as soon as you can have it checked by a good mechanic, it happens that where you need grease, they don't put it there with the risk of ruining some (expensive) components.

    Rob looking at getting the canyon but I’ve read few comments now about the battery connection coming off mid ride and shuts bike off plus catching on pedal arm and breaking off have u heard anything

    Very interesting concept. Live close to the Canyon Showroom in Carlsbad and will see if they have a demo model onhand. Been looking for an ebike with extended range for long trail style rides in the saddle to compliment my YT Decoy Elite and Yeti 160e. Think we'll see a continued trend from various manufacturers with bigger batteries while maintaining a respectful weight. Seems like the higher end models are spec'ed pretty nice. Too bad Canyon decided their current policy of only offering limited models in the US.

      Carlsbad Canyon has a CF8 headed my way, I ordered it on Sunday, they immediately shipped it out Monday AM.
      Same as they did with my Endurace Ultegra Di2 roadbike...........which I really,really like.

    The added tech is useless and expensive when it goes wrong, the battery on the large side for what I would need. My 630 does me fine, maybe 750 at a push, but I would not want a 900. The Bosch motor seems more powerful than the shimano. So it’s a no from me.

    Rob, do you like every bike you are given to review? I like this channel but every review is all so positive. They can’t all be good. Try growing a pair and say how you really feel, being tied to sponsors etc can get boring after a while.

    • @RobRidesEMTB
      @RobRidesEMTB  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you actually watched anything recently? This is simply not true. Watch my last review video on the Kellys Theos then tell me if I still need to ‘grow a pair’. I’ll see what you come back with.

    • @robertwright6760
      @robertwright6760 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RobRidesEMTB I just watched the Kelly Theo’s review, wow, what a production, looked great, you really gave the bike a proper work out in some gnarly terrain and fair enough, an unbiased review. However, you have nothing to lose if you want to point out negatives on a relatively unknown brand. You aren’t going to upset a big proportion of your subscribers or a good long term sponsor. Now, say you found a load of issues with the next gen Specialised Kenevo or Levo? Are you going to put it through its paces and say exactly how you feel even if you are not happy. When you know you could upset a big sponsor and equally a huge number of specialised owners that subscribe to your channel? Show me a big brand that you have made true negative comments or overall assessment of and I’ll rest my case.

      Go watch the Giant Reign video, the one review before the Kellys. I mention the BB is too low, it’s too slack and poor stock tyre choice. Hopefully that’s enough to curb your cynicism?! 👊

    Looks like an amazing bike, but is it just me or is that seat tube pushed really far forward? Alas, being the runt of the e-bike world, the CFR is not available in the US.
