This movie is incredible! It's criminal how poorly it did at the box office while other mediocre "superhero" movies pull in half a billion.
This movie will become a cult classic that 20 years later will get a sequel or a prequel and everyone will praise how great it is.
It’s not criminal for people to prefer superhero movies. Learn to enjoy things in the entertainment space without hating on other people’s preferences you loser 😂
Those movies bring a much larger audience cause they’re made for children and adults whereas, I don’t think anyone’s gonna want to bring their kid to see this movie

DOD you eat shrooms prior? I did and actually had my friends watch me and I brought a bag to puke in. After I threw up a few times I settled in and watched the whole thing and it was unreal. I just wasn't used to shrooms yet and my friend's prepared me for it and after I threw up it was amazing
Oh yeah and the best part is after I threw up my friends girl brought me food and drinks and I swear I was literally ultra focused and I she even got the bag of throw up and threw it away so I wouldn't get thrown out. Keep your friends very close bro

I have a hard time imagining that a town that devoted that many resources on fortification would have the least capable people defending the walls.
Construction and fighting are two VERY different skill sets.
I think the issue is more the fight choreography. When i first watched it i loved the movie but some of the fights just feel overly setup than they should be. block guards attack guard just drops shield and weapon like durrrr
@@plutonium_niborg2460 yeah.I could buy that people get over the walls since it would take time for men to arm and armor themselves up, but the fighting itself looks very... step by stepish? Like they learned to do it by stages and pause before each stage
It is possible they devoted that amount of resources to fortifications BECAUSE they don't have many capable people to man the walls. Plus, you cannot have your capable people on duty 24/7. Theoretically, those raiders should NOT have gotten within spear range of the fort without raising the alarm. However, unless they had some idea an attack was coming, guards tend to get complacent from hours/days/weeks of NOTHING happening.
thats why they built walls. they couldnt fight for $hi+.
With the way the battle commenced and how the Berserkers climbed the walls with their bare hands and axes, the way the whole sequence was brutal and unapologetic, this could have been the Battle of Venarium in Robert E. Howard's Hyborian lore. Which right there makes this a better Conan the Barbarian movie than any of the actual Konahn movies we've had so far.

He's just a guy trying to provide for himself and his fellow Vikings.
From the villagers perspective, though,
he's the villain.

I love how this fight scene is shot, it’s two long takes and they are both filmed with such passion and more.

The scene with the children afterward still haunts me. Had me questioning the purpose of humanity if we only grow up to become willing slaughterers of our own younger selves.
Humans have been violent since the beginning. Cain killed Abel, his own brother out of jealousy pretty quickly after their birth. War and death is a fact of life

Being a Viking was basically just having a job. The “Viking age” doesn’t make sense, it’s like if this time was called the lawyer period because some of us are lawyers

@@CamTheKid Northman is also inaccurate, because they never called themselves as such, the term Norseman came a few centuries after the viking age. What they did see themselves is differing tribes of danes, Geats, and swedes.

I did not know this movie was a comedy until I saw this scene. The howling at the end was the real give away.
The berserkers (which these pillaging guys seem to be) would work themselves into a frenzy and thought they could turn into bears and wolves. It is believed that they wold consume certain hallucinogenic mushrooms which could drive them into an altered state of mind. Generally, the berserkers were feared but not respected in Scandinavia.
@@Egill2011 there are roman reports from earlier times where germanic and/or celtic warriors entered battle naked, going so far as ripping spears out of their own chest to throw them back. whatever drugs they took before battle, it certainly worked
Tragedy and comedy are neighbors. Sometimes it helps your narrative if you blend the two. The howling is silly, but the audience should feel pity for the main character at this point. He's fallen in with a gang of beasts; he shouldn't be this person, and as menacing as he is to the villagers, to us he's a little pathetic. This is a boy who was destined for greater things, now twisted into something primal and ugly, worthy of our laughter in a way.
Again, armor and shields that do nothing. Sure wish that there were historical films of battles in the past so that we could see how it really was.
Well, against axes armor and shields would really do nothing in reality. An axe can easily splinter shields if struck with enough force and can break a bone even if it doesn't penetrate the armor.
That was about as realistic as an episode of Xena.
Not if you ask the Director. The only aspect unrealistic was their haircuts lol
@@boldroast1197 The consensus among historians around this film is that while it is very well made and researched as far as production (costumes, weapons, sets), the story and actions in it are more fantasy and conjecture/interpretation than realistic. The story itself is centered around myth, which Robert Eggers fully admits. We don't know as much about "Vikings" as the entertainment industry and the modern Viking wannabees would have us believe.

berserker frenzy, there are quite some historical accounts of it. maybe no howling in particular, but similar behaviour. probably some kind of drug involved.

How is it possible for life-long professional warriors to be that useless in a fight?
Why didn't the villagers just send their 4-year-old daughters out in that same armor? It's not as if their "fighting men" stood up to the raiders even 60 seconds longer than the little girls would have.
It's ridiculous. To me, not good movie making.
It's not that the "lifelong professional warriors" were that bad its that he was that damn good. You can't fight well against someone who's twice your size and breaks your sheild with one swing. Lucky they put up the fight they did. Best Viking movie ever made.
Their probably not “professional warriors” at most their a lightly equipped local garrison that’s meant to supervise the villages and its local areas. Their not used to fighting actual warriors and men at arms at most they probably dealt with local brigands and criminals not a highly trained fit fighting force + it was a surprise attack that broke past the palisade pretty fast not giving the men time to form a line or defense before they were overwhelmed. This is probably the most accurate depiction of a Viking raid using the element of surprise to attack and destroy an enemy instead of open battle where they would be at a disadvantage.
How’d you like to train to fight people like yourself, I.e physically capable men/women and have to fight 200+ pound guys with no self preservation and a helluva lot of drugs?
@@johnathonkelly5117 That's what the scene is intended to portray, but I agree with op; they end up making the village fighters look comically uncoordinated and took me out of suspended disbelief.
The action is super slow 🐌...is more focus on the muscle of the actor than the cuality of the acction itself..the Camara is ok and it seems 1 shot 👍 ...but boring as hell

The movie wasnt about the action, it was about the violence. This movie had lots of violence, but not action. That is what made it good. There are no winners in this story
