- Burundi Institution Abashingantahe - a multi-century-old traditional mechanism that promotes community and social cohesion, respect, conflict resolution, mutual help- carried out an induction ceremoney of new members in Washington D.C. "Being a Mushingantahe is not just a title but a lifelong commitment to social cohesion, justice, fairness, and the values that define our community", said Juvenal Nzambimana who led the induction ceremony.
The ceremony itself reflects the significance of the Umushingantahe status, with the newly inducted members taking an oath before God and the public, vowing to uphold integrity and strive justice without bias. "The year-long preparation has been a revealing journey into the core principles of the Institution, further inspiring my dedication to uphold integrity and the values of the institution to serve the community", stated Eric Manirakiza, one of the new inductees.
The Institution of Abashingantahe has played an important role in the history of Burundi as trusted advisors to the country leaders at all levels, impartial conflict resolution agents, and role models within communities. Membership to the institution relies on a rigorous vetting process and a thorough instruction to ascertain readiness for the role.
