    As a recent subscriber I have been "binge" watching all your previous videos and I have to say that your content and presentation have only improved with time, congratulations! I guess I'm a "mullet" type of person and I learned so much about bike type, style, and geometry from your "down to earth" style of presentation when it comes to "geek" stuff. Good to see Laura "on the road again" and on the recovery side of things. Keep up the good work!!

      I feel the difference between 27.5 and 26 is massively overstated. Many people cannot even tell the difference even visually.

    • @CPD0123a
      @CPD0123a 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Exgrmbl never rode 27.5, but I do have a 29-er "distance gravel" bike and my 26er "adventuring bike," and those definitely ride way differently. That said, the 26er definitely gets more use, since it's such a nice around town, day trip, and just general use bike. Those old Taiwan Mongoose bikes from the 90's are freaking great budget bikes if you put the love into them that they deserve!

    Still riding a hardtail Marin 26 incher from the mid 2000's. One of the best bikes (non road) I've ever owned and certainly far from the most expensive as I picked it up used. Still running the stock fork and drivetrain. Spending pretty much limited to tyres, grips, saddle and assorted non-essential and cosmetic accessories.
    Nothing wrong with 26" wheels at all.

    • @matthewizen
      @matthewizen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@petercroce Well, I mean to order the regular through my LBS but apparently all they had was the extra lights. They’re bafflingly quiet on the road. I don’t ride when it’s really we so I can’t give experience on that. They are definitely grippy on gravel and dry stuff. I live near a state park with an expansive network of trails and I’ve ridden basically everywhere on that back (greens to blacks) on my fully rigid early 90’s Univega mtb.
      My first tires from them were the Stampede Pass (back when they were still Compass). That’s when I fell in love. I upped my tires from 26 to 32, lowered the pressure. There’s a ride I love that’s about 90 miles and FULL of road chatter and potholes. I road it one day after I put the 32’s on, and I was shocked with how little fatigue I felt. I came home wanting to ride another 90 miles when I’d usually come home wanting to eat a giant burrito and pass out.
      That’s obviously just my personal experience, so take it with a giant grain of salt. More importantly, please let me know if you have any specific questions. I’m happy to answer.

    • @petercroce
      @petercroce 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matthewizen That's all amazing, thanks so much for sharing. I'm putting more money into my 1992 Specialized Hardrock and I have some old beat up Compass Rat Trap Pass extra lights on there. They're obviously super fast on the road, but I was considering replacing them with the Humptulips if they aren't too slow on the pavement. Do you ever ride your Humptulips on paved roads?

    • @matthewizen
      @matthewizen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@petercroce Yup. More than I thought I would, too. Not anything too long, but I was shocked at how quiet and smooth they rode. I was super skeptical of their claims but now I wouldn’t even thing twice of riding a long 50/50 dirt/pavement ride.

    • @matthewizen
      @matthewizen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Crochet back gloves are now impossible to find in retail shops here in Toronto, almost all are spandex backed fashion statements with next to no safety or padding to them. For a decade, I rode nothing but 700x23 road tires. Then I bought a Surly Midnight Special and Big Easy, which have 650B and 26” tires. Now that my eyes have been opened, I could never go back to skinny, low volume tires. I haven’t had a flat in either of them also, because they are much less likely to get pinch flats and are so tolerant of under inflation, which makes them even more supple.
