I get worn out practicing vocals in my room... God knows how much talent this guy has! Another great performance btw, Swan and his boys never disappoint :D
Why doesn't Donovan play the real drum beat during the part that goes "Oh there's a tear in the fabric of our soul"? Don't get me wrong I could never drum and sing at the same time like he does, but that beat is what I love most about this song. And you'll notice that during that part he doesn't hit the snare at all, just the hi hat and bass drum.
As far as Donovan doing both: I don't think that, for any reason, he should stop. although at some point he may lose tone, or simplify a fill, it's an amazing sight, and ultra inspiring. I wouldn't change that for a damn thing
They really just need to find a drummer... He's obviously a great drummer, but all he's doing is doubling his fatigue. Drumming is a very physically taxing activity, and so is singing.
Don is a far better drummer than he is a singer, I would like to see them get an amazing vocalist. Their live performances would benefit massively in my opinion. With him doing vocals like Aaron Gillespie, as opposed to full time vocals, allowing them to really showcase their talent during live performances.
+woodroow I think Donovan might have a bit of an ego and won't allow that to happen. The drummer/singer status serves a bit as a functional gimmick I think, as well as granting him greater control of things. I'm just drawing this from my few interactions with him and promotional tactics, so take it with a grain of salt.
He fits both roles perfectly. I'd never want him to stop doing either, but if I had to choose he'd be the drummer. His drums are so energetic and creative, Wake was the top drumming performance of 2014 for me, and AAL's TJOM came out that year.
nandi8 No worries they'll be a global act soon enough. I saw them in late 2012 when I wasn't a huge fan and loved it! I am a huge fan now after that night. Also I'm obese so in that way in a huge fan also.

ry strong album from these guys. I had it cranking earlier today. Its not easy to bring together melody, pop sensibility and technical proficiency!
The drummer/vocalist is a fucking beast!
has he been on drums and vocals since the formation of HTS?
+Samuel Odadjian Yes. Sometimes during concerts Donny will get up and just sing while a friend plays drums, though.
Yes. He IS hail the sun.
ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME!
who else thinks it looks like Josh from Drake&Josh on the thumbnail for the video
these guys are sick
they play "will they blame me if you go disappering"? i really like that song
Saw them play that song last night :D

might be a limitation he has despite of how much he can do already
didn't that guitarist play with dgd for a while on tour
+iiJohanii yep, hail the sun is his full-time band.
+Chewseph ohhhhhh lol dude is a boss too haha
Donovan is a beast
No circle pit at 3:42? What a shame.

What guitar is that? It's so sick, is it a rickenbacker?
Fucking amazing
I saw them live not to long ago on the Dance Gavin Dance tour. They were alright but they sounded a lot better than what they do in this video

+Sam Emaus I agree. I understand that he most likely loves to play the drums, but it has to be exhausting.

They play a few songs live with a backup drummer so Donovan can come up and sing. I think that works well for the band.
too bad i live in fcking Hungary, never be able to see them live

+Mind's Eye They are great live, this is just a bad one.
