    I've painted all my millwork (base boards, crown, wainscoting, spindles and ceilings) White dove. It was one of Candice Olson's favorite color and I fell in love with it when she was on Divine Design. most of my walls are Silverplate by SW except kitchen.

    In our open concept kitchen, living, dining room I used White Dove on our kitchen cabinets. They were professionally painted and I believe they used a pearl sheen with some sort of hardener in it for durability. I am painting the rest myself, using White Dove semi gloss on the trim (crown molding, base trim, door trim, etc.) and White Dove flat on the walls. The difference in the sheens gives the appearance of a slight contrast and I didn’t have to worry that the trim color and the wall color didn’t “go together“.

      Thanks for the review! May I ask which kind of paint did you use? I am planning on using BM Ben interior or regal select but heard simply white is super hard to cover and may take more than two coats (the original wall color is a warm off white)

    I've used both colors in my house. I use White Dove on the trim of a room with good lighting, it faces southeast. In a northwest facing room with less light I use Simply White and it works well there. White Dove looked a bit dirty to me in that room. Simply White is warm but feels like it finds the right balance between modern and traditional. White Dove, on the other hand, definitely feels more traditional to me. It has a "lived in" look to it, which doesn't look "dirty" in the southeast facing room, but it definitely looks like it's been there for a long time, whereas Simply White have a fresh/new look wherever I put it. For some reason, White Dove makes me think of Jefferson's Monticello, like it belongs in a house built in 1800.

    We used White Dove for our kitchen cabinets. They were done with a slight lacquered mix (is that a word) to give them durability which gave them a soft, beautiful sheen. With our house being very open, we ended up using White Dove on all the trim and doors (semi gloss) and even the ceiling (flat). A lot of the decision was based on me being "over it" in trying to pick whites that worked together. It ended up being a wonderful decision for our home. Very beautiful! The walls of the open room are BM Collinwood which looks great with the White Dove in our south facing room, but this color can change drastically with changing light, but luckily for me, I like them all. I wish I had found your videos sooner. It might have saved me (and my poor husband who had to live with me during that time) some stress, I enjoy them very much!

    Your videos have helped me immensely when picking a white color for my kitchen cabinets! I'm painting the cabinets this fall and then having the walls, ceiling and trim in my kitchen and family room professionally painted next spring. I've decided on White Dove for kitchen cabinets and Maritime White for my walls. I have one question - for ceilings and trim, should I stay with White Dove or is there another brighter white that you suggest? Since these two rooms are open to each other, I don't want too much going on. Thanks again!

    Thanks for these reviews! I'm a residential painter and have worked with these colours numerous times, but trying to pick a white for my walls has proven to be the hardest decor decision I have ever made. I started with Swiss Coffee 🚫🚫🚫! Chose because I used it for a client's renovated basement and loved it... But it was walls, ceiling and trim plus much different lighting (almost no natural). Swiss coffee in my space read yellow and just yuck. Then after a few samples, chose vanilla milkshake. Loved it as I was painting as I could see it eliminating the yellow immediately. Over the next couple of days I realized the vanilla milkshake reads green in my space! NOT what I'm going for. I then decide f*#k it, I'm going with Chantilly lace. I've done it for clients and always love it. Started cutting and realize that it's making my freshly painted (old, coved, 50s popcorn) ceiling look yellow/beige! I'm not prepared to repaint the ceiling with an oil primer + finish to get it looking whiter so I'm back to the drawing board on picking a colour and at a complete stand still. My BM dealer suggested Oxford white, I've got the sample on the wall and it's looking almost identical to the Chantilly. I'm going to need more of a contrast for the ceiling situation, so I'm looking at white dove, but feeling so uncertain and I just want to put my furniture back! Lol. I'm loving the white walls trend, but not the choosing the right white part.

    Hiya from Spain. I have a wooden Cabin, 5 mtrs x 5 mtrs square. I am having the timber frame insulated and plaster boarded so the walls will be all plaster, ready to paint. The tiles I have chosen for the floor are a large square light beige porcelain tile, neutral and modern. I want a very white, crisp, modern feel for the paint colour. I am going BM paints and would love a recommendation for the Best White for the entire walls. My interior style is going to be very wood and natural materials with a MCM twist. My short list of BM Whites would be Chantilly Lace, Simply White, White Dove or Super White. The Cabin will get a lot of natural Spanish sun. Please give me your advice. Love this Channel, its super informative and I never knew there was so much to know about Paint and colours. Cheers

    I banged my head against the wall for nearly a month trying to figure out which colors to use in my north facing condo. I wanted color but I wanted "barely there" color. Finally, I chose White Dove for the walls and Chantilly Lace for the trim. In the bathroom which has black and white granite and faux white and gray marble tiles, I used White Wisp (a color more people should know about) which I really like.
    My place feels light, airy, cohesive and very comfortable with White Dove on the walls. It feels like everything works with it. The sofa is white and the TV console is white but they are different shades of white and they both work with White Dove. I have brown and black kitchen with an awesome marble/glass backsplash and it all works with White Dove. Finally, my living room rug is blue and green and my drapes are shade of green as well and it all works well with White Dove.
    Thanks for these videos as it really helped me narrow down my choices and I'm happy with the results.

I had it repainted White Dove and it brightened up the room and made the place look happier and brighter and beautiful. It goes with everything. Have a bit of a white mish mash going on here. Trim is cloud white (I think), we painted all the walls Simply white when we moved in and LOVE it. Kitchen cabinets are stained almost black which looks great with the new quartz marble look countertops and white walls but the cabinets need painting, desperately! They show the scrapes and dust like crazy! The backsplash is a cool white and will probably need to be changed so, should I go White Dove or Simply White on the cabinets? Which would look better? I could go a bit crazy and paint them Wrought Iron or Hale's navy but they need to be scrubbed down almost every day. The dust drives me crazy.

    Thank you for your educational videos, James! I would like an all-house white trim color for kitchen (western exposure) cabinets to the ceiling blending into the crown molding, base and crown moldings, doors, and inset plantation shutters. I like White Dove (in photos, especially!), but it doesn't look so hot as trim in a windowless laundry I have with Edgecomb Gray walls. Do you still recommend it as one of the best options for this application? (floors are medium brown oak, soapstone counters, and backsplash either the same soapstone or a coordinating glossy white subway tile). So often, I see White Dove on cabinets, but the rooms don't have cabinets to the ceiling blending into crown molding, and/or they don't have crown molding at all. If you have time for a reply, thank you, if not or it's missed, I understand.

      @@thepaintpeople oh, my--I'm ashamed to see I asked this Q a year ago, you replied, and then I didn't! And, hear I am again...with paint STILL not chosen and rewatching your wonderful videos. I have Samplize tester swatches and bought cans in the past. The Samplize swatches are nice, but the sheen doesn't help me as much for trim. But, just in case you all see very tardy replies, White Dove appears dingy in my house--especially in the windowless laundry room. I found out my husband bought BM satin WALL paint--not a trim paint, so I suspect that's affecting it's look. I thought I had settled on Simply White for cabinets and trim, but your video says it's better for a minimalist look. Not sure my home is in that category--more of a Modern Colonial that will eventually have simple shaker cabinets and walnut accents (island) and soapstone. Heading to the paint store now and watching your videos until I figure it out!

    Struggled to choose among many whites, but I kept eliminating ones that seemed to have a tint "statement", ie pink, yellow, blue, grey. I liked the LRV and freshness of Simply White, but it kept reading yellow, especially in my north X northwest rooms, and really so in the low light living room. I was striving for a "whole house" white, including walls, ceiling, and trim. My place is converted Victorian Triplex, so you can imagine all sorts of weird, crazy, disorganized, chopped up, and flawed trim, too many doors, odd mismatched windows, no symmetry, some textured surfaces (ugh), and so forth. I'm striving to unify the whole mess. White Dove seemed my best choice due to it's "griege" undertones, but it wasn't crisp enough. So today, I have the first coat of White Dove on one room-BUT-I had it cut by 25% so it's similar value to Simply White, but without the yellow. (I tried samples of 50% because the paint store said I wouldn't see the difference at 25%, but it was too stark white and lost the complexity.) Wish me luck!

    • @thepaintpeople
      @thepaintpeople  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Happy! Yes, Simply White does have that yellow undertone so I see why that might be an issue for you. And White Dove does have that surprising gray undertone, but is still pretty warm. (Maybe all the apartments eventually, so needs to be easy to clean and touch up after tenants.) And I took you to heart about the complexity of White Dove working in a kitchen against, in my case, maple cabinets and stainless steel. I have a neutral white in my living room and it reads stark and steely, so for this reason, and need for several coats, I ruled out Chantilly Lace and Super White. So far, I'm happy with the 25% diluted White Dove, at least in the bedroom. We'll have to see about the lowlowlow light living room, when I get there.

      @@OGCJ10 Hi So far I only did one room-a ground level bedroom with a bay window and yellowy pre-fab oak floors. Note well, I diluted White Dove by 25%, making it lighter. I love it! It looks good in every light condition, and it has a very rich, creamy, peaceful feel to it. It never looks yellow or grey, or griege. I would not have thought that a white would make me feel happy but this does. I bought 12x17? poster paper and painted each one fully with each different white I'd narrowed down to, taping them all over the apartment, and that helped me decide. Both the paint store and a professional painter told me I wouldn't see the difference at 25% and should go 50%, but I absolutely could see the difference. 50% washed out all the good qualities of White Dove, and 25% gave me the benefits of the higher LRV's, but retained the complexity. Good luck and tell me how it goes for you, especially because I don't know when I'm going to get to the living room where light is the poorest-blocked by an enclosed porch...;(

White Dove has some warmth, so if the quartz is cooler/gray, then the creaminess of the White Dove might come through which you may like or not like.
