WKFT-TV 40, Fayetteville NC Sign-Off & Sign-On 1993

- Combination sign-off and sign-on clip recorded one Monday morning in June 1993. The sign-off is preceded by a WKFT salute to Spivey's Corner, NC (home of the famous National Hollerin' Contest), and a promo for an upcoming Durham Bulls minor-league baseball telecast. The station is now WUVC and is owned and operated by Univision.

I loved this channel...and I remember being devastated when it went off of the air for good.For those of us who didn't have cable in those days..it was our clearest channel we could receive.Damn...I miss that MATLOCK.We miss you WKFT 40.

It now lives on......as Univision station WUVC. :(

mMan this brings back ol' memories. WKFT-40 was the channel I watched for Charlotte Hornets basketball and Baltimore Orioles baseball. Man I miss those days.

Up until 1995, it was one of my 2 favorite channels in the Triangle (Raleigh-Durham Area). I so enjoyed hearing "WKFT: Fayetteville- Raleigh-Durham." Now it's become an affiliate to Univision which speaks only Spanish.
From the post-WRAL simulcast era... in the 80s this channel was branded "CounterForce 40" until WRAL latched on to them temporarily after their tower was knocked out by an icestorm in December 1989
This was also before they were known as “Lovin’ TV 40”, which lasted from about 1995 to 1998 or so…
I used to love this channel when I was a kid. WWF syndicated shows on the weekends and afternoon cartoons after school each day.
I used to work there with Jim in production. That was my first TV job. I also knew Cindy at the top of this clip. My job was to cut promos and edit movies...let's say I missed a couple of shots that should have been edited out in a movie and moved on to other things....fun job, though! This brings back memories. I had just moved to NC in June of 93 from up north. I loved WKFT for the old Taxi reruns. I also remember the Hollerin Contest!
I used to stay up late and watch them, too, and still think they're cool. I never bothered to explain it to my parents because I didn't know how, either. :)

Annnnd it's now WUVC, a Spanish speaking station now owned by Univision, and now, since they moved from Fayetteville completely, Fayetteville has NO tv station now, which sucks since we get our news mostly from Raleigh and Durham.

I used to work at WLFL-TV as the transmitter guy. It is a Raleigh station and WKFT was a direct competitor.
It blew my mind that there were a number of 5 MW ERP (analog) UHF signals in that area. Carolina Power & Light did very well in that area! WKFT, WLFL, WRDC (ex WPTF-TV), WNCN and WRAZ all come to mind.

What's the ID music?
I actually stumbled across a used blank video at the Salvation Army (that I bought for a mere 49 cents) - little did I know, someone actually recorded some stuff from WKFT sometime in either the late 1990s or early 2000s - sadly, there was no audio whatsoever in the recording! That really sucked!!!
Aside from having no audio, it did indicate at the end of the newsbrief that I had that WKFT was owned by Carolina Capital Communications by the time whomever first had that tape recorded that, back sometime in 1999 or so.

@@friesareyummy I thought it was cool. In Australia the 1000hz tone went off key before static and sounded like it was running out the door for a smoke. "BEEEEEEP GOT YA PIZZA SNOW" then static sounds pissed off going CZZZZZZZZ. Sticky bars latching the box onto the bar and a quick hover out the door. It wouldnt suprise me the station pays it for toneing "I toned now give me my money b*tch"
It's worse than the tone on its own.

Hy,it’s pity Ntsc was in 525 lines only,and the colors management.Picture wasn’t very clear..PAL or Secam 625 lines were the best..The best Secam appearance was made by Canal+ .
