Tips for shed hunting
- cloudy days are better bc sheds stand out more
- south facing slopes have more sunlight so deer bed there
- check bedding areas and food sources
- Bring mountain Sheew
The only important one is the mountain sheeeeeeeeeeew!
The mountain sheewwwww is the most important part you won’t find joe nailers shed unless you have the sheeeeeww
You always half to have mountain sheeewwww
Also run fence lines. When they jump fences they will sometimes drop when they land
@@Skye_High_Scrogger fence lines are good but it’s normally because they walk the fence line and rub thier antlers on the brush more than them falling off when the jump

Flair, for the bottom pasture you need to go to Tractor Supply and pick up a bag or 2 of pasture mix (all purpose forage) It is a seed mix that is good for all animals. 😊 we do this for our cattle/ horse pastures. Hope that helps

Flair I have been training my black labrador retriever and something I noticed about Lucy is that she has trouble coming right to you so something you can do is carry treats with you and give them to her when she comes but make it random so that she know that if she comes she will maybe get a treat so she will always come. Also put a quality collar on her this will make her feel controlled and it will help her listen better.
Need to reward her every time she finds any antlers. Even the ones you plant

Hey flair, so basically deer can kick off there sheds with there back legs or they can rub them on a tree or fence, ect. So look for rub marks on trees

A tip is to have her chew on an old one you have around the house. They get the texture, looks of it and they realize not at home they have to find it.

I’m no pro at shed hunting but here’s a couple things I’ve learned
It’s all about putting in my miles, the more you walk, the more you’ll find.

Fences or anywhere they have to jump
And most importantly deer beds
Find the beds find the sheds

Timing is everything
The best time to look for sheds is in late winter and early spring, after the snow has melted and before spring growth has started. The rains and snows have flattened leaflitter and the trees and shrubs are bare, so shed antlers are most visible.

You can start finding sheds in January. Look around pine or cedar spruce trees and they'll be around the edges of them. I've found hundreds of them that way. We build lamps and all sorts of cool things. Sell them for guys who build knives and use the tines for handles.
Love the video! Just for you know. You should look for deer scrapes on trees, or on the ground too. That is how I find some of my sheds.

A rub is where the deer takes his antlers and breaks the bark of a tree. Scrape is where a buck uses his hooves to make a mark in the ground for territory

Shed hunting tip- go to south facing slopes with food and bedding nearby the south facing slopes will be the warmest in the winter so the deer will be there most often

Flair you can make like a little box and put corn in the back so when they try to eat the corn they hit there antlers on the wood of the box and they fall off
Check thick pines and known bedding areas for the winter. Deer shake like dogs when they wake up and the big bucks can easily shake off their antlers when getting up from bedding areas. Also check runways that cross fence lines or where deer typically crawl under or jump over things. Deer should’ve dropped by now so start looking and good job Lucy! 👏

that’s a pretty awesome find and pretty great first outing for the dog. me and my pointer walked like 20 miles last year and he only got one dead head. wi northwoods are little tougher. walk the perimeter of those corn fields
You should rotate the animals between those too shed areas this summer so that the grass has a chance at regrowing

Petition for the Googans to make shoes and call them “SHEEEWWWS”
Antlers loosen up and fall off after winter. Typically in early spring. They do not need to hit them on anything or jump fences to knock them off. However if they drop one side they will sometimes try rubbing a tree to knock it off. Or if it's loose when they jump a fence the jar of landing can cause them to come off. Look on South facing slopes and around cedar patches.
