Hey Flair when you’re trot line fishing you want to use pap’s juice is good but either live bait or cut bait is probably better to use also trot lines work better when you leave it overnight because catfish are normally nocturnal feeders so let it sitting in the middle of the day won’t really catch that many catfish

Tie one end of the trot line to a tree or somewhere on the bank, run it out and tie the other end of your mainline between a jug and your bottom weight, stretch it tight and then you'll have tension on the line and your baits stay suspended. You may have to play with different depths and areas to locate fish but this setup has provided the best results for me personally.

You should tie the weights like the hooks and you should hve three one at the start of the trout line one in the middle and one in the middle, and you should also run it across the water

You need to make a jump box, very simple to make and keeps everything organized. My great uncle was a commercial fisherman on the Mississippi River and had tons of these. Made organizing and baiting very fast and efficient. It was a marvel to watch as a child.

8:00 - I've used those trotline kits. They work well for ponds like ours. I Love the quick connections they come with. Now I make my own trotline with heavier mainline and duck decoy crimps and big 1/0 brass swivels.

I always use the boat bumpers that float that you put next to your boat in between your boating and the dock. And tied to the string and then await on in keep the hooks off of the bottom

I use gator aid bottles for my floats. Tie one end to a limb. In the middle of your line tie the float and set you weight out on the other end. That way the line is floating in the middle keeping the line off the bottom. If you stretch you line tight the line will stay close to the bottom. Use a bait that will stay longer than liver or any other soft bait. I use cut Shad or cut perch. Perch tends to stay longer but I catch more on Shad.

When we do trot lines we usually use worms for bait and it works really good.
I use live blue gill and cut blue gills. If theres current use the paper method on the blue gills. Also cut shad is good.

Flair, my dad said that when he was younger he used to tie his bait onto a really strong kinda branch or he rod and tie a bottle as a kinda strike indicator. But make sure that there is air in the bottle cuz the fish will tire itself out eventually.

Flair use cut bait or crawfish for bait. Also place weights in the middle of your line also. Try to put them in deep pockets in rivers. Also try catfish southern style with cornmeal instead of flour
Circle hooks on trout lines, also alternate your bait... using cut bait chunks and chicken liver... keep it out over night and check next morning.
