Sara , a girl in high school showed me Eliot smith right after my dad died. It fundamentally changed my life . This performance in particular HAUNTS ME
Some great performances in this gig, though every time I watch I always wish the guitar is louder. His voice sounds so strong here that it’s a shame about the mixing imo
I agree. Isn't it great to see such an obviously influenced musician but not a copier. Someone with so much pain and passion. So sad that he's no longer with us.
I applied this to a situation I was in with someone and got myself out of... but I really don't know what this was supposed to be about. To me it's about someone who manipulates others and moves on to the next victim/s when he/she's been busted or caught...
Seems very much like a reference to Kierkegaard idea of living authentically and not running from the truth life through arbitrary distractions (that in actuality, we define our purpose by our end). I think Elliott was inspired by Kierkegaard's book Sickness Unto Death whilst writing this song.
@ruecks i thumbs downed your comment only because no matter who's better than whom, elliott smith AND kurt cobain are my only two obsessions ;p (i will say i understand where you're coming from, i really do, it's just the principal of it all)
everything about this whole live performance is so incredibly good it physically hurts me

Without an enemy your anger gets confused.

A master of the lilting melody, just like McCartney.

@mntlPurple are you serious man??? kurt cobain/nirvana didn't even come close to the genius of elliott smith
can anyone better than me please teach me how to play this? No one has covered it accurately, let alone done a lesson.

with the problem, with the puzzle
whatevers left of you...

Wouldn't be surprised if Elliott resurrected to say this song was actually about me.
