I am a man, and this story still made me cry... I just was so touched with the amount of suffering she endured to achieve her dreams! How she got her high school diploma while still being married to an abusive husband is beyond comprehension! She is amazing! An inspiration not just for women, but for men who feel they will never achieve their dreams! What touched me most was the power of visualisation... Even in such a small village, with no formal education, her mother and grand mother encouraged her to visualise her dreams! That’s truly an amazing!

If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough. You can, you should, and if you're brave enough to start, you will. Hi guys! It's me again :) You might have seen me before but my desire to inspire more people is what keeps me pushing to reach out more. We own a cookie shop business in our college town. When we first started it, we just graduated college and were living in our car with very little direction, just a huge passion to be successful. I started it out of a local bagel shop in their off hours at night with my boyfriend, Bran. It was a crazy experience but it worked! We became a success! And how we have our first storefront location (a second one currently under construction but launching soon!) We started it to fund a year long backpacking trip around the world and to be successful while living the life of our dreams.

How Ungrateful and selfish have I been to make excuses for the batons I have decided to carry. While it is true that It is not my fault for them being passed down to me, it is my fault for every day that I decide to wake up and pick it up again. Dr. Tererai Trent, Thank you for being a warrior of this life. I'm sorry for not doing my part for our community. Many batons are being put down.

Deeply moving!! Thank you Marie for donating - this made me cry tears of joy! I just returned from 3 very remote wildlife camps in Kenya and visited schools with 1,000 children and no books. I tried to give the girls a talk about careers but realized I was out of touch with their reality since they didn't even have books. I will be buying and sending several copies of this book and mail to our wildlife guides there for them to give to their wives to read to the ladies in camp who can not read. What an incredible role model!

Tears of recognition and sisterhood from a fellow visionary - and gratitude for yet another amazing loving leader who broke the cycle of outdated programming. Let the ripples continue. Thank you so much, Marie and Tererai, for sharing your beautiful hearts!!
Treasured Tererai, you have turned the baton of poverty into a torch of prosperity for generations to come - through your determination, your belief, your incredible strength - and your unshakable perseverance, beyond all odds.
    I applaud and celebrate you both! 💕🌿 🙏🙏🏽 🌿 💕
I needed to hear that right now, because BIG DREAMS can take so much longer than you'd think when you first start out, and the mind (and others) are quick to try to convince you to 'just drop it already and do something 'real''. Well, dreams made real ARE 'something real'.
... and your dreams are always worth persevering, especially when they're connected to the betterment of the world around you and your community. So, let's keep listening to that wise voice within and loving encouragement from that sage voice through all.
Always ask "How would LOVE decide?"
    "How would FEAR decide?"
With so much love and appreciation!

Perseverance and self-belief, that's my main takeaway. This is one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen, it truly touched my soul... I've given up on my dreams several times, making excuses that "it's probably not my dream anyway" - all because of being rejected or because of a couple of failures. The voice of the heart can really be silenced to the point of seeming like you don't have one at all. I know and have read many, many accounts of how super-successful people have been rejected so many times, etc. But somehow nothing had brought home this concept for me as deeply as listening to this woman - the PERSEVERANCE and SELF-BELIEF required to deserve the Universe honoring your dreams in the first place. Not dependent on immediate success. Not dependent on having things easy. Not dependent on your "competition". Who am I to give up on the dreams that were divinely placed in my soul?? This woman is a true warrior of light and I'm buying that book right now and putting it on my bedside table (and by the way, thank you so much Marie, your channel has been changing my life for years)

This made me cried and deeply touches my heart. Relate much to her story, got a 3 children at a very young age. Did not finish my study and no stable job to support our needs. And this time wanting to start and move forward to aim my goal and to pursue my dreams through education. Thank you for this episode this helps me a lot. More Success and God Bless you always Marie and to Dr. Tererai as well.

Such a touchstone of wisdom and purpose! So much that slides into place within the heart, philosophically and spiritually, hearing this conversation. Thank you, Dr. Tererai Trent and Marie Forleo.
PS: Now that I've finished watching this video (after replaying several parts!), in answer to the questions posed to viewers at the end:
~ The part that went home the deepest, for me, was that of how "If we believe in our dreams, Yes, we can achieve. If we believe in the dreams of others and create platforms for their opportunities, Yes, they can achieve their dreams."
Said by Dr. Tererai Trent and highlighted by Marie Forleo and her team.
~ Because both of those tenets are what I'm in the process of calibrating! So what I will do about it is to figure out how to weave these truths into a vocation (to be determined).

There were three main things that really resonated with me (but it was ALL wonderful!). The first being that you have to have the INTENTION. The second being that you have to have that BIG hunger. Which of course the two are related because your intention is born out of finding and recognizing your big hunger. And finally, this lead me to where it has finally occurred to me that the piece I have been missing, in feeling a fulfillment and wholeness in my work/career, has been the piece where I must include the betterment of my community as part of my vocation in life. I am 53 years old and I have had a successful career but I now know what I can do for at least the next 10 years to build up and help the community and city I live in to be a better place/the best place it can be. And I am going to DO IT!

HOLY S! please excuse the language Marie, but this is exactly what I needed to hear this morning. I almost busted out crying on the bus to work this morning watching this. Dr Trent what an honour it is to have you in our lives..I am lost for words! As a single mother who has just graduated from university, I was the first in my family. I have now been overwhelmed and scared about progressing into the next chapter in my career and I am starting to feel like who am I to follow my dreams, they are too big for me and I will never be smart enough to achieve them. after listening to you speak I know feel a sense of calm and ease. I feel you have ignited my fire to continue on my journey, and I can see myself holding the baton and sprinting towards the finish line. THANK YOU! I cannot wait to read your book Dr. Trent. and thank you Marie for always providing me with such useful and inspirational tools. regards, Michelle. x

OMG I am sobbing!!! I have seen her at Oprah years ago. This is an amazing story and I kept trying to think on what I would do (vision) to help in my community and I am passionate about shelter. I have been with this in my mind for a few months now, about shelter for women (for everyone, but women came to mind because I have a few women I know in their 50's struggling to pay rent). I have to figure out exactly what to do but THAT'S what came to my mind, when she was talking about vision that goes beyond ourselves (as per her mother's advice). No words to define her story, how amazing she is and the same goes to Marie!!! Marie, I am crying again and I can't believe you did this for these 7 girls!! THANK YOU!!!

Wow, Marie! What an incredibly moving interview. So much wisdom and inspiration! At many points, it made me cry. Of all the many nuggetts of wisdom I heard (and there are many!!), I think that the one that struck me the strongest is the one when Dr Trent says that to know our true passion, the dream we are called to individually, we need to find the answer to the question 'What breaks your heart?'. This question does indeed seem to cut straight to the very core of who we are.
Once again, thank you so much for this beautiful moment. May you both be blessed!

Wasn’t planning to cry ugly tears this morning while getting ready for the day. So beautiful! What I am most fascinated by is her mother and grandmother’s words of wisdom to visualize her dreams and to write them down. The fact that they were born into poverty and not allowed to have dreams however knew the importance of visualization is phenomenal.

A wonderful story indeed. It literarily brought tears to my eyes because I can relate with every single experience in her story. I was passed down the Baton of poverty too. But I decided to change my story with dogged resolution. It was not easy. I went into medical school to study medicine and surgery at age 37years with 4 children. It looked so impossible, there were times I was afraid and thought I'd crash under this heavy burden. My passion and desire to give my 4girls a better life kept me on. I didn't want to pass the same baton of poverty to them. Going through medical school and having to pay the school fees myself was like going through hell. I also had their school fees to pay. So I had to simultaneously do business with going through medical school. God saw me through. Today, I am a medical doctor.
I will not give up as I have also enrolled into residency program..
I believe "where there is a will there is a way" I'm not there yet, as I have a community of women I lead to help them achieve their dreams too. I feel I owe my community, the community of women in Nigeria that responsibility.
I promised myself if I can go through,(God sees me through) I'll help other women too.
The burden is enormous, I trust God to help me to be able to do more.
      Great story!

It was so inspiring! I nearly started crying. Dr. Tererai Trent is such a great great example of a person who chases after her dreams! My biggest takeaway that we need to have our own dreams that burn like fire our soul! We need to chase them after, not to forget because of circumstances, because of age and so on. We need to have a vision and do everything we can to make dreams happen! Thanks, Marie for such a big inspiration!
