    Hi, just recently found your videos, love them. We just purchased a dark stained farm table. We want to distress and paint it off white with a glaze to achieve an old world look. My obsession is from Arhaus furniture from the bell'arte (bianca) collection.....(without paying that expensive price) Any suggestions as to what products we would chose to achieve this look? (Wasn't able to attach a photo...sorry)

      how I WISH she'd answer these questions. It would create sales, NO doubt. I KNOW. "I'd" be the buyer!

    Hi! Can I apply cracked gesso over a fresh coat of paint? I just discovered this but have started to paint the piece I want to use it on

      Yes, absolutely, but you don't want a lot of bubbles so let your paint dry first.

      @Amy Howard thank you so much! Right now I have one coat of milk paint dried on it. Are 2 coats of gesso required to acheive this look?

    Hi there, can I apply cracked gesso
    To a piece of furniture that has previously been stained and finished with some sort of topcoat? Will I get a good result?

    Are you able to use an existing piece that is already stained?

      +Barclay Stone Great question! The Stain + Gesso holds best to porous surfaces like raw wood or One Step Paint. That doesn't mean you can't try, it'll most likely flake off after a time. Is your piece sealed?

      Thanks! Have no idea if it's sealed. It's an older traditional wood piece. But, that's good to know that it works best with raw wood.

      Yes, if the piece is big enough, you may try to apply it on a little sample of the piece to see if the wood receives it. If there is a sealant/wax, then the wood won't "take" the product.

    What is the difference between cracked gesso and regular gesso?

    • @amyhowardathome
      @amyhowardathome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gesso is very similar to white acrylic paint, only thinner. It dries hard, making the surface more stiff. Gesso prepares (or "primes") the surface for painting, making the surface slightly textured and ready to accept acrylic paint, While Cracked Gesso is a fine plaster applied to canvas allowing a multitude of cracking opportunities. This can be gilded or painted and applied to any surface.

    Close-ups would be helpful to see how much you're putting on.
