Here in 2024. Thank you so very much for this detailed, step by step process explaining the key parts of a faux marble finish and what tools and techniques to use. Your explanation makes so much more sense than the other videos I have seen. ❤🌹
It means so much for people to show their love during times of loss. My Mom has been gone 6 years; I miss her everyday. Grief is hard..take care of yourself. Thank you for your video.
I've watched several marbling videos tonight and you are the best teacher. You really gave me confidence that I can actually do this myself. Thank you so very much!!!
I enjoyed this very much. This gives me the confidence to try and do this to my bathroom floor. As a single mom, on a budget, you gotta find ways to make things work. I am looking forward to trying this. Thank you!
Such a beautiful lady inside and out. Great work and thanks for showing it in such a simple manner. After years of construction work in various trades and surface treatments ( paint, texture, wallpaper, etc. ) my preferred areas are carpentry and faux finishes and this work can marry the two. You make it look easier than it actually is; without an artistic inclination to know when and how to connect the components one will always struggle to make it look natural. It definitely is not a paint by numbers task. I'll subscribe and search for more of your videos
Thank you! I just came across this video. I hope the pain of losing your mom has lessened. I don’t believe that the pain will ever go away. It makes me cry just thinking of losing my mom. She is 81 and her mind is diminishing. Thanks again and God Bless!
Amy I am new to your blog and I have gotten so touched by your words and I do have to say that I am so sorry for your loss. Time will help mourning and healing. I have lost my husband, mom, and dad 11 years ago and in the same year...all my strength and life were gone at that time. With my loss, I have found that life can be beautiful again because of the memories we can embrace from the loved ones that are not with us physically but in our hearts! I wish from the bottom of my heart that the love and memories of your beloved mom will fullfill your sadness and help you to go on. I am using the art to brighten my days and learning techniques with you! ---@
I just stumbled on to this channel looking to diy decorate my new home, and by the end of this all I want to do is send you virtual hugs and prayers! Losing the Matriarch is NEVER easy, but she lives in you and she will continue her life through you as long as you never give up. I cannot imagine losing my mother. Bless your heart that you have found the strength to meet us here to continue teaching us how to create these beautiful works of art. Thank you for sharing your gift. My sincere prayers to you and your family during such a hard time, no matter how long or how short it's been since you've made this video. ❤ God bless you and be with you!
This video came at a perfect time for me. I was caregiver for both parents. My mom was last to pass almost three years ago and I have been really grieving these last few weeks. Really for the first time because I've been so busy. I came because I am really interested in faux and custom finishes. When you started talking about your mom passing it was like God reminding me he knows where I am and what I'm going through. My father was a Church of God pastor. And when you mentioned TN it was another nudge. I am so grateful. I laughed and cried. You showed me that you're a real person thats passionate about what you do and it really encouraged me. God bless you. I'm heading to Ace Hardware tomorrow for my products. I am really excited. I felt the shell crack tonight and I feel like I can make it. Thanks for being so sweet and vulnerable. It really made the difference for me. I will be praying for your Pops.
I just want to say thank you for posting and sharing this. I’m a muralist, but all my sample attempts were second rate. I tried your sure fire method, and did 3 great columns for an exterior Victorian job in San Francisco. Now I’m going my kitchen wall. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with the world.
My first time here! So excited! I’m so sorry about your momma. I lost mine almost 12 years ago and it was a shock to all of us. It is very hard to lose a parent. Be kind to yourself.. don’t let anyone tell you how to grieve. Everyone grieves differently and you take as long as you need. ❤️🙏🏼
Thank you so much for teaching your technique!! You are a wonderful teacher because I feel like I can actually do this and do it well. I'm so excited to get started!!
Hi there, thank you very much for sharing this technique and I accidentally found this page as I was looking for All In One Paint and I heard your story and decided to stay and learn a different technique. Thank you so much for sharing and I’m so sorry for your loss. I have had a lot of lossesand I can’t promise you will ever be over it but my prayers are with you and thank you again for sharing your friend Gerri Dagostino
Dear Amy Howard, I have completed my task and the result is sublime! If I had the computer skills to send a picture I would. I thank you for your thorough tutelage. Your instruction was seamless. You are my new favorite person...sincerely, Joe
I tried this technique on a scrap of linoleum this weekend and it turned out great. On to the kitchen counters! Thanks for the step by step tutorial, you were easy to follow and encouraging.
Blessings on you and your dad during this time. I am going to be recreating this technique in our master on the tray ceiling. So thank you for sharing the details of your process.
Indeed, it is a wonderful work. I have learned and benefited a lot from you, and I intend in the coming days to do this thing and practice it because it is truly enjoyable and brilliantly attractive work.
Absolutely LOVED your video. Watched from Cape Town, South Africa!! Video was very informative, creative and the end product absolutely STUNNING! Thank you so much for sharing :-)
I did a marble effect on my fireplace surround years ago. I did most of what you've done here except the additional layering of paint and glaze...This is such a great technique. Love how the layering softens the whole look. I am planning to do this on a table top. Wanted to reacquaint myself with the the marbling process. So glad I came across your video! Thank you!
Bless your heart and for the void I know that is so ever present. I found you after a DIY search and just hearing you talk, convinced me I need to see your work and be taught and encouraged by such a sincere and open person! God bless you and all your loved ones. Thank you for sharing such personal and beautiful feelings. ❤
I love this simplistic method. I'm a fluid artist, and I pour marble designs? but I might try your technique on a large surface. Thanks for sharing! ➡️🙂
I’m so excited to come across this tutorial! I’m moving into a new house next week and can not wait to try this!!❤️ I’m so very sorry for your loss. Our parents are jewels and we miss them dearly. However, remember the true legacy to our parents is the adults they have created with us. Stay brave, pass on the kindness, my friend ❤️
i know its over a year old now but you sharing your emotions really touched me.she s allways there with you you know? Dieing is not the end.much love to you and also that was an awesome tutorial.thank you
My mother past away January 2019 it is now January 2022 and I still miss her. I loved her dearly and even though she was 86 I still was not ready for her death and I don’t think anyone is ever ready. My heart goes out to you and I know the pain your in. You never stop missing your mom you just learn to cope with the hurt .I am living in her house and I am redecorating her kitchen. I was always the on to replaced appliances when they worn out coming to the rescue when water was all over the floor from the washing machine breaking down. I am now fixing the kitchen and you have given me some great ideas. I am going to practice this . Thank you Laura Crismond, Front Royal, VA
You are a marvelous teacher Amy Howard, I just completed my 1st attempt which I am not too pleased with, but will paint over and try again. Watching your video and style feels as though you have become my private tutor. Thank you for this inspiring tutorial.
I am so happy to stumble upon your video. How ironic that I lost my mother one week ago today. The pain is still raw and I was touched by your words. I guess it was meant to be. Well- you have a new follower. I love your instruction. 💛TY
Love your work! The story of the Spanish moss and cattails made me laugh, as well as leak some tears at the same time. Really creative! God Bless Krum, Texas
Wow, just stumbled across your video looking for faux marble diy and you’re a sweety with a beautiful heart. I’m so uplifted by your intro. Thank you 💖💖💖
Thank you so much for this very-detailed tutorial. I have studied several faux marbling techniques and yours is the most authentic. I am doing this for the first time and I am waiting for my second-colour scumble to dry so that I can add my white glaze and then I'm going to tackle the veining. I am doing the top of a buffet and it is starting to look like a magnificent piece of carrera or statuario marble. I AM SUPER EXCITED. Thank you... thank you... thank you...
Summary: 7:31 foam roll two coats of white 12:26 hit drag diagonally in one direction with natural sea wool sponge light grey scumble (1 part glazing liquid + 1 part light grey + 1 part water), you do not want to see the tool or the size of the tool 13:32 soften into negative space with lintfree rag 16:40 dab with sea sponge dark grey scumble (1 part glazing liquid + 1 part dark grey + 1 part water), leaving open spaces 17:40 blend the edges with rag 21:14 sponge brush white scumble (1 part white + 1 part glaze + 1 part water) 22:28 dab randomly (not from left to right) with lintfree rag to create organic stone look 26:59 draw veins with dark scumble (3 part water + 1 part glaze + 1 part dark paint) with turkey feather. wow this is perfect i was looking for this technique while also grieving the loss of my mom who passed in january at only 45 years old. she was my best friend and i have been having such a hard time. i feel like this is a reminder that im not alone. thank you for sharing your expertise. subscribed👍
I just found this video and am very excited to try this technique. Who knew all these had a bunch of cool names? Scumble???? Love it! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Condolences on your loss, I know how hard it is to lose someone who means so much. It changes a person, this thing called grief. Love and hugs to you. They say time heals all wounds, but I feel it does not. Life becomes different, we may get closure, but the scar is always there.❤
I'm not sure if I'm saying any of this right but You are so easy to listen to. And I started tearing up when I heard u talking about ur mom because I just lost my dad recently and im still very sad and raw about it and I'm not sure I really know how to grieve. but I'm very sorry to hear about ur mom. But I can tell ur a sweet but strong person for sharing that. U give me strength to b creative so thank u
I have been looking for a job that can work at home which I like to do. Finally! I found it. Thank you very much for your inspiration!! I love your technique. It's amazing!!.
Elaine from Florida Hi! So glad I found you! I'm painting my kitchen cabinets and wanted to do marble countertops. Your's is the very best video I've seen! Perfect timing. Life will be different without Mom but just talk to her when you need to. It does get better!
I just lost my mom also too soon in February and the days are very up and down… it’s such a huge loss. Thank you for doing this even throughout your grieving process. ❤
I am really impressed with your video. I am planning to redo my basement countertop so your technique will help!! So far, the other videos I have watched didn't help much. It just doesn't look as real as your finish product here! Thank you!! I just subscribed to your channel!
Stunning, the thumbs down must have been from people that didn't watch the whole video! This is definitely the best I have seen. I've done something similar in my bathroom, but I may re-do it after seeing this. This technique is amazing. You Are a true artist. I've watched tons of people and have to say, this is the first time I have truly been impressed.
Hello, I am writing to you from Quebec (Canada). Thank you very much for this video. I will make a wall with this technique so well explained. The loss of a present mother is always difficult, even over time. I like to discover and get my hands dirty, so I will once again amaze my children hoping that they will keep a wonderful memory one day of their mom like you and yours. Once again thank you. I used Google translation to write to you because I speak French, sorry if my English is not good, but I had to write to you to thank you.
Just tuned into your channel today. Moving and going to have a whole new look in the new place and your instruction is going to be a big part of it! Hope to make my round black breakfast table top look like marble. Now to choose the base of the table color... I know its been over a year, but my condolences about your Mom. I know how you feel. Hugs!
Dear Amy, thank you so much for making this great video tutorial. I'm making a Book Nook at the moment. It's going to be an old Victorian style miniature library when it's finished and I decided to give it a miniature marble tiled floor, even though I had no idea how to create a faux marble finish 😅. I've looked everywhere on the internet for a good tutorial and I finally found yours, thank goodness. Lots of love from Amanda Jones in Melbourne, Australia P.S Your mother would be very proud of you. My mum died of Alzheimer's disease in 2017 and I still miss her everyday. You have my deepest sympathy. ❤
I just found your video and I know it is a couple of years ago, but I just wanted to send a lot of love and say that I'm sorry for your loss. Your love really goes through the screen ❤️
This is my 1st time on your channel so, first, I want to say I am so very sorry for the loss of your clearly much loved mother. I am so blessed to still have both of my parents, who are in their mid 80’s, so, I cannot imagine your pain as you learn to live without her. My prayers go out for you that God blesses you & your family with the strength & peace you need so much right now & in the years ahead. I loved your video, the turkey feather idea is fantastic! I’ve watched several, several marble painting videos & had never seen this technique before but, it is absolutely gorgeous!!! I look forward to watching many more of your videos! You seem like just a wonderful person and are a fantastic teacher! I know your mother is watching you from heaven with pure love & pride!🥰
Just tried this technique on my kitchen counters. 10/10 would recommend. I used a few colors of inexpensive acrylic paint (79cents per bottle) and mod podge instead of glazing medium. The ratios remained the same, and the white wash step really does add dimension. I ended up doing 2 more white washes at the end because I wanted a very white counter, and then a layer of iridescent pain and some mica flakes on top. Now to spend the next week applying layers of sealer to make it extra glossy! lol
I have completed painting and veins looks great, but now what? I am not sure about epoxy... ? how do I seal ? non yellowig? little bit of shine to make it look like real stone what do you recommend to seal it and non yellowing protective layer?
You're amazing! I'm kicking myself for replacing my green formica with faux marble formica! The countertop was good.. it just needed PAINT. I'm going to give this a try. All I have is cabinet paint with a long dry time (recoat recommended after 16 hours). Would you suggest skipping the glaze and doing half/half paint and water? Much love from Edmonton, Canada!🍁🦫
Nashville TN. Working on a 3rd room . Did my kitchen counters to sell house. Fooled everyone! They were so nice, my son wanted his 90's mauve bathroom painted to marble. Now. I am changing a kitchen center island and countertops. Thanks for the schooling❤️
Let me just say.. YESSSSS! Thank goodness finally someone gets it. Sure you can dump paint and all kinds of chemicals but it doesn’t quite get the “made over thousand years” look! You get it. The sandwich or double Oreo analogy is perfect. And usually I have anxiety watching a lot of these videos about halfway thru and yeah they turn out ok in the end but it’s never quite right. This is the closest I’ve seen. Great job 👍
Amy, thank you for your response. I think I will only have a few lines in special places. I like the way you prepared the wall it looks so natural. I have a wet side and dry. I am sure I need to seal my work when finished. Can you suggest one for me. Again thank you so much. I really thought I wouldn't get a reply. You are the bomb!!!
Amy, thank you for your reply. I think I can do this small bathroom myself. I have looked at several videos but yours was the one. Can you suggest a sealer for my wall when finished?
Absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Question: can you roll cookie dough (or any other dough, for that matter) safely on a countertop that has been thusly treated? Thank you!
This was a Great video. I am redoing my kitchen. I was looking at a beautiful quartz countertop, it was white w dark emerald green veining. It was $150-200 a sq foot! I'm one of 10 children and I just couldn't do that, lol! My Mama would not like that if she were still with us! TY so much for your kind sharing of your techniques. May God bless you.
Thank you Amy. We used your glaze and your technique to do our counter tops and they came out amazing. Def a 3D real look. We added 2 coats epoxy and it looks like marble! Thank you.
@@Fefe559 I used Giani countertop kit. I combined their paints with Amy glaze to create marble look. The Giani kit has 2 cans of unmixed epoxy which work perfectly.
@@peteyc1705 but doesnt epoxy yellow? I did not use a kit as I am a artist and have so many paints... but I did use really good base colours, paint that is moisture resistant and nothing can bleed through, but its most white counter tops, the veins I did very light and soft with some warm gold tones in the veins. I just have no idea which product to use to seal my painting so it looks hard and a light sheen like stone. non yellowing. who knows. everyone does their veins in the epoxy and I dont like that look as much plus I needed more than a hour work time to make them look 100% real.
Here in 2024. Thank you so very much for this detailed, step by step process explaining the key parts of a faux marble finish and what tools and techniques to use.
Your explanation makes so much more sense than the other videos I have seen. ❤🌹
Hey there! Thank you for watching!

I'm glad to hear that!
I really love your enthusiastic teaching style. You also have a very warm and tender heart. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing in this most difficult time! God keeps every tear you shed! And I am sure your Mom is very proud! 😢❤
This came out beautiful! This is one of the few realistic results I’ve seen on TH-cam.
Thank you so much!
yeah I agree with you. Other videos just show how to make the veins and do not speak about layering colors like this
I've watched several marbling videos tonight and you are the best teacher. You really gave me confidence that I can actually do this myself. Thank you so very much!!!
So happy to hear this! Thank you! 😊

I’m looking forward to doing this on my countertop. I watched it several times and took notes.
Hopefully mine turns out good.
Loved your lesson
Finishing Venetian plaster walls is harder than it looks but you make it look so easy using your technique.
Thank you again
You can do it too!

Watching all the way from England. Will be marbling my concrete floor. So a big thank you for the inspirational video .
We love you Amy. I'll show my marble project soon.

Hi! So glad I found you! I'm painting my kitchen cabinets and wanted to do marble countertops. Your's is the very best video I've seen! Perfect timing. Life will be different without Mom but just talk to her when you need to. It does get better!
Always always learn so much from you. I just ordered some fun items to continue to play with and keep learning. Thank you!!!
Have fun!
I just lost my mom also too soon in February and the days are very up and down… it’s such a huge loss. Thank you for doing this even throughout your grieving process. ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your talent, and I appreciate you sharing your heart... my heart goes out to you. God Bless
I am really impressed with your video. I am planning to redo my basement countertop so your technique will help!! So far, the other videos I have watched didn't help much. It just doesn't look as real as your finish product here! Thank you!! I just subscribed to your channel!
So beautiful!!
Thank you!!
Thanks for this fantastic tutorial..
I'm glad you used the turkey feather. I love it and God bless you 💞
God bless you too! Thanks!
You are very much welcome!
My Great Great Grandmother is THE Carrara Marble!!! This is pretty awesome that you can create the original family look! ♡
Thank you so much!
That’s amazing. Best video I’ve watched!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing finish!! Thankyou!
Thank you! Cheers!
Now to spend the next week applying layers of sealer to make it extra glossy! lol
Fantastic, Annabelle! We're so glad you enjoyed the technique.
Hey Iannabelle, I like the idea of using mod podge. How did that turn out? Also what did you use as your sealer? Thanks!
Did you happen to do a video on how you did yours?
I have watched many faux marble video's and this technique is hands down the Best!!
I have completed painting and veins looks great, but now what? I am not sure about epoxy... ? how do I seal ? non yellowig? little bit of shine to make it look like real stone
what do you recommend to seal it and non yellowing protective layer?
Wow best class ever in how to do this I'll try it with my children over the weekend on some small projects. And this lady vibe is amazing ❤
Hello, dear Amy. I'am Marina from Russia. Prayers and Blessings for you and your family.Thank you for all your pertect lessons! Kiss!
I love this so much as I’m scared to try it:)). I’m sorry to hear of your precious, wonderful Mom.
We recommend the Glaze but the 1:1 Ratio Paint would also work.
Nashville TN. Working on a 3rd room . Did my kitchen counters to sell house. Fooled everyone! They were so nice, my son wanted his 90's mauve bathroom painted to marble. Now. I am changing a kitchen center island and countertops. Thanks for the schooling❤️
That is awesome!
Loved it I'm going to do my fire surround thank you so much for posting
You are so welcome!
This is a great technique. You're a great teacher.
Wow, thank you ✨🎨
Let me just say..
Look very nice I will trying in my kitchen thanks
Absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Question: can you roll cookie dough (or any other dough, for that matter) safely on a countertop that has been thusly treated? Thank you!
@amy howard you are welcome. Thank you for your lovely light ♥️♥️
Great job. I want to do my countertops now
And so sorry for your loss Mother. But, she watch all the teaching and the good things you do for people. 😘
Glad it was helpful!
Que tipo de tinta é usado pra fazer esse trabalho?
Desde já agradeço
Thank you for sharing your art.
My pleasure 😊
Love this technique .I just started following you. I am from Saratoga Springs, NY
Welcome!!
Thank you Amy. We used your glaze and your technique to do our counter tops and they came out amazing. Def a 3D real look. We added 2 coats epoxy and it looks like marble! Thank you.
which brand of epoxy may I ask? i am stumped at the next stage... epoxy? or some kind of sealer?
Beautiful work thank you
Many thanks!
