End of the Year Review 1999
PART 1 of 3
Another Project courtesy of the Master himself Mr Nick Winfield
In my collection of Mr Nick Winfield is this series of "End of the Year reviews" which Nick puts together at the end of each year starting with 1995. This feature split into three parts and explores in this part 1, the Settle and Carlisle line in March of 1999, the WCML in the North West and the North East around Newcastle and Berwick upon Tweed, including the Tyne and Wear Metro. Nick also visited the Wales and West area and has now introduced the use of some background music, which due to copyright issues when remastering had to be dubbed or pieced over. I hope this video is received with appreciation of just how talented Nick was in his video creating skill. It is so sad that he never got to do so much more.
Great to see Newport in this...if briefly. Always nice to see "how it was" back in the day. All the best Mark.
You're always welcome Tim and many thanks too....all the best ....Mark
I know that there was already music on the video, but it just ruins it. I have been watching the videos on this channel for some time now, but I had to give up on this one after only 7½ minutes. It was bad enough when music started encroaching upon the beginnings and ends of videos, but this one was just unwatchable. Such a shame, as the films themselves are excellent.
I sort of copied the idea from how most movies start and finish with some musical piece. I always try to avoid silent moments in the videos but with Nick putting music on the original soundtrack which was copyrighted I had to mute it completely. I do agree it does spoil the atmosphere of the scene. I guess Nick thought it would enhance the quality, but instead it really caused problems with other issues. I do not think that a music piece interferes too much at the start and finish as I always choose to add it upon closure and fade out of the original soundtrack and the same applies at the beginning. I am deeply sorry if your enjoyment was impaired and as always I appreciate your comments and always wish you the most sincere regards....Mark
@@spompey Thanks for responding. Yes, I suppose that you had little choice if there was already music there. It won't stop me watching the others - I can always hit 'Mute' at the beginning and end! No unkindness intended - keep up the good work. It's great that you actually went out and filmed all of this, as today's railway seems very tame by comparison. I have also really enjoyed the continental stuff too, being someone who only started looking at Europe in 2000.
@@19AJB Many thanks for your interest in my channel, it is always appreciated whatever the comments.....More of the Netherlands and France to come, but very near the end of the video transfer project....There will be a gap as digital cameras replaced video and became more affordable, and for a while I only covered BR material, which of course some already exists on the channel, but a lot of unposted footage is there to upload....Just off to Scotland tomorrow to gather yet more material....as you say the BR scene is very tame nowadays....My sincere gratitude to you as always....Mark
Ditch the music. It really spoils your excellent video. John
Many thanks John...I only put the music on as the soundtrack was missing on the original and it did not seem right without any....Always appreciated and sincere wishes....Mark
