Please continue this series with a third tutorial how to use the sidestroke for water rescues. These are the advantages of the sidestroke for mission-oriented swims: (1) your head is always above water so your breathing is not interrupted and your eyes can keep observing what is far around you; (2) your trailing or top arm is free to hold something like a rope, flashlight, a weapon, a bag, or another person (the one that was rescued); (3) unlike most other strokes, none of the limbs break the water surface so they don't make a splash or noise that can attract attention if one is trying to be sneaky in the water.
We were also taught a modification of this side stroke, called the Over Arm Side Stroke, which brought the top arm out of the water in a front crawl motion, while everything else stayed the same. It was designed to give more power to the stroke.
Is the sidestroke a practical method to use while swimming in open water conditions like a lake, spring or ocean, where the surface of the water will not be flat and smooth?
I know this is old, but this is the method I use as it keeps your head above water and you can breath freely. Also allows you to keep an eye on the water around you and if you see a big wave that you know is going to pummel you it's easier to anticipate and dive under to avoid the drama. I dont know how other people feel about it but I prefer it for open water, especially beach type conditions.

日本泳法の水府流水術の一重伸下町泳ぎにとても似てますね。
一重伸下町泳ぎは、最も水に和する泳ぎだと思います。
