This is the first manga series I collected back in the 90’s! I still have my very old single issues of it that were colorized. I’ve been meaning to get the big box set….. maybe soon. I remember when Otomo finally finished it too…. Man, I couldn’t get my hands on a copy fast enough!
hot damn, I have read the manga around 10 times now, over the years and its one helluva joyride every single time. especially enjoy the world that get build up in your head while reading it. and your video makes me read it again now, thanks for that !
Glad you enjoyed it. I read it about a year ago and was really caught off guard by the amount of suspense I felt. No spoilers but a certain elevator ride, a freeing of a character from their prison, a assault on the ship and the helplessness they felt, the flexing of powers and unlimited potential when one person looked into another’s mind. Or tried to at the very least. Incredible atmosphere as well.

As a Japanese, I am very happy to see your passionate review of "AKIRA". I noticed after listening to your review that Kei (ケイ) and Kai (甲斐) are indeed confusing when written alphabetically (lol).
Imagine being an Akira fan prior to 2019, then irl Japan is picked to hold the Olympics in 2020, and everyone freaking out about corona-chan and the possibility of a WW3...😳
