Guide to cataclysm archeology, how to get zin'rokh or the staff of sorcerer-thane thaurissan

- IMPORTANT - READ ME BEFORE WATCHING!
Long story made short, the purpose of the video was to help people get more troll fragments to spend on getting the sword. At the time, this was useful, because once you leveled archeology high enough you would start having to go to vashj'ir to get fragments, resulting in massive time consumption. Nowadays this video serves mainly as historical novelty and is now vastly out of date, because blizzard A) Removed the vashj'ir nodes and B) added in a 200 fragment cap - specifically to block out my demonstrated method in this video. Ergo, the video is now useful only for people who want to know what you used to be able to do, not what you can do now.
This is my guide video for how to boost your odds at getting Zin'rokh the world destroyer / the staff of sorcerer-thane thaurissan, the 2h sword and one of the 2h staffs from archeology.
Archeology is essentially a profession centered around gambling. There is no guarantee that you will get any item you are after as everything is based off of drop chance, but there is a way to stack odds more into your favor, or eliminate / lessen the "house edge" of odds stacked against you. This video shows you how to boost your own odds.
YES, using this tactic will slow down the rate at which you gain skillups - atleast initially, but in return it will make leveling 450-525 extremely quick and increase the chances at which you will be able to get the item you want - be it the sword from troll or staff from dwarf (this same principle can be applied to night elf archeology, or any other rare you could possibly want as well.
The goal here is not to get to 525 as quickly as possible, it is to make your skillups count for more - you cannot get the epic weapons untill 450 and above (so says the general consensus on wowhead at present) so you will want your "important" skillups (ie, the ones tied into the race that drops the item you desire) to only be used after you can unlock the item you are after. - เกม
I bet when you made this video, you couldnt ever imagine people revisiting this video thirteen years later as we are re running the cata hamster wheel
Lleva 22.230 intentos a día de hoy y aún no lo ha conseguido, 13 años despues...
13 years later and this is still the best guide ever made for archeology thanks so much
best and most helpful guide for this occured 13years ago.
Good content man.
Thank you time traveling friend
I'm only 130 archaeology and since ive been getting a lot of night elf dig sites Ive been doing those, and I just got the rare druid and priest statue solve. Does this mean I have the same chance to get the rare troll sword solve at this archaeology level?
@JHgamer101 the way it works is the farmable archeology nodes will varry and will have a set number depending on the continent you are on and your archeology skill level. If you stay in the eastern kingdoms, you will get almost entirely dwarf, fossil, and troll digsites.
@zjbloom No, it's not off. You'll most likely want to get good items for the characters you level first. a 2h sword that you can give to your character that you are leveling RIGHT NOW holds much more value and priority than a 2h staff that you MIGHT give to your caster character in 4-6 months IF you get around to leveling him.
@Smarmory there is no character-level or class requirement for any of the items from archeology, barring that some nodes (like ones in uldum for tol'vir) may be a tad hard to get, since a level 75 dk would be fighting level 83 mobs. = P
@deadlyzin101 Nowadays, there's not much point in holding it at 450, since the vash archeology digsites were removed. However, after blizzard removed the vash archeology sites, they also placed a cap on the amount of fragments you can have at a given time - that cap being 200, so the "more rolls of the dice while leveling the profession" tactic is, while still do-able, less efficient.
Making a limit to 200 fragments is great motivation
@Mattherat203 No. odds don't ever really go "up", you just have to have passed a certain point to be able to get rares at all. Think of it like having to have a certain level to be able to loot a "This item begins a quest" type thing. In the case of the two example weapons, its 450. If you solve before 450, there is a zero chance to get them.
thanks, bro; lots of good information
Hmm I want the sword. I've done 245 troll finds found both of the other rates but not zin. Are there certain locations in the troll digging sites that help might boost your chance in getting it? I know it's a long shot
do you HAVE to be at max archeology in order for the sword to "appear" or can it randomly happen at any level of Archeology?
@MrLivinAngel Keystones are rare discoveries. you dig them up from archeology nodes, and they are a rare drop from all archeology nodes (respective to the type of the node).
Or, buy them off the AH. = )
fantastic video
Well after 2 years and having every item except the swords and the staff (The staff I wanted more fore the way it looks) I gave up on trying and got the Crystalfire Staff. Looks the same but has a different glow. Good luck to all of you trying to get either one.
Thanks helped a lot.
Really helpfull video. Thanks a lot. To bad i watched it after I used up all my dwarf fragments to skil.
I'm going to retire by the time I get this sword
Do the odds of getting an epic items increased when your archeology is at 525?
great vid m8 :)
You can't stack the fragments up like that anymore, right?
Maximum of 200?
to get the mount do i have to be 450 or i can get it at 200 or whats the range on it
lol dude thx u help me so much!thx
where can i get the troll tablets and what lvl do i have to be in archeology to be able to have a chance to get the epic weapon (troll)?
The best way to increase your odds is to do Archae as a dwarf for the bonus.
@belthazor3457 So theres no way i have a chance at getting this sword if im not 450?
I have 200 night elf and am horde, I’m only level 60 archaeology.. do I go to a new area until I hit 100?
@TheSaintsFromHell121 Simply put, this video, and others like it, got a little too popular on youtube and allowed more people to get phat lewt than blizzard wanted. So, a patch was released to make it so that this tactic - leveling archeology via hoarding the race you want, spending them to level once you have the minimum requirement to get the item you want) Was significantly less effective. While the tactic is still useable, it's not as effective now.
the digsites where i archeolagy are relative ? to get sword ?
@haggardjf You misinterprit the video. The guide shows people that they can get -more- chances -more- efficiently if they level in a certain manner, I never said that the droprate increases - just that you have more chances to roll the dice. Keep in mind, this guide was made back when, after you leveled archeology past a certain point, eastern kingdom nodes sent you into vashj'ir. YOUR logic is flawed, not mine. And no, you cannot get zin -at all- below 450, it has a ZERO percent droprate.
i just handed all my trolls in and i want the sword badly, i am at 525 now, so could i simply save them up until i have say 500-1000 then cash a couple in? or am i jjust gnna have to get lucky? i got lucky on the staff cashing all dwarves in so idk.
Sounds interesting.
@jonathan5435 it's incredibly important that you don't cash in the ones related to the item you are after untill after you have met the profession requirement for the given item. to get the staff or zin, you need 450 archeology... so any spent prior to that have zero chance of giving you either item.
im 525 skill long time ago and i try make the staff for my mage i farm dwraf, troll and fossil i put evry time rune stone i have ground to many frangent and i don't see the staff :( so what can i do?
@maxudd barring containers, which you will want to loot first, they are mostly vendor trash.
@pencilneckgeek216 apology accepted, but as LedoDreadlow pointed out, this guide is meant to be fully understandable by -anyone-, even someone whom is completely new to archeology. This requires me to go in-detail and results in a longer video, but the only people who suffer from that are people with, as you said, too short an attention span to watch the whole thing. Views and ratings are nice, but i did not make this video to pander to the masses. It's a guide, for anyone, thru and thru. = )
@outsider0100 no 450, no sword, unless it's been patched down recently, which I don't think it has been.
There is one problem with this theory! Since u will not spend any dwarf fragments or troll depending on what u want to get but rng with digsites r not also 100% sure and soon u will end up with 4 digsites that u were saving it and u will be forced to start spending your fragments on race that u need weapon from and use as lv up.
Where to farm the troll tablets etc ?
Did you manage to get the sword?
Can you Get both weapons
Thanks.
@AnthonyN77 I must agree. It was incredibly difficult pre-patch and instead of making the grind more reasonable they made it worse. I guess my guide and others like it got a tad too popular and the mighty blizzard decided it needed a buzzkill. >.
I know this is from 13 years ago, but how do you have over 200 saved up? It is only letting me save 200 fragments. Do I need to go buy an upgrade somewhere to hold more??
no, that was adjusted after some time. You could have more than 200 and blizz changed to 200 cap.
@Royberg Someone told me that you gotta look at like this. You have a less than 1& chance per solve. Seeing as how many ppl have done this and failed, Im gonna say less than 1%. If you get the sword, thats great, if you don't, thats ok too. The person who does the archy every once in a while will still have the same chance as gettting the sword as someone who as 100k fragments. The guy with 100k fragments does have better odds yes. But the odds don't change his % chance of getting it.
@Raamen123 after you said that, I went to wowhead to check if what you said was true. Wowhead's consensus didn't agree with your comment, nor did any WoW patch notes, which I also checked. I'm happy to add stuff into the video if it's proven wrong, but you did not give me any source for your info. If you don't give me a source for your info, I won't edit the video. Comment removed for malinformation. P.S. - where in the video did I talk about achievements anyway? O.o
why i can only collect 200 troll fragment pls help it is pissing me off
can i still get the sword? in the new patch 25/2/2011
@fobsternd you can still get it, to my knowledge.
I have that dam staff, but I have been digging since release of Cata for the "destroyer of World's"... Almost 360 troll common solves and I have yet to get it -.- And in order to get any sort of epic 359 weapon you must have 450 archaeology.
@mangenroi Yell at blizzard for having ridiculously low and unreasonable droprates / kidnap some of their developers?
Should i save all my solved Artifacts? Then i mean the common...
@LanPirate Oh I wanna see a proof of that, because I've seen confirms about it being minimum 450. Fossil raptor only requires 225 as far as I know and pet any skill lvl.
Yes. It'll take you a while though.
this is over 2 years old, there might have been some patches during that time...
@chaosblast20 It's something around a 1% dropchance ish. = (
I'm currently at 450/450 archaeology, can I still get zin? Or do i Have to train illustrious to increase cap to 525?
good question. I was gonna ask the same. Just notocing with a small delay of 13 years
hmm can u get the same solve more than once? if so than u could try infinitely and still never get it. Its like spinning a numbered wheel trying to get the number 5 (numbers representing the solve desired.) If u can only get each solve once than every time u spin the wheel u remove the number it lands on again and again intill ur left with only number 5... but if the solves u get CAN B OBTAINED REPEATEDLY than there is a possibility u could get it on ur next try or on ur 1 millionth try...
@MrDutchb0y More rolls of the dice = more opportunities to get the item.
HOW TO GET TROLL TABLETS??
@sexyitalian891 yes. I mentioned that.
I think u can only solve the common ones more that once . I have solved the same item about 10 times
Anyone else check your discord only to find no new messages/notifications?
so i need 450 2 get the sword im on 300
they nerfed it - blizzard didn't like people doing what my video showed so they removed the ability to do it. = /
I ground 10.000 Troll Fragments in 20 days, 8 hours a day and luckily that payed off
i've been archaeing daily since archaeology was introduced, no 2h so far
@Nemes1sXx Rares no, commons yes. I have tons of multiple common solves, you could quite literally do it for 5 months straight and get nothing. I gave up after a month of farming.
@pencilneckgeek216 Well, you already put your vote in, so why should I waste time replying? I suppose I'll reply anyway for the benefit of anyone who -isn't- you. There was other information relayed in this video - you may or may not have had the other information already, meaning a smaller ammount of the video held value to you, but that's part of the video being a GUIDE. Some of the information in the GUIDE may be information YOU PERSONALLY have already, but not everyone watching it does.
I had Zin'rokh at vanilla wow, most beautiful sword in history.
iv been farming for the zinrohk for 3 weeks non stop hardley even slept, this is reddiculous for a a sword, and from what iv learned only solving dwarf of troll artifacts doesnt work.. its simply random :/
105 troll solves and no Sword i have a feeling that ill be getting it soon but im an optimist
@belthazor3457 Unfortunatly theres no way to increase the chance of getting it. Only the odds... Less than 1% chance to drop each solve is still less than 1%. So it doesnt matter if theres a guy who has saved up 3 solves, or a guy who has saved up 100k solves. The guy with 100k solves has better odds, but its entirely possible after 100k artifacts he doesnt get it. In fact its possible someone could do this for the rest of their life and not get it, if this is all random.
I hate that they capped the fragments
Can i get it even tho im only level 75(Dk)
@LedoDreadlow This. Thanks.
Eastern kingdoms has more troll tablets than any other continent.
I am currently at 135 common troll artifacts solved, and 110 common dwarf and all 3 rare artifacts solved still no staff or sword. Gm told me it is a 1.6% drop rate that is not accumulative, you have been warned so prepare for a headache and aggravation or do not attempt this.
Zin Craaawwwwww. The crawfish destroyer.
Got Zin Rokh in 2 days, its all to do with luck. And you can't "boost" your odds, its all relative
@sgtXFACTOR Lol fail math. I did over 2k troll frags and over 2k dwarf frags and got nothing. And that was well after 525. Im well over 150 solves of each with nothing to show for it.
I did about 30 solves, already got the big sword and the fossil raptor, and some gnome pet. My skill is far less then 450.
@XristarasGamieste lol ok, doubt what you will. Do some research and you will find that to be accurate.
I lvled archaeology now 3 times and solved around 10000 fragments. No sword^^
i did what u said i saved up 2k troll fragments and at 450 i still didnt get it i got so pissed o well lol
i feel like a moron for not holding back on making troll artifact solves until 525 skill...even still there are no guarantees
450 or above.
2024.
@belthazor3457 Alright, thanks for the info :3 just hit 450 arch and im hoping to get this on my warrior
Took me 8 hours to be able to craft zin rokh
hey do u mind explaining how? i cant find any recent updates on this.. everything is really old. do we still need to get it from a solve or can we just craft it? TY
2,014 fragments and 78 solves .... no sword D=
@LanPirate Just to add that you ain't able to get the sword before 450. Which leans to my statement of that you're lying just to get attention ;9
This sword is one of the main reasons I quit playing wow.
1800 fragments and nothing, im soo fucking pissed
well solved troll stuff up 2 525 and still dosent got it ;I this proffesion wasent supposed to be an grindfest!
I hate this cap, it's like saying a museum can only have 100 artifacts, it's ridiculous, I know half of the people that get archaeology do it just to get zin'rokh. I think there should BE a cap, but really at 200?? I say like 1.5 or 2k fragments.
Idek how I got it... But I have it and I just found out that it was rare
OK, so you are not saying anything but that it is all luck. Well, that's 8 minutes I will never get back.
@belthazor3457 kk sorry
