  • I think it is a great idea to go and learn English at the gas station!
This morning I noticed my van needed gas, so I thought I would make an English lesson to help you learn English at the gas station. It was a lot of fun, and I hope this video will help people learn all of the English words you would need to buy gas. Enjoy!

    ✅ PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT:
Bob the Canadian here. Let’s learn English …. at the gas station!
Hey Bob the Canadian here, if this is your first time watching these video please click the subscribe button below, and if you could at some point during this video give me a thumbs up that would be awesome.
So I noticed when I got in my van today that I was out of gas, or almost out of gas. The gas gauge, the little dial that tells me how much gas I have left, was pretty low. In English we would describe this as, “Running out of gas.” We also describe it as, “Running on empty.” Yeah, you could say I was running on empty which means there’s just a tiny amount of gas left.
I think I have enough gas to get to the gas station so that I can fill up my gas tank in my van. Hopefully I make it there.
So a few sentences in English to describe this, you would say, “I need gas.” “My car needs gas.” or “My van needs gas.” “I need to fill up with gas.” “I need to fill up my gas tank.”
So one of the first things to look for is the price of gas, and generally there’s a nice sign on the road outside of a gas station which will let you know how much gas is going to cost. At this gas station gas is currently $1.20 per litre. That’s actually not too bad for right now, so let’s go fill up.
At the gas station you’re going to find gas pumps. Gas pumps generally pump three different kinds of gas, but they also pump diesel. Diesel is generally used for things like trucks and tractors. My particular van uses gas so we’re just going to fill this van up with gas.
So one of the first things I need to do is I need to open up this little door and take off my gas cap. This is the gas cap. Then once I’ve got the gas cap off on the gas pump I need to select what type of gas I want to purchase. So I’m gonna take the gas nozzle out. It’s attached to the gas hose or just the hose and we’re just gonna put that into my vehicle, let me give you a look at that, so I’m ready to pump, I have my hand on the nozzle and I’m going to go here and I’m gonna select this grade of gasoline which is the lowest grade ‘cuz that’s all Bob the Canadian can afford.

I know this video is not about phrasal verbs, but anyway, here's the list of some of them which I found in the video:
    Get in (my van)
    Run out (of gas)
    Run on empty
    Fill up (my gas tank)
    Look for
    Open up (this little door)
    Take off (my gas cap)
    Take (the gas nozzle) out
(How many litres are going to) Go in
    (The numbers) going up
(A gas attendant will) come out
    Put ($20 worth) in
    Take out (the gas nozzle)
Put (my gas cap back) on
    (When I) pulled in
    Pump up (your tires)
    Thanks, Bob!

@@LearnEnglishwithBobtheCanadian Hi, Bob. Why native speakers use "up" after verbs so frequently? For example, Open up (this little door). I would say open this little door , and I would say fill my gas tank, rather than fill up my gas tank. Is there any difference in meanings? In which circumstance i should use UP after verbs? Why it's PULL IN(the store) , not pull into(the store)? These are the questions that I found when i tried to repeat what you say in this video. Thanks . Bob!

I guess it must be too similar the way it works in Canada from the US. Except in the US it's in gallons as far as I know. And in my home country Venezuela, it is in liters just like you described in Canada. Well thanks again. Nice to watch and improve my English learning new vocabulary and new things with your videos

I've never seen a video with so much likes and only one single dislike, this says it all, about how genuine and great the teacher is.

I wonder why somebody else didn't come up with this kind of teaching video before? Because it's a genius one! The real life situations with explanations in English help me to remember new words and phrases much easier. Thanks a lot! I'm looking forward for new videos on this channel.
