- It's been announced the #jordan1 Low 85 Neutral Gray will release next month in October at $170. This is a jump from the $140 the non 85 cut released at for the Black Toe this summer. Is this too steep of a price for you for a #jordan 1 Low #sneaker or are you very much willing to pay it for the true 85 cute?

That quite a jump in price. Vans recently announced price downs to pre-Covid levels on their classic line shoes.
Vans stays affordable and it's one reason why they're deeply respected
Yeah, I thought that price was crazy seeing as though I just paid $140 for the black toe. But, to each its own. I'll go for them since I missed out on the original release 2 years ago and this will be cheaper than paying resell for the 2021 release.
I can see that last line being the reason people pay $170, if it's cheaper than the bullet of resale
The 85 cut for the highs had a $30 markup as well to $200 (yes I know regular OG HI’s are now $180 but we’re $170 a year ago).
And many walked away from those because of that too.
TJ unrelated but I know you like the Vans Knu Skool shoe but I think you might find the New Balance 480 better. The Reynolds colorway dropped and is sitting some places but best part is the shoe is $100. Materials are great and if your looking for a brown shoe with similar SB dunk looks for under the price of a dunk or Jordan these are amazing.
No plans to pick those up, but appreciate it
I had this thought recently and that is "how long before a regular Gr Jordan is 300?" I feel like we never see price decreases in product and brands only increase the prices. I believe if prices for shoes keeps going up this may leave room for unknown brands to come come in and create product at a lower price point for about the same value in tech and materials.
It could but to overcome the marketing machine that is Nike and in turn Jordan is almost impossible
New Balance blows them away with similar prices and amazing materials and comfortable on top of it
I've been waiting for these but I admit, that retail price is really high. I think I'd like to see some early looks on them first before deciding especially from WearTesters. I know Chris from WearTesters has said that Nike has been tweaking the 85 (high) cut to closely resemble the 85 shape as much as possible with each release. At $170, that leather better be noticeably better than other Jordan 1 Lows and OG Lows, and that shape better be as close to the original as possible.
Yeah I agree, and if Chris is able to get his hands on a pair early, that would be one of the most unbiased sources to look for feedback! His videos always deliver!!!
I recently received an email that I had member access to create a Nike ID dunk and it is now $160! I created one a few months ago for $130! I have the feeling that Nike is passing the “Memphis heists “ on to the consumer. I know that this typically happens in department stores, but “inflation” is also a driver, and the costs on certain merchandise increase. That’s what I think but could be wrong.
I think they always intended to charge more and why not? Resale market has proven to Nike they can squeeze more out of retail since people think paying $30 over retail is a steal if they take an L.

Dunk Unlocked By You ( more patterns, material and asymmetric color choices) is $170.
Sneakerheads can be weird, they dont mind paying over the price from resellers but complain that Nike and other companies are putting there prices up, i know theyll call it corporate greed etc but I'd rather give to a company than some kid that's finessing me and set there own random prices

I think nike realized bumping these up 20 means the real buyers get em because they paid resale anyways and also cut out all these resellers sitting on 200 pairs to make $20 over retail on all of them.
I'd pay 175 resale on these do I'm gonna get from nike for thst and not have to cross my fingers to hit a raffle for sure.
Gotta remember everyone doesn't pay resale. I know many people who never pay resale, it's retail or nothing. Most consumers don't pay resale. If they did resale would be a larger market than retail and it's not. Therefore if the base price is going up, the majority of consumers will be affected more than resale buyers.
@@TalksWithTJ that's a good point, didn't look at like that, but guess I prefer knowing I'm paying an extra £20 to Nike than an unknown ££ to strangers, but I'm with you I've not been buying from resellers for a little while just not worth it

Great-looking AJ1s, might have the potential to outshine the Black Toes, but that’s just my opinion. Still love those red and black and white jays. I think we’re finally feeling the adverse effect of the resale market that’s why Nike keeps raising their SRPs. Either way, consumers lose, and resellers and big corporations win.

Appreciate it and you nailed it on the head what I was thinking and have responded in some comments, Nike saw we will pay more so why not raise the floor and secure a higher margin.
I turned my neutral grey lows in to beaters and theyre just tooo beat now so have to reup for a crispy pair. but so unfortunate its gonna feel real bad copping them lol

Super clean (but basic) and I get its an OG color way from 85 in true 85 specs but its going to have to take one of the metallics in that 85 OG low cut to pay $170.
I thought I saw a Metallic low on the way but I could be wrong
I was a sucker and bought a pair BUT I have slowed down on my shoe collection picking and choosing more diligently AND these will go with everything ❤

Don’t think I should be paying 170.00 for a low. Nike doesn’t even spend half that to make the shoe. How can they justify any of this? Crazy!
No brand spends their MSRP or half of it to make a product. We all know this and they can probably justify it because people think a $30 markup after retail is a resale steal
Totally passing on these as I have the OG neutral grey low still deadstock and if I didn’t I still would not pay $170

I think the quality will likely be there but I think they messed up showing us they can give great quality at $140.

There is no way I'm paying 170. There is no way. They aren't worth it. We all know they're not worth it. A bigger swoosh isn't worth 30 bucks more. Ridiculous. But hey, people will buy it because we're all drones and until we stop paying for these they will keep doing this to us. I expect them to be 200 at some point. And guess what? Folks will still buy them.
I'll be interested to see if people feel the $170 is sufficient value for them retail. Could consumers send a message on all higher prices? We could but like you said, that won't happen.
The 85 cut is not the same as the regular Jordan 1 low so wouldn’t compare them. The 85 is more premium, overall better quality and is closest to the original shell
No one said it was the same cut, the discussion is over the price in relation to something that already readily and accessible dropped.

I really wish the brand would make the low OG shape from 2015 only and charge us $130/140. They have three (actually four) different lows. 1. The cheapest and worst shape (my opinion) for $100
2. The 2015 shape reserved ONLY for special projects like Travis Scott lows
3. The new OG shape started in 2021 (neutral greys, recent black toes)
4. The new old new OG 85 lows that will debut soon.

Moving away from Gr Aj1s to 85 cut highs and lows. It’s a steep retail price yet I think it would be worth it as all other aj1 gr prices are heading that way. Ppl slept on 85 high black white because the retail was high in January 2023 and same for Spider-Man high 2.0 well nike is now charging that same price for all aj1 highs. I say just be selective and it’s not affordable to double up as much as before. Lucky to get 85 black white high X 3 at retail in my size so waiting for 85 chicago highs
I think we have to remember, especially in this time, someone not buying a shoe doesn't mean they are sleeping, they can not want the shoe, not think the value is also there for how little they would wear they shoe. People in sneakers are inherently stuck on sleeping when it's usually not people underestimating how good (also subjective) a shoe may be

1. New/modern sneakerheads don’t seem to understand WHY 85 retros are $20-$30 more expensive.
The reason why they are more expensive is due to the construction and materials. You’re getting thicker leather, a board lasted shoe, and thick polyurethane insole. Compare that to the thin, soft leathers of retro 1s that have a floppy, cheap insole and it’s a world of difference.
Plus, it’s $30. How does an extra $30 for a shoe that only releases once a year that bad? Don’t get fast food twice a month and there’s your extra $30.
2. Those big swoosh 1 lows aren’t OG. They’re just older versions that have the correct swoosh and 8 eyelets. Those are the closest 1 OG Low Nike has given us before completely screwing it up.
85s over all of these lifestyle Jordan 1s. Zero point in getting the 2021 Neutral Grey lows when the 2015 and the new 85 cuts are far superior in shape alone.
NO people are well aware of the shoe being a little more in design, most on this channel are above 25 years ago lol we simply still don't see the value in $170 for an 85 cut just because it's that....it's proof they can surely do better on other drops they're charging $170 on and don't...

They're well aware, they're still firm on not wanting to pay $170 for a Jordan 1 Low that isn't a collab, simply a different shape. The same with people who will have an issue with a $215 military blue Jordan 4 with no updated tech, just what we've always seen
