    For anyone with a Micron (and for John!), if you want to open up the filter cartridge, just jam a small flathead screwdriver by the two notches on one side of the cartridge container and the back will pop right out. I filled it up with some Siporax Mini from my previous filter.

      I had a 20 gallon that failed due to white spot disease. The only survivors were 5 shrimp 2 of which died due to stress of moving to a small plastic container and two others died because I didn’t have a small enough filter. (I used the 20 gallon one and one shrimp got into the filter and the other got in but died from stress) I now have a single survivor. I am trying a 5 gallon because I seem to be good at shrimp and it allows for trying fish again in the future.

      Did the preset heater have an automatic turn off? There are many preset ones that don't making them rather useless if you live somewhere that gets high temperatures in summer. You're better off with ones where you can ajust the temperatures and with an auto shut off. I can't really recommend a brand as I live in Australia and we have many brands that are different to people on the states, but if you read the box you'll find all the information you need.

I,ve got 2 questions . i,m wanting to have some plants that will be planted directly into the substrate on one half of the tank and plants on the other half wont need wont need the special first layer of substrate . How much should i buy of the good stuff for the planted half ?and secondly my nano tank has got a standard plastic lid on it, what light do you suggest ? because the lights that attatch to the walls of the tank wont really work , I don't think unless i cut it up a bit .I don.t know what it is in inches but the tank dimensions in mm are L450 W200 H250 . My idea of a nano tank is, with the exception of my clean up team, everything in my 90 gallon planted tank is all my fish are nano, less than 2cm in size. With such a small bio load and the low tech plants doing most of the filtering the tank takes care of itself most of the time. Regular water checks, water top ups and 30% water change once a month. Happy fish, happy me. 🤓

    I’ve just gotten into fish keeping and have 3 angelfish in a 140L (40? gallon) tank, but I’ve got a question;
    The smallest of the 3 is pretty aggressive to the other 2, they’re too young to breed (at least their ‘tubes’ aren’t visible), I’ve made sure to balance the right amount of food so they don’t have to compete, and not over feeding as there’s nothing left after 2-3 mins. As far as I’m aware and from what I’ve read the tank is an appropriate size for the 3 of them aswell
    Is there anything else I could be doing to try to curb his aggression? Or is it possible that the fish is just a d*ck?
    The other 2 fish don’t seem to overly mind, as he’s quite a bit smaller than them, but I wouldn’t want them to be quietly stressing out

  • @ShaneZettelmier
    @ShaneZettelmier 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hate that they preset them with only one setting, I keep my tanks at about 73° to 74°, I make sure I don’t have anything that’s real picky about that heat but tetras and guppies and shrimp and snails and all of my plants do fine with it.
    I think the stickers are cool, if you’ve got plants back there that will hide it that much more or stones, same thing, especially if I was laying it horizontally near the bottom. I’ve got a big stack of black rocks for the shrimp and that one sticker would actually go really well with it. 😂😂
    Especially for nano tanks, I can’t believe somebody hasn’t invented an all in one, a tiny filter like that with an integrated heater. Just a tiny heater with a little sponge filter and pump on it, or even air powered.

    After the grief of losing pet after pet, I decided I would get a Betta for my desk. I figured if I lost the poor fish I wouldn’t be a broken man like I have experienced in the past. So ... meaning I am a beginner and having fun diving through all the info. But I have a bit of frustration too. I have 3 concerns around filters for a small (5.3 gallon) aquarium. 1) it should be fully submersible - 2) it should not create strong currents in the small space that would be detrimental to a Betta - 3) it should be quiet. I can find filters that fulfill one or two of the requirements. I’m looking for suggestions from the experts or the community at large. Thanks!

    I've spent countless hours researching to find a small quiet filter for my new Betta Sheldon. I'm having the same issue as Goldilocks... Either the filters too big, too strong, not strong enough or killed their Betta and some were even electrocuted. I've just been doing partial water changes, but really want a filter. I went from a Fluval Chi 5 gallon to a 3 gallon cube I love, but with no filter or lid I'm now thinking about the Marineland 5 gallon. Any thoughts?

    I wish I could see this filter in action to make my own judgment on the adjustable flow.

    I have a 55 gallon and I’m thinking of getting another tank, I can’t decide between 3 5 gallons, maybe 2 10 gallons or one 20-30 gallon, but I want to aquascape the tank. What should I do?

    Nano tanks have always been my thing. Years back when I was super active at Nano-Reef, we considered anything under 40 gallons to be nano (I believe). Then I think 5 and under was pico. I've just never been a big tank person. I do own a 75 gallon, I've had it for years, but it's never seen water. My plan is to finally set that one up next year after our big move.

      Nano for saltwater is usually a bit bigger. When i was setting up a saltwater tank i was told anything under a 55 is on the small side and even a 55 is pushing it. I didnt listen and had a 30 and 40 gallon. No 10 gallons though.

      @@naturesfinest2408 Hmm. In the nano enthusiast community we based it off of Albert Thiel's work, one of the people who pioneered the reef keeping hobby and was a founder and active member of the Nano-Reef site until he passed away.

    Now thirsty for saltwater 😎

      I get the feeling a lot of people joined in because of the rona. For me it was the plants and shrimp.

    I know this comment is super late but im just looking for some help. I was wondering if I could get away with the 10 watt heater in my 5 gal or should i use the 20 watt? And do you know the best place where I can purchase one? Thanks

    I want to know about how the noise affects the fish. I bought a nano tank for my desk and the pump it came with is so loud. I'm wondering if my fish has a headache because I feel like I would have one!

    How many years have you been using these? I know they're popular in Europe and have been sold in the US since the mid 90s but how long have you been using these on your aquariums

    I’d buy a small thermostat for the preset heaters just incase of slight runaway to avoid over heating

    i have a 15 gallon fluval flex which has a good filter built in and a space for the heater. Both are hiden from sight so it is great.
    And I have a 4 gallon biorb which I think isn't the best filter in the world. I have a betta in there ... no heater 🥴

    I was thinking of saying "something smart" like-
    Oh, just go cold water.
    Oh, just do a half-tank Anoxic Zone.
    Oh, just stock Air-Breathing Fish.
    ..............internal voice said,
    "Dude, shut the fxxk up!.
    There's nothing wrong with anything here, not a dam thing, don't be so cynical all the time."

    Not a fan of the preset heater. In case of ick treatment where you need higher temps or for stock that prefers colder temps like shrimp it wouldn't allow the flexibility

    dang... i thought i finally had a decent sized tank... picked up my first tank's in a long time this weekend because I could not just get one lol. got me a 16 gallon bowfront on a stand and a 10 gallon to go on top of my dresser, its been over 10 years since ive had a tank and that was just a 5 gallon tank we had as kids but we had it for about 13 years before the last of our fish passed away and the tank had a small leak.

    I just set up a whole new 3.5 g betta tank and put the 10w Aqueon heater in it. The 48hrs waters were anywhere between 78-82 degrees which is fair to me, but the next day I notice it has gotten to 88 degrees in my tank by the heater and 84 farthest away. This was a brand new heater from petco and I have read other reviews of similar issues. Is my heater bad?
