I’m from Southern California and I’m planning to move back in May. I currently live in Dallas. It hurts me to see my home state burning 😭. Prayers please for everyone involved. Thank you all firefighters and all first responders and firefighters from Canada and other states across the country. Big Thank you to all who are donating and volunteers helping all those impacted ❤.
I've been to Bar Harbor twice on cruise ships. The crowds were very manageable in the town and on the excursion to Acadia Park. The store employees were delighted with having our business. They were pleasant and friendly. Very helpful and appreciative. It was a great port and it's a shame they don't want cruise ships. Oh well, I'm sure some other places will welcome our business!
Ilive 45 minutes from Bar Harbor and stayed there many summers in our camper. Bar Harbor is overwhelmed all summer without cruise ships. I am in support of cruise ships coming to Bar Harbor but it is a very busy town without them. @maggiegarber246
Hi 👋 Don. Are any of the cruise lines thinking of using any of their ship for the people who have lost their homes??? I’m sure they would be highly praised for helping with temporary housing for these communities that have been wiped out. Have a good day!
Thank you for being the only TH-camr to mention the horrible devastation in Los Angeles. I'm shocked no other of my favorite TH-camrs have even mentioned this. Kinda surprised and sad. These fires are impacting a heck of a lot more than cruising!
Our Prayers go out to the people of California. That was great Princess did that for them. I think all the cruise lines out there should do that. I wonder if those two guests who got Legionnaires disease, we're staying in a suit. You did a story on that a few months back.
Wednesday, we disembarked the Oceania, Nautica and drove thru the smoke from multiple fires in the LA area. Hafe way thru our Panama cruise, Captain announced Norovirus, and there would be No Charge for the Medics to test you. Never heard how many, but did notice a few passengers missing on the rest of the cruise.
Thanks Don for caring for us here in The Las Angeles area. It’s really sad my niece works at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the other day when she was driving home to Orange County she couldn’t see much because of the smoke and traffic was terrible with people trying to leave. As she was driving home she got a message from the hospital saying not to come in for a few days because they wanted to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles and to return to work on Monday. The Hotels around Disneyland are all booked up with people who lost their homes in the fires. Hollywood Blvd had business that burned to the ground. The Rams and Vikings playoff game has been moved to Arizona. I could go on and on but with a lot of support from Biden who just happened to be here in LA when the fires started to celebrities donated money to help everyone out is a blessing in such a real difficult time as of right now the esteemed damages is $650 billion dollars
My mom is OR manager at Children’s. They had to cancel elective surgeries because a lot of people couldn’t make it in to work. We are between Eaton and Hurst. We evacuated down to San Diego for 3 days. We are home now and are fortunate not to have lost anything. 🙏🙏
@ We may of not lost our homes in the fires but the last I heard some 70,000 homes and several businesses were destroyed and that is just heart breaking. Everyone seems to be pulling together in this difficult time to help keep everyone strong. This is the time for Americans to work together to help rebuild just like if we had a major earthquake or if we were in Florida and lost everything in a hurricane. Los Angeles will recover but it will take a lot of work and with the help they should receive will help heal the wounds Los Angeles has suffered.
@ there has been a lot of hate from around the country about the politics of California. US would be in serious trouble without us. Everyone here has been wonderful. We evacuated and took the train to San Diego. They Wyndham Bayside was beyond helpful. A discounted room and food vouchers for me and the kids. I was fine to pay. But that was really helpful during a stressful time 🙏🙏
@@Keep-on-ok there are so many different schools across the country there are always kids. The last cruise we took on Princess was in Japan. I took my husband because he had never been and I work there once a year. We went early on an 8 day cruise and he loved it! Took only private tours by locals. He really had a fantastic time. And I had an extra pair of hands to help set up my booth for the big Trade Show my company does. He was very impressed with my Japanese language skills I have.
For all the ‘back and forth’ in Bar Harbor, I vote for just skipping Bar Harbor! Way even ‘plan’ for something that could change? Understand weather changes but economic changes say ‘skip’ them.
I agree with you. However, the US government didn't want to help the cruise lines during the pandemic (because they weren't US flagged ships). Why should they help?
When cruise ships are used for displaced people, it's usually the smaller companies who help. During the pandemic when Australia was locked down, Australian company Travelmarvel made new river ships in Europe available to Ukrainian women needing housing. I'd love to see the efforts of those companies who help out promoted to encourage the bigger companies to jump onboard.
I hope the trend goes back to smaller ships. I loved the ships that had about 1500 people or a little less. Went on several HAI ships of that size. It was lovely
The irony of a region abutting an ocean of water, with little resources for the brave firefighters. So sad. God bless…..Yay Disney! Small ship lovers applaud.
RCL and Carnival should charter to California and Los Angles two or three very large ships that will remain in port, to temporarily house displaced fire victims. Provide hotel like accommodations and provide food at their cost.
Very strange to get such tiny amounts of Legionnaires disease off a cruise ship when you consider the amount of people on board and the amount of water being used. I guess the bacteria could have just been in one shower head but the chance of that is tiny. You would surely expect that the numbers would be far higher.
Bar harbor has more money that you could imagine. I have family with rentals there getting $12,000/week and they are fully booked.assive dollars in bar harbor
If they don't want tours of money and I I'm not welcome, then I will avoid any itinerary with that stop. Plain and simple. Go where your appreciated not tolerated
@stevemorris6790 money isn't everything, but when there's tourism and that is a way to make a livelihood it does make a difference. If they want to hide behind the religion of weather, then they will have to understand the consequences.
On Los Angeles issue : airport and sea port may be functioning, but about 150,000 have been evacuated and likely wanting to occupy any/all hotel rooms available. Now would be a good time to land 2 hours before the ship leaves so you don't need a hotel. Ask the pilot to droop you off at western edge of runway, hop over the fence and get o the beach bike path heading south to the port to avoid any mayhem in city 🙂 BTW, they are now recommending wearing masks when outdoors because of bad air quality and lots of particulates in the air and not to do any exercises outdoors.
Thank you they're building smaller ships. They should never had gotten ride of the smaller ships for the bigger ones and now reverting back. I love the smaller ships. I have been on the large ships and prefer the smaller ones because I do not go on the water activities or do some of the other stuff. Give me shows, comedy, good food and service and I'm good. All of the lines need to build smaller ships and cabins for solo cruisers.
Boy A cruise company strong arming a municipality is really distasteful. The thought of burying the good people of Bar Harbor with law suits is enough to keep me from ever sailing on their line. @@davidmunn4418 The town is defending itself and citizen-passed, and upheld, initiative to limit against businesses suing. CLIA held back from the original suit, but filed a brief in the appeal. Then local cruise industry supporters use the cost of litigation for the community as a reason to not pass a citizen limit.
If they want to limit the ships so much, I say screw it. ALL ships should avoid that port for a year and see how they handle missing out on all those tourist dollars and port fees. They’ll probably come crawling back asking for cruise ships again.
If Bar Harbour told the cruise lines to go away, why don't they go away? Talk about being disrespectful to a community. These cruise lines are being coming to big for their own good and do not care about anyone but themselves.

I believe some business owners in Bar Harbor are suing against this limit because it will hurt their businesses. I can see limiting passenger numbers, but 1000 per day really stops all but small luxury ships from visiting.
Right now there are aboout 10,000 destroyed homes but 150,000 evacuated. There is no official census of destroyed homes yet. Like in many cases, it seems like in Bar Harbor it's the lawyers representing both sides that are benefitting the most...
I think Bar Harbor wants only the elite class visiting the city.😢
Elite, and mostly white. Bar Harbor's proposed restrictions resemble those that cities enacted to limit the influx of minorities.
They want people to arrive at a scale that is in harmony with their community. It isn't about "class", it is about volume.
Disney is very expensive to sail on in australia.
I remember the "Big red boat"
