  • When Fairbanks Morse introduced the Train Master H24-66 it was ahead of its time and most railroads didn't know how it fit in. When most diesel engines of the time had a max of 1500HP and 4 axles, the Train Master had 2400HP and with 6 axles producing more tractive force.
In this video I have two FM H24-66 lashed up adding up to 4800HP pulling a small freight consist. This lash up would not have been a common sight during the era, they were usually solo.
Both Lionel FM Train Masters in the video are from the 2014 Volume 2 catalog. I bought both of them slightly used but in perfect condition.
When I was a kid I used to see these heading the San Francisco to San Jose Peninsula Commuter Trains.
Here are the number conversions for 4803 and 4809:
#4803 - Built for NYC 12/53 but diverted to SP as #4803 and then renumbered to 3023 for passenger service on the San Francisco Peninsula commuter.
#4809 - Built for SP as #4809 and the renumbered #3029 for passenger service on the San Francisco Peninsula commuter.
