I know that one. My daughter got a very sick foster newborn a few years after I was widowed, and his care required my homeopathic and nutritional expertise. Having Purpose is very needed. He's 6 now. Praise God!
In England there was a study done a year or so ago - and documented for television - taking children under five into nursing homes where many wonderful friendships were soon formed between the children and the elderly. Medically it turned out to be very physically healthy for the old folks as they were energized by the kids, and mentally the children benefitted from the special interest taken in them. Win/Win. Need more of these kinds of programs for sure!
This reminds me a lot of a neighbour I used to have as a very young kid. She was in her 90s and had no family that lived near her, and while I don’t remember how it happened exactly, me and her became really close friends despite our age difference and she was also like the grandmother I never had as I lived in a very toxic family and only met my grandparents a handful of times. I used to bring her flowers and rocks from my backyard as a gift and in the summers I would go swimming in her pool and she would always bake cookies and bring me lemonade. I also used to help her clean her house and do other chores like walking her dog. She was always there for me when my parents fought and when I was having problems at school. She was an amazing woman and I’ve never met anyone as caring and loving as she was all these years later. She sadly passed away exactly one week before my 10th birthday but I will never forget her. It is wonderful that Mary & Benjamin have each other. ❤❤
My boys have a relationship with our neighbor, who's in her 90s. She used to bake for them every week until she got sick. She still does but not as often. Every time they see her in the yard, they be yelling out to her. She's hard of hearing so u know how that goes. She puts their photos on her fridge and tell her company those are her grandsons.
What a great friendship they have. This lil boy has no idea that he is making this lady's final years so much happier and full of love. I bet you her health hasnt even declined since he was born. Kids give the elderly strength and youth. It's why I love intergenerational daycares and activities

That is a beautiful story about love and friendship! They both needed each other. I wasn't allowed to have friends as a child so I sought out the elderly neighbors around me. They taught me cards, dominos, music, current events, etc... They shared their life stories and listened to mine. They bought me school supplies and shoes. I had the kindest man next door to me growing up on the east side of San Antonio, Papa Swann. We had tea together outside with my little tea set at my tiny table and chairs. Loved him so much.
We had an elderly person in our neighborhood that was everyone's grandma. She was so sweet and everyone loved her. My grandfather, on the other hand, was evil to his core. No child should have been anywhere near him. We have to remember that just being old doesn't make someone good
What a sweet lady. I wish that one of her grandchildren lived around her. At her age, someone should be near. She is such a sweet lady. I would want to spend as much time with her as possible. They are blessed to have her healthy at that age. My grandmas are gone, and I teared up watching it. She reminded me in different ways of both of them.
It takes a village, even those who are not related to a kid. My kids had a great gma, a great, great aunt , and a great great uncle in their lives for some time. And the love between them was beautiful to witness. They are gone now, but my kids still have those memories.
I'm crying too! Such a sweet little friendship for both, the little boy and the elderly lady. They have the sweetest and caring hearts. This was no accident, but a planned arrangement by God.

Ice cream and cake. We paid for it all with no help from adults. For us boys he was our hero. We all wanted to grow up to be like him. Sadly I left to go to war, and he died while I was away. He was 97 when he passed. I've stood at his grave on June 28th , and I cried like a baby.
I hope this friendship is still going strong. Such a lovely heartwarming story. It made me cry. I love how she has pictures of the children. It shows how much she cares for them and also how much the parents care to give her photos of their children.
"Friends are the family that you make for yourself." None of my grandparents or other extended family lived near our family until one grandmother briefly lived three miles away. So I adopted a grandmother from our village church. She taught me what I call "the friendship habit". Written on a figurine above her kitchen sink were these words: "Make new friends. Keep the old. So wonderful. My Mother has always been a warm sunny woman and doesn't know a stranger. In her neighborhood, when my own family needed to stay with my parents for awhile, we would walk with her around, and literally everyone she saw knew her and exchanged greetings.

I love this story. My mother will be 90 soon and she makes over little people, she calls them, and even plays with the neighbor cat since she lost her little dog. These relationships are precious to elderly people. So good of the young parents to see that Miss Mary and Benjamin need each other.

My neighbour is an 83 year old gentleman who served in the air force and was a commercial pilot. He manages alone after his wife died of Alzheimer's disease after 55 years of marriage. I wish I had his strength.
