The fact you mentioned it still being similar to One World makes me want to continue to wait till more is shown on this game. It looks nicer but some features I've never been a fan of.

I really like that natsume listened to fans about there not being any video footage of the game. It’s good that we’re able to see the product they’re selling. I’m not sure if I’ll be picking up this game or not. There’s a bunch of farming games that are releasing around the same time that I’m more excited for.
It does seem like Natsume is trying and there are many improvements from their past games, but I'm still reserving my excitement and will keep an eye on reviews. I've been burned too many times by them before lol. As someone who loves customization in these games, I'm disappointed by gender locked outfits, restricted customization, and a standard look for a child no matter who you marry. I also think it's a bit odd they invited Josh to watch THEM play, rather than letting Josh play certain approved areas. It would be great if it turns out to actually be a good game that lots of people enjoy though, even if it's not suited to my tastes.
I got burned HARD on One World ( terrible game) . It constantly crashed. it was obviously a cash grab b/c pioneers of olive town was out or on it's way out. Not getting burned by natsume again. Thanks so much for a great preview video. You are awesome!

There are a lot of little things that are turning me off to the game. Every house in town is identical. That just feels lazy. If you are going to cookie cutter the town, at least make the houses different colors. The ribbon clips through the FC's hair. If I am playing a game where I'm mostly looking at the back of my character's head, put some effort into making it look nice. Those lag spikes on switch were concerning, especially for a game that looks so empty. You were right when you said the movement of the animals feels very clunky. When we've got so many games to choose from in the next couple of months, you need to make something that looks great and looks like it runs great to get my money over other games being offered.
At least it's start of great improvement from natsume. Unlike marvelous that just reuse old title both in story of season and RF and tbh i kind of sceptical with RF 6 because RF 5 and sos Olive town suffer the same flaw of the world feels bland and empty
It's an ok looking game at best. I probably will buy it but I'm not sure if I will enjoy it. There are many things I didn't like: - can't change hairstyle (c'mon, most games have this, why not the newest too?) - world is big but still empty, outside of the towns there are only a few wild animals and wisps, that's it - framerate for switch seems ok but AWL handled it way better - all kids look the same, that's just a little sad cause many games already had this feature Things I actually liked/ found interesting: - huge variety of pets, I mean a raptor, tiger and camel?? (I also love the cute little birds!) That's so cool! - weather-dependent clothing is a really cool idea! It makes so much sense - auto feeder for your animals, this is a nice qol feature

Agreed. Especially, since a lot of things already drain stamina in the game normally. Unless the stamina bar has been adjust to account for using running for stamina depletion, it's basically draining more stamina faster and making the game longer (and, possibly unbearable).
Man, there are still problems I can already see that Natsume still hasn't improved upon. Being a super nintendo Harvest Moon player until now, Natsume should play Stardew Valley as a master class for QoL fixes and to eliminate inorganic game lengtheners (Such as repetitive animations like slow harvesting crops and petting animals) that can't be sped up with skill or upgrades. I was glad to see the feeder option that fills the troughs. The older I get, the more I respect a game that respects my time, and sadly I feel this game won't be doing that.
I agree. I have issues with the gameplay already from this clip. I like games that trade really slow mechanics for fun once you progress and have more things to fill your day with.

(This comment isn't directed at the devs I'm sure they are doing their best) Natusme thought they could take the name Harvest Moon and put out their own garbage, low-budget, shovelware games back in the DS days, hoping nostalgia and lack of competition would drive sales. However, unlike back in those days we have so many options for farming and cozy games, they were forced to raise the quality, and even then this game looks like it could be a decent indie game. Indie devs with smaller budgets and teams, are pushing the mechanics, features, and aesthetics, much further than what this game does.
Since there is only one hairstyle, they really need to fix the hair clipping into the female character model during the run cycle... That is really unpolished and off putting... :(
Considering Natsume's games going from nodes to a full on mine to multiple full on mines, that would be really weird and feel like a step back. I'm not saying it's not possible, but it definitely wouldn't feel good if they did.

Oh good there is fast travel. For ANY game that has an open world, I want to see fast travel lol. I don't know when I'll get this game because there's a lot others I've yet to get (including SoS: It's A Wonderful Life), but we'll see.
It looks interesting and I want hope so might see if my library might get a copy for me to borrow and see before I buy. I'm glad my library had One World to borrow because I would have been sad to have bought that before updates (I haven't tried it since it got updates so will try it again later once my game log gets better).
I think for an open world game, losing stamina as you run around to explore seems silly to me. At least there's mounts and fast travel. Maybe if we can have it as a setting you can toggle on or off? I like options.
Sometimes I think people put too much emphasis on graphics and less on gameplay. I do think good graphics make some difference, but I would say having new creative ideas implemented well and/or attaining and listening to feedback would be great indicators also.

I love it too! I played it A LOT more than PoOT (which I loathed), and even own the collector’s edition with the diorama. There are dozens of us that like One World! Dozens!!

I did not like One World at all. Honestly at this point I have very little faith in Natsume's willingness/ability to match the quality of Stardew/SoS/RF, and I'm not even a huge fan of the latest installments of the latter two. I feel like smaller indie studios are doing a much better job at satisfying fans of the genre because the "old hands" have become too comfortable in their formulae to innovate. Based on what I've seen now, I can say that if this was a Story of Seasons game, I would pre-order it immediately. However, Natsume hasn't earned my trust enough to buy one of their games yet. I'll be watching for your future videos (maybe I'll even find a way to make it to a stream or two) and final review! The game looks great, but even though I am a major Switch fan and like to build up my physical library, this might be a rare case where I choose to buy a game on steam instead. I'm sure the gameplay is mostly unaffected, but if the option is out there to avoid big frame drops, I might take it.
Exactly. I love to add to my Switch collection but I think I'll most likely pick it up on Steam for performance reasons. Looking forward to trying it out next month and hopefully we all get pleasantly surprised, but who knows!

i was intrigued, but the severe lack of customization is why i'll be skipping. I could excuse lackluster environments/npc designs and clunky movement, but when you put it all together.. it's pretty sad this is what they have to offer, especially since this is an "improvement" from latest titles. there's so many amazing indie options that offer so much more for much less
I never expected a Harvest Moon game to look this nice, I actually kinda want to get it lol. It looks pretty fun. I'm definitely going to wait for reviews tho, I went back to play Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town so I have time to wait. Plus so many farming games, I also need to play Roots of Pacha more too 🥺So many games, so little time.
They did a lot of improvement, I just wish they added more for relationships and children because it looks like there's not a lot we can do after marriage. I don't understand what is multiple farms in HM or RF never liked the idea, I always preferred one big single farm with the ability to decorate like Stardew, SoS, and Coral Island. A lot of interesting information! I’m glad to see the Switch version looks to be running decently. One World was a hot mess in that aspect but overall I did enjoy that game so I think I’ll like this one. The dinosaur is surprising but does kinda look cute.
Over all the gameplay looks better then the previous few games but im a little dissapointed in the lack of customization especially when it comes to the own character. Having only binary Genders to choose from and genderlocking certain outfits/hair seems a bit outdated to me but im glad we at least get same sex marriage. Aside from that i wish for more farming sims to have a child that can grow into an adult like a wonderful life and its remake did and rival marriages with their own childen like for example "Harvest Moon - Animal Parade" did.
It looks really good! I’m excited but then, I’m one of the five people that actually enjoyed One World 😆 The info about the kids is weird, bc they took after the player in One World. I hope they just misunderstood the question, it’d be a step backwards if the kids looked the same no matter what you or your spouse look like… Also, in OW, I’m pretty sure you could change separate pieces of furniture? I didn’t get around to it in my latest save, but you can make the separate furniture on the workbench, which wouldn’t make sense if you have to use all the same furniture. I’m glad the player house isn’t just one massive room this time, I hated that in OW lol.
Ohhh fancy event. Nice. I still can't really forgive them for taking advantage of the name with super shoddy farmer games and though this looks a lot better, it still doesn't hold up in my book. I always hated the mechanic of managing several locations and moving your home, but maybe I'm just old school. If new HM fans like it tho good for them

Is there a meter to allow the day to be longer? The extreme fast days made sense for older games , that were limited on content. But for a casual, wholesome farm sims.... Well, nothing is less relaxing then having to rush around and not getting to take "your" time. And SO many games are finally understanding that. But if this hasn't changed still, with Natsume, I am sadly going to have to pass.. Not to mention I have my pets irl that are family and I love, that I will eventually have to go through the pain of loss.. I don't need that in HM. Because I couldn't stand that in One World. 😢

I thought so too with the hot/cold clothes thing. In breath of the wild you’re literally surviving in the wild and exploring a huge openworld.. this is harvest moon …I’m sorry but is this a joke? lol can you at least cook spicy food that warms you up? 🌶️ I dunno, it’s an annoying mechanic that I can forgive in BOTW because it has so much going on and it makes sense.. Again this is harvest moon…. I’m not a fan of this idea…
this might be an unpopular opinion, but not allowing marriage or kids until you go through the whole game's story, just seems super stale. For me personally, when i play a game like story of season or Harvest Moon, stardew, whatever. i play with the whole immersion aspect of it. i like going through the story with the mindset of developing a relationship with a npc, who i will later marry and have kids with(if thats an option), i like seeing how the game changes and reacts to me dating npcs, how their dialog changes from if I wasnt dateing them. it's a big part of the immersion for me to be able to build this life while also going through the story, and when rune factory 5 and harevstella did this whole "you cant have kids/marry until you beat the story". it was really disappointing, because what's the point after that? theres festivals and such sure, but all major events that happen are over with, you dont get to see how having a kid or a husband/wife, effects the world around you. theres nothing new after that, and when you get to building a family, it just feels super hollow. kind of sad that this "new" game is going to be going in the same direction.

Or multiple houses and the mechanic to teleport yourself. You could teleport around to take care of crops and animals as needed.

Interested in this because the mounts are so cute but I'll be waiting for your review. It doesn't need to be perfect for me but I would like to enjoy it and sink a good amount of hours into it!!

I did not like One World at all. Honestly at this point I have very little faith in Natsume's willingness/ability to match the quality of Stardew/SoS/RF, and I'm not even a huge fan of the latest installments of the latter two. I feel like smaller indie studios are doing a much better job at satisfying fans of the genre because the "old hands" have become too comfortable in their formulae to innovate.

Based on what I've seen now, I can say that if this was a Story of Seasons game, I would pre-order it immediately. However, Natsume hasn't earned my trust enough to buy one of their games yet. I'll be watching for your future videos (maybe I'll even find a way to make it to a stream or two) and final review! The game looks great, but even though I am a major Switch fan and like to build up my physical library, this might be a rare case where I choose to buy a game on steam instead. I'm sure the gameplay is mostly unaffected, but if the option is out there to avoid big frame drops, I might take it.
Exactly. I love to add to my Switch collection but I think I'll most likely pick it up on Steam for performance reasons. Looking forward to trying it out next month and hopefully we all get pleasantly surprised, but who knows!

i was intrigued, but the severe lack of customization is why i'll be skipping. I could excuse lackluster environments/npc designs and clunky movement, but when you put it all together.. it's pretty sad this is what they have to offer, especially since this is an "improvement" from latest titles. there's so many amazing indie options that offer so much more for much less
I never expected a Harvest Moon game to look this nice, I actually kinda want to get it lol. It looks pretty fun. I'm definitely going to wait for reviews tho, I went back to play Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town so I have time to wait. Plus so many farming games, I also need to play Roots of Pacha more too 🥺So many games, so little time.

animals look very cute, and i like that there is actually dirt in the barn, that you have to clean. havent seen that very often in games yet

They did a lot of improvement, I just wish they added more for relationships and children because it looks like there's not a lot we can do after marriage. I don't understand what is multiple farms in HM or RF never liked the idea, I always preferred one big single farm with the ability to decorate like Stardew, SoS, and Coral Island. Great review Josh looking forward to seeing your playthrough.

A lot of interesting information! I’m glad to see the Switch version looks to be running decently. One World was a hot mess in that aspect but overall I did enjoy that game so I think I’ll like this one. The dinosaur is surprising but does kinda look cute.

Over all the gameplay looks better then the previous few games but im a little dissapointed in the lack of customization especially when it comes to the own character. Having only binary Genders to choose from and genderlocking certain outfits/hair seems a bit outdated to me but im glad we at least get same sex marriage. Aside from that i wish for more farming sims to have a child that can grow into an adult like a wonderful life and its remake did and rival marriages with their own childen like for example "Harvest Moon - Animal Parade" did.

It looks really good! I’m excited but then, I’m one of the five people that actually enjoyed One World 😆 The info about the kids is weird, bc they took after the player in One World. I hope they just misunderstood the question, it’d be a step backwards if the kids looked the same no matter what you or your spouse look like…
Also, in OW, I’m pretty sure you could change separate pieces of furniture? I didn’t get around to it in my latest save, but you can make the separate furniture on the workbench, which wouldn’t make sense if you have to use all the same furniture.
I’m glad the player house isn’t just one massive room this time, I hated that in OW lol.

Ohhh fancy event. Nice. I still can't really forgive them for taking advantage of the name with super shoddy farmer games and though this looks a lot better, it still doesn't hold up in my book. I always hated the mechanic of managing several locations and moving your home, but maybe I'm just old school. If new HM fans like it tho good for them

Is there a meter to allow the day to be longer? The extreme fast days made sense for older games , that were limited on content. But for a casual, wholesome farm sims....
Well, nothing is less relaxing then having to rush around and not getting to take "your" time.
And SO many games are finally understanding that.
But if this hasn't changed still, with Natsume, I am sadly going to have to pass..
Not to mention I have my pets irl that are family and I love, that I will eventually have to go through the pain of loss.. I don't need that in HM. Because I couldn't stand that in One World. 😢

Definitely don't know how to feel about this game, harvest moon has sime small merits but in my experience it hust hasn't been able to keep up with story of seasons, i do want the game if it is actually decent because it looks fairly good

It sounds like they took ideas from Breath of the Wild that that wouldn't be as appealing in other games/genres.
I thought so too with the hot/cold clothes thing. In breath of the wild you’re literally surviving in the wild and exploring a huge openworld.. this is harvest moon …I’m sorry but is this a joke? lol can you at least cook spicy food that warms you up? 🌶️ I dunno, it’s an annoying mechanic that I can forgive in BOTW because it has so much going on and it makes sense..

this might be an unpopular opinion, but not allowing marriage or kids until you go through the whole game's story, just seems super stale. For me personally, when i play a game like story of season or Harvest Moon, stardew, whatever. i play with the whole immersion aspect of it. i like going through the story with the mindset of developing a relationship with a npc, who i will later marry and have kids with(if thats an option), i like seeing how the game changes and reacts to me dating npcs, how their dialog changes from if I wasnt dateing them. it's a big part of the immersion for me to be able to build this life while also going through the story, and when rune factory 5 and harevstella did this whole "you cant have kids/marry until you beat the story". it was really disappointing, because what's the point after that? theres festivals and such sure, but all major events that happen are over with, you dont get to see how having a kid or a husband/wife, effects the world around you. theres nothing new after that, and when you get to building a family, it just feels super hollow. kind of sad that this "new" game is going to be going in the same direction.
I fully agree with this comment. I wanna marry at my own will and pace, not when the game decides I’m ready. Definitely kills the immersion.
