  • Time-lapse of a black-capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) nesting in a hexagonal birdhouse.
    May 8 - Nest started
May 15 - First egg laid
    June 1 - Eggs hatch
    June 22 - Chicks fledge
This time-lapse is comprised of images taken from 5AM until 9PM daily from May 8th until June 22nd. The bird cam used a hexagonal birdhouse outfitted with a dropcam. Six eggs hatched out by June 2nd, and four chicks fledged on June 22nd.
This birdhouse was designed specifically for chickadees and wrens. It has a volume of 800 cubic centimetres which is just large enough for these birds to build their nest but not too large that they spend unnecessary time nest building or too large that the birdhouse becomes a target for squirrels to make their home.
The birdhouse comes with a bracket system, is coated with a non-toxic preservative and is built to last. Learn more at www.earthdesign.ca/hex.html!

About what time of year did it start? We just discovered Chikadees nesting in a box bird house I nabbed from a free pile!
