Crocus Lawn in Bloom

A time-lapse in 2024 after we planted over 10,000 crocuses in the backyard in October 2021. All bulbs were planted 8-12 cm deep, around 15-20 cm apart and it took around 16 hours to plant. We avoid walking on the lawn from when the ground thaws in the spring until they are done flowering and then wait until the end of May to cut the grass. For every one bulb planted in 2021, there are now aroun...

Only a few video clips of the many steps involved in creating our first kitchen cabinet. The walnut was cut down in our backyard in March 2020 and was cut into 1 1/8” thick boards with a woodland mills bandsaw sawmill in July 2020. After 3 years of curing the lumber in our basement, pieces were jointed and planed into 3/4” boards. We used the following Freud router bits: Rail & Stile: 99-763 Ra...

    Stunning ,I did think at one part that the petals opened and closed mirroring the cymbals in an orchestra then as the aerial shot expanded the mass planting , orchestral manoeuvre and Sun came together to make the planting sing . Really uplifting in January. Thank you.

      Not all crocus make saffron. We planted the cultivar Crocus tommasinianus ‘Ruby Giant’, which blooms in the spring whereas saffron or Crocus sativa, is an autumn blooming crocus.

    you have to delay mowing the lawn so the crocus leaves remain to nourish the bulb for next year.

    • @TravisCranmer
      @TravisCranmer 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We generally cut the grass 2-4 weeks later than the neighbours. It's a bit of a hay field for the first cut, but after two cuts at the highest setting on the mower, we start to decrease it to a lower level. By the second week of June you would have no idea that the grass was so long and that the lawn was full of crocuses.

    Will they get thicker as the years go? Trying to build a care free flower garden with spring bulbs and perrenial fall blossoming shrubs. Would they benefit my vegetable garden?

    • @TravisCranmer
      @TravisCranmer ปีที่แล้ว

      They should divide and fill in the gaps a little more every year. I would avoid planting them in the vegetable garden as the leaves will still be around when you are trying to plant vegetables in the spring.

    • @TravisCranmer
      @TravisCranmer ปีที่แล้ว

      We went with Ruby Giant because it was the darkest and cheapest crocus that was available. It looks like Barr's purple is also Crocus tommasinianus so it is likely very similar.
