Especially, thank you for not laughing at 'dumb' questions, as they are the same ones I would ask, but have nowhere to ask. I second those who mentioned learning more about culturally significant beauty trends! PLEASE! Also thank you for doing this!

    As a white girl, I really appreciated learning this! I love how Ebony and Drew answered Lily’s questions so extensively and patiently because, honestly, they were the exact same questions I had. I love Drew’s hair but I think like most white girls I’ve never wanted to ask questions for fear of seeming, at best, uneducated and annoying and at worst, potentially racist. Please please do more videos like this! I would love to see Zelda back!!

      Admitting that you’re an educated about something just mean that you want to learn. To be ignorant just means that you don’t have knowledge of a certain subject. So don’t be embarrassed of being ignorant and then asking questions about that ignorance.

Also greatly appreciate how much I learned from this video, the patience of the women for what I'm sure they feel are dumb question and graciously answered for people who just do not know, and weighing in on important topics that should be understood. I did not even know that certain hairstyles like that could be viewed as unprofessional and that baffles me but I will make sure to speak up if I see it happen to anyone and help in any way I can because gorgeous hair like that should be celebrated not hidden. Please do more cultural things like this! So fascinating and made my day to expand my knowledge in such a fun way like this

    I don't exactly know why but I really love this.. Seeing black people teaching and showing a curious white person how they do their hair and stuff and being encouraging and letting her ask whatever questions she wants is really nice. I feel like most of the time people would just make fun of her for not knowing these things, but these two aren't and that really warms my heart for some reason.

    I had no idea people were getting fired because of wearing their hair in braids! That makes me so mad! I don't see how they can be seen as unprofessional or "ghetto" even before it became "cool". You wouldn't get fired for cutting your hair so why should you get fired for having braids?! It makes absolutely no sense to me! I'm so appalled and confused I don't even know what to say other than it is absolutely ridicules!

    • @lolosmith8340
      @lolosmith8340 5 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Hi Susan!
      Unfortunately, it's not just braids. And it's not just in workplaces.
      Cornrows, afros, dreads, afro puffs, bantu knots, hair scarfs (which is sometimes essential to use/wear for black women), etc. are still considered unprofessional, "ghetto", and unhygienic by ignorant people.
      And the unhygienic comments are rude and far from the truth.
      These hairstyles are not unhygienic. They take a lot of work to maintain. And a lot of people co-wash their hair in-between washes/hairstyling.
      Children have been suspended and even expelled from schools (this mostly happens when the Black child is the minority).
      And the military has also discriminated against black hair and black women who wear these hair styles. And some of these restriction are *_just now_* being overturned.

    Here is what I really liked about this video. Lily, Drew and her stylist really brought attention to the problem of African American women who braid their hair in different ways are seen unprofessional but when a white person does it. It starts a trend. I completely agree with what they were talking about. I hope other people realize that having braids in your hair shouldn’t be frowned upon or seem unprofessional because it isn’t. It can be expressing your culture, your style, protecting your hair or just you liking your hair in that certain style. Regardless of the reason. Expressing yourself through hair is not anything new. I send my love to them and I hope this issue soon turns to be no longer an issue. I love this channel and I have been a proud subscriber for years!!

    • @user-mt1zz4cg6p
      @user-mt1zz4cg6p 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends on who's doing it though. I think the problem is that those styles are not considered "professional" and even if a person who isn't black did them they would be judged. Now for models and celebrities that's a whole different thing, because they can pretty much do what the heck they want.

    • @necessitybanger
      @necessitybanger 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      川畑徹 how is it unprofessional if braiding styles and locs literally been in black culture for centuries if you don’t accept the style it’s pretty disrespectful to the individual

    Me being white and Hispanic, my hair is naturally curly. I dyed it so much and straightened it so much it wasn't even curly. It was straight and occasionally wavy. I had killed my hair and I had to cut it off in order for it to even be a little bit of what it was before I had ever dyed it. Hair on different people and people of different races is honestly so awesome to learn about. ❤ and Drew is honestly so beautiful with or without the braids.

    • @kimmyteddy1029
      @kimmyteddy1029 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That's exactly why I started getting box braids, because the maintenance of my natural hair was too time-consuming for my hectic schedule. I'd rather take 3 days out of my schedule every three months (to take the braids out, wash my hair, and put them back in) than to spend a solid 3-4 hours a day working on my hair.

    • @pancakes1427

    • @kimmyteddy1029
      @kimmyteddy1029 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Anna Conda 3-4 is probably a better estimate, but that’s still way too much for one day. An hour to properly take out and pick out my twists, any where from 1-3 hours to detangle my hair, put product in it and retwist it, depending on how tired I am when I start. My hair is extremely thick, to the point where my braiding lady uses about 4-5 packs of hair on my head to box braid it.

    • @pancakes1427

The most important thing is once you learn about the braids or cultural practice, is not taking it for granted, belittling it, or commercializing it and taking credit (Kardashians, many before them, etc.). Taking it for granted = oh yeah whatever that's just another trend I used for my glory and trampled over for 5 seconds of my life before moving to the next "trend". The braids aren't a trend.
