Thank you so much for posting! I want to do this same route in reverse and wasn't sure about that one section between the trails! Great info! I appreciate you!
I enjoyed watching your JMT video, and glad learn that you have other solo efforts! The Minarets (& JMT) have been on my mind since my youth; Your videos are inspiring this 61 year old to take action Wishing you peace, tranquility & continued success on your journey Thank you, and wishing your continued
Hey there...in early 2022 I saw this video and it really got under my skin. Although I'm an experienced camper, I had never backpacked, but seeing THIS trail made me want to do it. I told my 72-year-old dad (an experienced backpacker, camper, rock climber) and he said "let's do it!" We miraculously got permits and ended up with my two best friends and my brother-in-law joining us. We attempted to do the loop (starting at Agnew Meadows) over 3 days, 2 nights in late June, but when we got to Iceberg Lake, we didn't feel safe trying to cross the slushy, deep, STEEP snow field covering most of the eastern scree slope. Disappointed, we turned back and camped one more night. It was an incredibly memorable trip. We went on a few other backpacking trips throughout the summer and fall, including my first SOLO backpacking trip, AND in October I got to climb Half Dome with my dad and my bestie, then camp with a world class view of Half Dome and the sun setting behind it. In August, we are returning to Mammoth to complete the Minarets loop (starting at Red's Meadow this time.) I just want you to know how your storytelling has impacted us viewers, especially solo female adventurers. Thank you!!! ❤
Thank you so much for this beautiful and informative trail log. I'm planning to do this loop as a side trip while hiking the JMT this coming August (2022).
nice video! rocking some nice Sierra designs equipment! I see that you are an ambassador. don't let it intimidate you. study the map, take your time, there is usually only one logical way to do it. backtracking is part of it. more often when you cliff out going down hill, but it's part of offtrail travel.
Metaphor for dealing with life at 15:09 : "I'm getting to these points every now and then where I'm having a hard time finding the route. Which is normal. ... I just kind of like, if I feel like I've lost it, backtrack to where I know I have a good deal of certainty that I was on-route. And then I look around, and sometimes it doesn't help to look immediately around me, but then I try to look further on ahead and see where I might be able to see a trail. And then I kind of figure out how it makes sense to get to that. And the reason that the route seems to kind of disappear sometimes is just because it crosses over a boulder field or something like that."
First, great video. Fantastic videography!!! Loved it. Just one recommendation - at high altitude you probably want to have a bit more UV protection. My dad (a mountaineer for decades) died of melanoma. I've been hiking at high altitude for 55 years and have also had melanoma. It's worth having light weight long sleeve UV protection like an OR Echo Hoodie. Just commenting as someone who cares. Thanks for posting the video! I LOVE this area!!! Going through again in 2022.
I hiked into that cirque about fifty years ago. On a morning ramble with my camera I was shocked to come upon a helicopter, crashed in the steep rill I had been following. No one was around but it was obviously recent. A day or so later, we met a horse party coming in from the east side with the incident investigators. Certainly the most surprising sight I ever came upon in the mountains - though I am now reminded of some other surprises. Nice camera work you have pulled off and kudos for your solo adventures.
An AMAZING trip! The Miniretts are my all time fav place to be. Camping next to the 7 sisters must have been awesome. You have come so far in you presentation video and audio and back ground music makes me wish I was there ! What a great trip and challenge for you that YOU overcame your fears and went for it! High 5s girl! The Eastern Sierra is my second home that I wish I could spend more time at! GOOD STUFF!
Stunning and dicey are truly the best words to describe those mountains. The reward was worth the effort. I'll probably pass on that hike, though. I'm a little past my prime for that type of scrambling. Thanks for bringing us to another place of beauty.
Such a beautiful video. Please know that you’re admired here on TH-cam. Whatever you have gone through or are going through, please know that people care. I wish you all the best and thank you for all you do! ❤️🙏
Also, I wonder how much of that guy saying the route was undoable "with a pack" was him not wanting to say "because you're a solo female". He underestimated you, big time! 😁
That was a very beautiful hike. I so love the Sierra and there's so many stunning trails to choose from in Ansel Adams Wilderness. Going cross country along the steep talus fields makes me nervous, but looks like you made it. Nice that a competent friend happened along at that time. At minute 7:28 I thought that was you singing! I thought we were about to be surprised with you debuting a hidden talent!
Greetings my outdoors friend, it is so good to see you again. Your hike to Lake Ediza brings back pleasant memories from June of decades ago. The bugs were bad, but the trout fishing 🎣 was great. Thank you for sharing another beautifully filmed video. Your photography skills are excellent. Please take good care of yourself out there on the trail. Stay healthy and safe. 🤗
Your camera skills have really taken off. There were a couple panning views in the beginning that were so stable. Are you using an image stabilization in the camera or post process?
The Minarets are spectacular…gorgeous trip-well done!

I am glad you are continuing. Keep on keepin' on!

Some of those images were shot on my iPhone and some other were shot on a tripod with movement added in post.
