    Hey Nikki. . Seems like this season has flew by. You are approaching that 1k mark, so awesome. Thanks for sharing this inspection.

      It has gone by so fast. Summer is my favorite season so I'm a little sad to see it go. I can't believe I'm almost to 1k. It's crazy. I started the channel at the urging of my teenage son who wanted to learn and do the video editing. I agreed and I really enjoy it. I thought it would be a cool bonding experience for he and I but I never thought I'd actually get subscribers lol. I've enjoyed the time with him, my bees and connecting with so many awesome people online. I was hesitant at first but I'm really glad I did it

    What do you do for bees if you don't have supplies to pull from other hives. Would I feed pollen packets and syrup water through winter? Also, what is better for first year bee keepers Nucs or Packages? Thank you for your insight.

      You have a couple options for winter feeding and it will be your preference. You can do mountain camp and that's basically granulated sugar placed in the hive. You can do fondant, candy boards or sugar bricks. You can make them or order them online. I will typically out some pollen in my candy board or sugar bricks when I make them. The sugar is the more important thing for overwintering.
      There are pros and cons to packages and nucs. Either is a good option. I personally like seeing a hive from start to finish, so I will usually do packages. Nucs are a good option as well.

    I think that the entrance feeders tend to increase the risk the robbing of weaker hives, What do you think?

      Yes, I watch them really close and I ended up taking this one off after a couple days. I seem to have more yellow jackets on that side of my property. The hives on the other side don't get bothered by them nearly as much.

    Very good as always Nikki.
    Your queen is going like Joan Jett 😂
    I've got hives that make brown or kinda grey propolis but I've never seen it red like that. I wonder what they're getting it from?
    That hive is packed for sure!! Have a great weekend!

      @sweetbeefarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jeff. All my hives make red propolis. It has to be the type of trees on the property. We have many acres of woods. I did try to research it once upon a time and what I found said the red is most common in Brazil but I'm far from there lol. It is cool to see the differences based on location.

      @@sweetbeefarms lol....yeah you're nowhere near Brazil Nikki. I have alot of pine and oak here but each hive seems to be different I reckon. I have never seen red tho. You're doing a great job Nikki...keep it up!

    Do you guys get stung even with full protective gear?

    • @sweetbeefarms
      @sweetbeefarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It probably varies between beekeepers because there are so many options for protective equipment and some work better than others. I don't get stung often when I'm wearing PPE. The jacket I wear is my favorite and I've never been stung through it and have never had a bee get into it. I have been stung on my legs a couple times this year. It wasn't really the bees fault. I didn't realize they were on my leg and when I walk I have some thigh rub lol. I could avoid that if I wore a full suit but it's so hot that I rarely do.

      @@sweetbeefarms Another great video, thank you for sharing. Regarding your bee jacket and never being stung through it, what brand or make is it?

    • @sweetbeefarms
      @sweetbeefarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! It's the ventilated jacket from Forest Beekeeping Supply. It's very lightweight too and the veil has really good visibility. You can get them directly through the company or on Amazon.
