She said people started being nicer and friendlier to her after she lost all the weight and she got upset because she thought it was because she wasn’t fat anymore BUT she realized it’s because she was being nicer, more confident, felt better because she was working out and changed her eating habits.

I really really really love this series. The plot is crazy, weird, but also deep. Its really creative, and all these twists are really entertaining to me. At least stuff happens in here, while watching other series I just fall asleep. Plus, everybody is so freaking pretty in this show.

she literally lost 70 lbs on a "liquid diet" lmaoo. liquid diets are meant to be calorie dense so you're still getting your maintnence calories. doesnt matter if it's solid or liquid food. also, if she lost that much weight in such a short period of time, she wouldnt look so fit. she'd look sunken, starved, and her skin would sag because it's not like she worked out to lose it. not to be so technical but desperate or mentally ill people may get the idea that by drinking protein shakes or liquids only theyd lose that drastic amount of weight, which just isnt true.

About the liquid diet, she has binge eating disorder so the fact that she couldn't overeat or binge caused her to loose weight too even if it was a normal amount of calories because she wasn't eating a normal amount of calories in the first place.
I had a jaw surgery which put me on a liquid diet for 3 months, and soft food like eggs for another 2. I've know a lot of people who had the same surgery as me and it's impossible to lose that much weight. Yeah, you do lose a few pounds but nothing that drastic. I know it's a show but come on.

She played the role so well though, a lot of people struggle with ed, and there are many ed's one being being eating due to their emotions, at the end of s1 i'm pretty sure she ate a cake cause she was really deppressed/emotional/sad and she binge ate, it brings awarness to this type of ed and I think it's a nice show
That scene was so intense bc it was just silence while we watched her stuff her face for a whole minute. I even started to feel sick to my stomach not just from the thought of being over stuffed, but thinking how sad and hopeless she felt in that moment. I noticed other eating scenes were like that too so we'd never forget how much she loves to indulge in food, especially when she obsessively avoided it.

I watched the whole thing, and man this show is A LOT. It's like a bunch of writers came together in a brainstorming session and just said 'yes!' to every single idea that was thrown on the table. Three coming-out stories, cheating, 'revenge', an underage girl having a crush on a much older married man and ruining his marriage but then getting over it, being fat, getting bullied, losing weight, a jock volunteering at an LGBTQ center, trans women washing dogs, an alcoholic single mother who may or may not have been sexually abused at a young age, an abuser who may or may not be the main character's father and who gets invited to her birthday party and then arrested, pageants and petty rivalry, a demonic possession, an exorcism, a possessive and insane boyfriend and last but not least: murder. All rolled into 12 episodes. It was a wild ride I'll tell you that much. Too bad none of the ideas were particularly well worked out (how could they be when there are so many in so few episodes), and I'm still waiting for the clue of the whole story.

You just described events from the show, lol, that's not really a critique. "It's packed!" And? Having a busy plot isn't a flaw. And the plot itself is clear and easy to follow: it's a character study of Patty, her bpd and past trauma, and how losing weight doesn't solve her problems. The other things are small events or episodic events, like the dog wash. I don't know how Brock working at an LGBT centre in any way makes the plot too busy lmao, and only one of the people at the dog wash was a trans woman, the rest were clearly drag queens. Maybe the story made more sense to me because I could see what tropes they were playing with; YA love triangle, dumb jock trope, et-cet. The show isn't as bad as half the critics are insisting it is, but bandwagon hate is a hell of a drug lol.

The characters have their insides on the outsides. It's what would happen if you take the typical fluffy teenage comedy, and like in those movies, gave all the characters the motivation to follow their dreams. Only they kept all of the flaws and selfishness and mental illness of real people so their decisions aren't guided into a glorious series of contrived victories. It's crude and funny and no, you're not supposed to root for the cheating husband or the undiagnosed teenage girl clumsily trying to break up a marriage or the lesbian who is so in love with her straight friend she keeps coming back like a kicked puppy when the friend does something shitty. Like a lot of teenage comedies, everything in the show is actually pretty horrific - bullying, sexual harassment and coercion, and clinically significant behaviour are commonly depicted in these movies, but up being glossed over. This show makes the gloss sarcastic while upping the stakes, since people regularly enjoy shit like the thumb slip in Bring It On or a whole movie themed around guys manipulating women into sex because being a virgin is for losers, without even a second thought.
Jesus this is literally what I thought about the series. People got so triggered by the show, and its become one of those shows you either watch for entertainment or for some odd reason watch to critique about how far removed it is from reality like people are using Netflix for life advice??? I'm so confused about why people don't see that Patty is clearly some sort of batshit crazy and the 'shocking' scenes are literally meant to show how unhinged she's become throughout the series.

Honestly, a lot of the popular kids at my schools aren't thin or muscular whatsoever. Some are actually intelligent lifeforms, though I can't say the same for all.
But, at least in my school, almost nobody cared about your body. If you're skinny, okay. If you're chubby, okay. If you're funny, then you are popular. But even still, most kids are pretty chill. Honestly, Jessica and whatsherface were the only "popular" girls that were skinny and also were absolutely bitchy and very stereotypical, and let's just say they were silenced pretty quickly.

The thing is, a liquid diet just means you have to puree your food. So just because she's on a liquid diet doesn't mean that she's magically eating healthy amount / portions of food. Milkshakes are liquid.
And the other problem is now that her jaw is not wired shut, there's really nothing stopping her from going back to eating the stuff she was eating before.
Plus in only 3 months?? Like wtf, in a month usually the most weight you can lose is like 8 pounds at a healthy rate in a month. So like only 21 pounds, she would not be the tiny. Plus i doubt she was even working out during all that. The show makes 0 sense.
@@spooks404 ya, 3 months is a pretty short amount of time to go from fat to skinny... but it can be done... back when I was a teenager, I struggled with anorexia. I was very large (over 250) and just stopped eating. I would lose 12 pounds a week for the first few weeks... It was by no means healthy, and I don't recommend it. But rapid weight loss can happen... keeping it off with that strategy, that is another beast entirely.

When it come to the show. It really doesn't make a lot of sense.
Okay sure but 1. It’s a show and 2. If she’s given certain portions everyday, there’s likely a MASSIVE calorie deficit. She probably was eating close to 3000 calories a day, and it probably got chopped down to 1300 which is huge and especially with liquids, and it would likely all be healthy foods as well . I mean I doubt it’s possible to lose that much in such a short period of time, but she could likely lose a lot more than 20 pounds.

The thing that makes this show so funny is how unrealistic it is. I feel like its mocking the culture and tropes of teen movies. Like in no world would any of this ever happen, especially not to one person. Its a pretty good show though.

I feel like at some point they failed to exaggerate. Scream queens is one of the GREATEST examples that exaggeration/mocking makes a difference and treats important subjects with humor. The show definitely got weird at times. Like definitely. But I actually enjoyed the show. From its dark sense of humor to how relatable it is on a certain level. Dealing with her weight and how much she eats or how little she eats just felt so relatable. She feels bad about herself just because she eats and it hurts bc I know manypeople, myself including feel like that as well.

Okay this scene is one that for some reason is stuck in my head, and I’m about to go on a tangent as to why I think it is, so bear with me if you want to.
The scene is the classic troupe of, “cute guy helps the bullies main character” with the motive being that he has feelings for her. I will give this show minor praise for not using this cliche of the hot guy being into the bullied girl. This scene feels more real life then just a troupe. Patty’s response to him helping her, is genuine. Patty is making the assumption that Brick likes her back because he helped her which isn’t unreasonable. I’ve had guys be nice to me and have thought they liked me and was bullied in school. This scene could have been a simple exchange of kind gestures, saving someone after passing out, and then a thank you with a coffee. Brick is hot, pretty, fit, etc. He doesn’t have the same perspective Patty does. He isn’t bullied and he has plenty of friends. When he is asked out after rescuing her, his response isn’t entirely unreasonable. Is it rude and does he come across as an asshole. Yeah, little bit but it’s because he is used to nicer people and doesn’t have to worry about people bullying him. He helped her, cause he believed it was the right thing, not because he had feelings. Patty thinks he has feelings for her because no one has done anything that big for her.
If the coffee thank you gesture was simply a thank you gesture or even just an offer to hang out then it’s possible he could have just said no thank you. When the suggestion of a date is implied he realizes his actions were perceived the wrong way. Again, is he an asshole for the lines he was given at the end of this scene? Yes. But again, his world is different from Patty’s. It could be that Patty is not the first person he has helped and then received a date invitation from. We don’t see his past so Patty may not be the first, and it could be he has helped other girls at in and outside of school.
This scene isn’t terrible, it takes a troupe and says “no this is not the reality of the world”. I have not watched this series and I’ve heard things about it. From what I can tell it’s a dumpster fire of a series for several reasons but this scene is one of the few scenes that does well and flips off the stereotype of guy saving girl cause he’s into her. Brick is just trying to help, expecting no reward, Patty takes this as a sign of affection towards her after she thinks she has no chance and has been bullied for so long, and it furthers her motives as someone getting revenge on those who wronged her for being fat.

All characters in the show are basically terrible people. You're not supposed to like them. It's a commentary on "beauty is on the inside" by responding with "ugly is on the inside too". Getting skinny did not suddenly make Patty a better person. Her ugly was on the inside and her physical beauty after getting skinny just helped her get away with terrible things. She's not supposed to be a likeable character. You're supposed to hate her and that's the point.
But apparently some people still took this show seriously despite the joke of a first episode. It's basically throwing it's rediculousness at you. As stated, I don't understand how anyone could have seen this show and took it seriously. It's making fun of everything it can get it's hands on

I think it tried to be a dark comedy, but the writers didn't know what dark comedy was so it kind of straddled the fence. This kind of shallow comedy worked in scream queens because the chanels were overtly racist, elitist, selfish and mean but the show constantly reminded us that they weren't good people. I think I was supposed to like Patty and empathize with her but it's hard to empathize with a cruel and selfish person.
I also thought the show would have cannibalism so I was a little disappointed that patty didn't eat anyone. A missed opportunity, I think.
