Holy fuck. I think I saw old wartime footage of my great grandfather in there... He is blurry, but he was fairly high in the SS and supervised multiple factories... His son, my Opa, received a full pension from Lufthansa until the day he died. And he left Germany at the age of ~21 in 1950... Obviously the factory had a different name prior, and was not the only one he worked at either. Those workers went through a lot. Returning to work daily, despite half the buildings being destroyed in the night. Some doing repairs while the others working whatever lines were still operational. Their city progressively being destroyed day and night for years on end. Most rented apartments knowing owning a home was all but futile in those years with a good chance you will return from work to a pile of rubble. Or wake up dead. My opa returned home from work to his own apartment complex being obliterated during a day time air raid. That was the day he always joked about having had tripped over a person's leg. Not a homeless guy. Just a leg. He only revealed in the last year of his life that the reason that day scarred him so deeply was because the night before he found a stray kitten in the woods while hiking. And brought it home, fed it, played with it. Named it. Went to work the next day. And came back to finding that it had pretty much been hit direct with a 500lb bomb. That kitten would not have died like that if he left it in the woods... And he never liked dogs much. He was in the Hitler Youth.. Cat person till the end. IDK, this is pretty surreal. It might not be him. But I have old photos and it looks a hell of a lot like his father.
