  • Picked up this 150 gallon aquarium, stripped off the paint from the back of the aquarium, cleaned up the glass, carried it downstairs and repainted the glass. It turned out great. Check out my other video where we build the stand for this aquarium.

Nice video! I tried painting the back of a 10 gallon aquarium for the first time using latex paint. I let the first coat dry thoroughly before applying subsequent coats with a roller. However, I found previous coats were coming off in certain areas as I applied the paint. What did I do wrong? Thanks.

I like to start by cleaning the glass with simple window cleaner. Then, I use a regular interior latex paint (not the high gloss, just my preference), and that's it. I have painted many tanks and have not had any issues with..... ohhhh.. wait? Yes, I think I know what you are talking about! Sometimes the new went paint on the roller will pull up the other paint from the glass when you roll on your second coat. Ah. Yes... I would try two things. Make sure the first layer is good and dry (you said you do that) then, I might sonsider changing the type of roller I am using to a thinner nap, instead of a thicker one. See if that helps. Good luck!!!!!

I used my heat gun not getting to close to the paint directly. Just warm up a little section and pull it off slowly in one large piece, worked awsome. Took about 10 min but came right off

This is great advice. Thank you for sharing. I have a heat gun, but it never occurred to me to try it.

Nice work, what paint (brand/color) did you end up using? I'm about to do the same with a black spray painted 75g. Thanks.

I used regular latex paint the same kind that you use to paint your living Room walls. I don't care for spraypaint because it's much harder to remove from the tank if you ever want to change the colour. There is a another video on my channel that shows me removing black spray paint from a 110 gallon tank. I chose to use a colour called clipper ship blue that I bought from The Home Depot. I have had black tanks in the past.... You are gonna like how that turns out! I might do a black paint again in the future.
