Very fond memories of being in grade school, staying up to watch Letterman on our old 19-inch Zenith black and white portable, and sticking around to the very end as this played. There was a real element of that in general in the '80s, that things turned off at night and there was a bedtime, and the middle of the night was a kind of mysterious terra incognita that was mighty thrilling to a curious kid. That's gone now.
I think this is a *brilliant* video composition by the WCMH staff, from the choice of music to the editing, distorted shots of downtown and the empty studio as disembodied hands pop in from off screen...the whole thing just *feels* like 2:00 am.

I would love to see more of Northeast Ohio sign off's including WBNX, WOIO and WUAB cause I remember watching it and I don't have that actual footage that have the sign-off.

Is that Hugh DeMoss in the United Way PSA? He was the lead news anchor at WLWC/WCMH from the Crosley/Avco era until the early '80s.

I thought it was John Vernon (Dean Wormer from Animal House)

Btw, I believe that CALL evolved into what is now known as the 211 information line network.

They had the same style logo as sister stations at the time WJAR in Providence and KSAT12 in SanAnt…

Wasn't this their "That's What Friends Are For" promo campaign? (For...four...geddit? Nyarf nyarf! Those clever marketing people!)
