Finally found a video that shows everything on how to disassemble the whole lens. I have Nikon 300mm 2.8 with lots of fungus on it and been looking for some videos here on TH-cam. Thank goodness I saw your video, I hope i can do it the same as you did.
Thank you, I have to replace the manual / auto ring on the zoom ring as it has split, you have been able to show me nearly everything i need to do this repair.
Hi! Great video! Why did you attached the focus group to the front element before inserting them back in instead of putting in one at the time in the reverse order that you took them once, hence not needing the suction cup?
Great video perfect explanation step by step 🙂👌 Id like to ask you if you have experience with disassembling and cleaning 300mmf 4 D ed.Thank you in advance
Hello FotoSun, I have watched your video a number of times getting ready to disassemble and clean this exact lens. I have some haze that needs to be cleaned. But while I have it apart, I also need to replace the M-A ring. Mine is cracked and taped currently. I have the parts and am ready, but since this wasn't one of the repairs you showed, I am curious. Is there any additional disassembly needed to put this new ring on when I get in that far? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for the great video. It's hands down the best one I have found for this lens' tear down.
My d-ring doesn't move the aperture. What's wrong? I can't see any place that metal plate should attach so that it could move the aperture? AF-S D model.
Nice video, impressive to watch. Was hoping you could help me with a question regarding the front part of the lens body - it is held with two screws as far as I can tell. One of my screws is missing and now the front is not as tight as it should be. Do you know what size screw is needed to replace the original? I could try and remove the remaining one, but I am afraid this might lead to more problems.
Sir, i own a 80-200mm Nikon ED. Lens. Do not know why this lens only can Auto focus at the zoom range of 105mm. I seldom use this lens. And I attached it to my D600 Nikon body. Looking for you advise and thanks.
After reassembling everything now my focus ring doesn’t always engage in M I believe there is an issue with the pins and also in AF it won’t work at all, i can hear the motor spinning but doesn’t do anything. Any help?
Optics with that zoomfactor are never good. I guess that you have variable aparture. Sell and buy new ones with smaller zoom factors and you will get sharper pictures with less blackouts. Just a tip:)
Hi do you do repairs on Lens? I have a Nikon 80-200 D that need a new Aperture Ring..I tiny piece has broken off giving me an error when taking pics. I can fix it by adding a piece of tape but does not hold. Thanks bob
How does the fungus get inside so deep? the air is pulled in while zooming? How did you clean it with just a wipe? lighter fluid cleaned the lens but what kills the fungus?
Hello, thanks for the video! I have a question: If I only want to clean the second front element, is it possible to access it from the front of the lens, without doing the whole disassembly as you demonstrate? It's a little daunting to me to totally disassemble the lens, I fear I may not be able to put it back together properly. Thanks in advance for your help!
Oh my god ...! You are so brave ! It seems extremely hard . So much fungus !!!! I have a bag of Canon lenses they are infested with fungus (mostly cheap zoom 80-300 , 17-50 or so) I wanna throw it but now I think maybe I can sell 6 lenses for like 20$ maybe some one like you can clean
Hi Fotosun. Great video. I am trying to remove the front element on my lens (the first step in your video) by unscrewing the retaining ring, but I appear to be turning the whole group rather than just the ring itself. (I am holding the focus ring while attempting this) I thing the retaining ring is stuck in its thread - do you have any tips on how to free this up?
Try dripping some lubricant oil or WD40.. just few drops. After a while, try it. Or use a heat gun or hairdryer to heat up the ring. CoZ some ring are being gel together and the heat will help softer it
@@FotoSunMY I have this exact lens, and already sent it to a local shop to get fixed, but they said it was not possible. Can that be true? O Is it probably just too much work for them? And in if so, how could I send it to you? I think the phone number in your description needs an Area code too.
Nice video. Do you have any for fixing an auto focus that is non functioning? Would that just be taking it apart and realigning everything properly? I read someone claim that if the auto focus was not working and you just used the manual focus then the manual focus would soon stop working as well.
@@FotoSunMY Oh right. Could you think of anything that would make the AF not work but the MF work on this camera? I guess the screw being damaged or something
@@Greg-tj8rg I'm having to same problem now with this lens. Worked fine, then when I tried using it recently, no autofocus. Tried manual focus ring and that wouldn't work either. It just spins quite loosely and make a slight grating or crunching sound. Does yours do this?
@@paulgoodall_ I have the same problem. When I look down to the lens, it looks like if it's loose. And makes a grinding and screeching noise when I try autofocus. Manual focus doesn't work either. Hopefully we can get an answer
I have an exact problem with the 80-200 D screwdriver lens . The autofocus works intermittently. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But manual focus works fine. What could be the problem . Does anyone here know a fix for this problem . Many thanks in advance.
Hi there, I've lost my front element of this lens. The optical glass that you took out first when you disassembled this lens. Can you help me where can I buy one of those? Thankyou
My front lens doesn’t come off at all with that lens tool. When I get to the second part of dismantling, from the rear, the small phillip screws got ruined. 2 are stuck and that middle lens doesn’t even wiggle loose. I can’t get the tripod ring off either. I think I will end up throwing mine away…
Hello, pity that you have benefited from the complete disassembly to show how to disassemble the autofocus ring Manual / Automatic. Indeed, on this lens model this ring is the weak point and it breaks often, or the screw that holds the spring button, passes through the ring (this is my case). But congratulations for the work and the video.
I draw a part to put a new screw a little more long. I print the part on my printer 3d. It work very well. The button refind his function and the ring stay in place.
@@FotoSunMY I tried for a while about 30s 350 degrees with a hot air gun on smd components but the glue did not allow the temperature of aluminum could be so 50-60 degrees. No longer did I dare worry about lenses
I'll just pay this guy. NO WAY I would attempt this and I think of myself as pretty good at this sort of stuff. Wow.

What is the price of replacing the manual focus ring with two metal plates? On my lens AF/M switch doesn't work every time and sometimes it slips.
Wow...excellent
