A couple of things... Having seen Stevie Ray Vaughan and Doublt Trouble live several times, if you didn't leave the venue with your ears ringing, and telling your friends "That was the greatest guitar player you'd ever seen or heard", then you were too stoned or drunk to realize what you've seen. I saw him in Austin a couple times and once in Houston and he was incredible each time. To him, it seemed to be just another night on stage and it was just the level he played at all the time. So many great guitar players have called SRV the most impressive player they've ever heard. It's like a who is who of massive stars saying great things about a man who was just gone too soon... The most incredible thing I found out about him was he couldn't read or write music at all. What you hear is just coming right out of his soul. RIP Stevie...

So cool to see younger people dig him. I saw him live April 10, 1988 and it changed my life really. I was 19 back then. Just like watching this every song was never long enough and if by some magic SRV and that audience was still there they would never want it to stop. At the end of the show people sat there with their mouths open. Saw him at a little place that held about 1500 people. I hope one hundred years from now people are still listening to his music and watching his live shows. He was a one in a billion guitar player who loved the blues and lived the blues. RIP Stevie.

This was one of those performances that profoundly altered how I feel & hear music. It's up there with Etta James at Montreux, Hendrix at Woodstock, Pink Floyd at Pompeii, etc. I started looking at guitars shortly after, bought my first stratocaster, & haven't put it down since. Stevie is just one of those artists that force you to feel the music!

Thank you so much for this heartfelt reaction. I was lucky enough to have spent precious little time with Stevie between 1987 and 1990. I can tell you that he was the kindest, most gentle man, who was as humble as he was talented. I will forever remember our talks, knees to knees, and his beautiful, warm brown eyes. He was much more than a musician, though he was only just beginning to see that. There are so many more amazing performances ahead for you. Please keep going! Here’s a recommendation, “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” He was clean, sober and full of life here, and you will hear his keyboard player set fire to the place! Enjoy❤

A very kool reaction 😎! Yes, he 👨‍🎤 is going off on that guitar 🎸making love ❤‍🔥to it with his mouth, behind his back and all lol. He is the front-man of the band: Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble (Tommy Shannon - bass, Chris Layton - drums, Reese Wynans - keyboards). I see 👁👁 you have reacted to Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble before: Texas Flood. Life Without You is a song recorded by Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble for their 1985 album: Soul To Soul. It wasn't released as a single and wasn't eligible to chart. The song was written by Stevie Ray Vaughan. The song was produced by Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble and Richard Mullen. This performance is from the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey, on September 21, 1985.
Stevie Ray Vaughan wrote the song after the untimely passing of his great friend and mentor Charley Wirz, founder of Charley's Guitar Shop in Dallas, Texas, in 1976. He worked on many of Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitars. The White Stratocaster guitar that Stevie Ray Vaughan played that was fitted with Danelectro Lipstick Tube Pickups was made by Charley Wirz with the help of Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar technician Rene Martinez and dubbed: "The Charley Stratocaster". Stevie Ray Vaughan performed and recorded with the guitar throughout his career. It can be heard on the songs: "Couldn't Stand The Weather," "Tin Pan Alley" and "Life Without You". The song's lyrics show his love for Charley Wirz and how much he truly missed him.
    Song Credits 📝:
Stevie Ray Vaughan - guitar, vocals
    Tommy Shannon - bass
    Chris Layton - drums
    Reese Wynans - keyboards
    Lyrics 🗒:
    Well, hello baby
Tell me how have you been?
    We all have missed you
    And the way you grin
    The day is necessary
    Every now and then
    For souls to move on
    Given life back again
    Fly on, fly on
    Fly on my friend
    Go on, live again
    Love again
    Day after day
    Night after night
    Sittin' here singin'
    Every minute
As the years go passin' by
    By, by, by
A long look in the mirror
    We come face to face
    Wishin' our love
    We took for granted
    A love we had yesterday
    Life without you
    Stevie Ray Vaughan Info 📰:
Stephen Ray Vaughan aka SRV was born on October 3, 1954, in Dallas, Texas. He passed away on August 27, 1990, in East Troy, Wisconsin. He was a Blues Rock guitarist, singer, producer, songwriter, and the front-man for the band Double Trouble. Although his mainstream career spanned only seven years, he is regarded as one of the most influential musicians in the history of Blues music, and one of the greatest guitarists of all time. During his musical career, he released four studio albums, one live album, and several singles.
Stevie Ray Vaughan's musical style was rooted in Blues, Rock, and Jazz. He was influenced by Johnny Winter, Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Lonnie Mack, BB King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Buddy Guy, Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush, Guitar Slim, Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Stevie Ray Vaughan began playing guitar at age seven, initially inspired by his brother Jimmie Vaughan. In 1972, he dropped out of high school and moved to Austin, Texas, where he began to gain a following after playing gigs on the local club circuit. He joined forces with Tommy Shannon on bass and Chris Layton on drums as Double Trouble in 1978. The band established itself in the Austin, Texas, music scene and soon became one of the most popular acts in Texas. They performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in July 1982, where David Bowie saw Stevie Ray Vaughan play. David Bowie contacted him for a studio gig in December where he played Blues guitar on David Bowie's album: Let's Dance (1983).
John Hammond heard a demo album: A Legend In The Making, that Stevie Ray Vaughan And Double Trouble had recorded and interested major record label Epic Records in signing them to a record deal in March 1983. Within months, they achieved mainstream success for the critically acclaimed 1983 debut album: Texas Flood. With a series of successful network television appearances and extensive concert tours, Stevie Ray Vaughan became the leading figure in the Blues revival of the 1980s.
The group's follow-up album: "Couldn't Stand The Weather" (1984), was another critical success. After keyboardist Reese Wynans joined Double Trouble in 1985, a third album was released titled: "Soul To Soul", and a live album was released titled: "Live Alive" (1986).
Stevie Ray Vaughan struggled with alcoholism and drug addiction for most of his life. A subsequent period of personal decline ended with him collapsing on stage in 1986 due to alcohol and an overindulgence of drugs. He successfully completed rehabilitation and began touring again with Double Trouble in November 1986.
The band's fourth and final studio album: In Step, reached number 33 on the Billboard 200 album chart in 1989; it was one of Stevie Ray Vaughan's most critically and commercially successful releases and included his only number-one Rock music chart hit: "Crossfire". He became one of the world's most popular Blues performers, and he headlined Madison Square Garden in 1989 and The Beale Street Music Festival in 1990.
On August 27, 1990, Vaughan and four others were killed in a helicopter crash in East Troy, Wisconsin, after performing with Double Trouble at Alpine Valley Music Theatre. Stevie Ray Vaughan's music continued to achieve commercial success with several posthumous album releases and he has sold over 15 million albums in the United States alone. His brother
Stevie Ray Vaughan was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, along with Double Trouble bandmates Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon, and Reese Wynans.
In 2019, Double Trouble, along with Reese Wynans, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and others, recorded the album: Sweet Release, featuring many songs from Double Trouble's mainstream career. The album was released on March 1, 2019.
Double Trouble band members Reese Wynans, Chris Clayton, Tommy Shannon all have remained active in the music industry recording music and performing with other artists and groups.
    Miscellaneous Notes 🗃:
In 1985, he was named an honorary admiral in the Texas Navy.
The album: Family Style (1990), released shortly after his passing, won the 1991 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album and became his best-selling, non-Double Trouble studio album with over a million shipments in the US.
Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton released two albums: Arc Angels (1992) and Living In A Dream (2009), with a band that they created after SRV's passing called Arc Angels. Chris Layton still tours with the band in 2024.
On October 3, 1991, Texas governor Ann Richards proclaimed "Stevie Ray Vaughan Commemoration Day", during which a memorial concert was held at the Texas Theatre.
In 1993, a memorial statue of Vaughan was unveiled on Auditorium Shores and is the first public monument of a musician in Austin, Texas.
In 1993, his mother, Martha Vaughan established the Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Scholarship Fund, awarded to students at WE Greiner Middle School in Dallas, Texas, who intend to attend college and pursue the arts as a profession.
In September 1994, a Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial Run for Recovery was held in Dallas; the event was a benefit for the Ethel Daniels Foundation, established to help those in recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction who cannot afford treatment.

      Miscellaneous Notes 🗃:
In 1994, the city of Austin, Texas, erected the Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial on the hiking trail beside Lady Bird Lake.
In 1999, the Musicians' Assistance Program- later renamed MusiCares MAP Fund, created the "Stevie Ray Vaughan Award" to honor the memory of Stevie Ray Vaughan and to recognize musicians for their devotion to helping other addicts struggling with the recovery process. The recipients of the award have included: Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Pete Townshend, Chris Cornell, Jerry Cantrell, Mike McCready among others.
Stevie Ray Vaughan won five WC Handy Awards and was posthumously inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2000.
In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked him seventh among the "100 Greatest Guitar Players of All Time", with a 2023 update placing him 20th.
In 2014, Double Trouble was inducted into the Musician's Hall of Fame.
Guitar World magazine ranked him as Number One in its list of the greatest Blues guitarists.
On December 21, 2020, it was announced that his 1983 album: Texas Flood, was a 2021 inductee into the Grammy Hall of Fame in recognition of its historical significance.
Stevie Ray Vaughn's guitar of choice, and the instrument that he became most associated with, was the Fender Stratocaster, his favorite being a 1963 body with a 1962 neck and pickups dated from 1959. This is why he usually referred to his Stratocaster as a "1959 Strat". He explained why he favored this guitar in a 1983 interview: "I like the strength of its sound. Any guitar I play has got to be pretty versatile. It's got a big, strong tone and it'll take anything I do to it". He also referred to this instrument as his "first wife", or "Number One".
      Stevie Ray Vaughan Passing 🙏:
On Monday, August 27, 1990, Stevie Ray Vaughan and members of Eric Clapton's touring entourage played an all-star encore jam session at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Alpine Valley Resort in East Troy, Wisconsin. They then left for Midway International Airport in Chicago in a Bell 206B helicopter, the most common way for acts to enter and exit the venue, as there is only one road in and out, heavily used by fans. The helicopter crashed into a nearby ski hill shortly after takeoff. Stevie Ray Vaughan and the four others on board: pilot Jeff Brown, agent Bobby Brooks, bodyguard Nigel Browne, and tour manager Colin Smythe, all passed away in the crash. The helicopter was owned by Omniflight Helicopters. The Elkhorn coroner's inquest found that all five men passed away instantly.
The investigation determined the aircraft departed in foggy conditions with visibility reportedly under 2 miles, according to a local weather forecast. The National Transportation Safety Board report stated: "As the third helicopter was departing, it remained at a lower altitude than the others, and the pilot turned southeasterly toward rising terrain. Subsequently, the helicopter crashed on hilly terrain about three-fifths of a mile from the takeoff point". Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) records showed that pilot Jeff Brown was qualified to fly by instruments in a fixed-wing aircraft, but not in a helicopter. Toxicology tests performed on the victims revealed no traces of drugs or alcohol in their systems.
Stevie Ray Vaughan's funeral service was held on August 31, 1990, at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. His wooden casket quickly became adorned with bouquets of flowers. An estimated 3,000 mourners joined a procession led by a white hearse. Among those at the public ceremony were Jeff Healey, Charlie Sexton, ZZ Top, Colin James, Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt and Buddy Guy.
He was laid to rest at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. Stevie Ray Vaughan's grave marker reads: "Thank you ... for all the love you passed our way".

Fun Fact 🕵: Stevie Ray Vaughan had a distinct guitar sound of his own which was partly based on using heavy 13-gauge strings. Stevie Ray Vaughan's sound and playing style, which often features simultaneous lead and rhythm parts, also draws frequent comparisons to that of Jimi Hendrix. Stevie Ray Vaughan covered several Jimi Hendrix songs on his studio albums and played them often during his live performances.
