@@Geniusignotus Count Nesserode’s despatch of February 27, 1844, on the part of the Russian Government, is instructive as opening out the weakness of the Ottoman Government. “it is the Emperor’s intention that you should declare to the Ottoman Porte, in the form of friendly counsel, that we positively expect no longer to witness executions which array against it the indignation of all Christendom. It is with a view to its own interest, that we address to it this demand. The Porte must not delude itself with regard to the elements now in a state of fermentation in Turkey. Instead of alienation from itself the feelings of the Christina population, the Ottoman Government ought more than ever to labor to conciliate them to itself.” The magnitude of the question is thus forcibly stated, February 22, 1844, by the Turkish minister. “No fresh step was requisite to make us sensible of the importance of this question, with which we are deeply impressed. We are dealing with it with all the seriousness and all the care which its gravity requires. Yes, what your respective chiefs say is true; this question has its political as also its religious side. It is requisite, in fact, that we should separate ourselves from the nation, or otherwise from the Christian Powers; those are two great evils to be equally avoided. The Sultan has commanded that this question shall be discussed in the council of Oulemas, which will be opened on next Saturday, at the Sheik-ul-Islam’s, to which the Gazi-Askes and the other principal persons among the men of the law will be summoned; after which the council of ministers will again apply themselves to it. Do not suppose, however, that we have confined ourselves to direct their attention, purely and simply, to the question as it regards religion; we have likewise submitted to them the protocols of the conferences, the despatches of the two Governments, and even the extract of the newspapers which have discussed this question and we shall likewise communicate to them the instruction which you have just delivered to me, and which, although superfluous as far as the Porte is concerned, may still add to the impression produced by the other documents in their hands.” In communication the Queen’s approbation, April 19, 1844, to Sir Stratford Canning, Lord Aberdeen ends the correspondence with these words, “You have brought to a successful close a question of which the importance cannot be too highly rated,” Even will show the truth of these words. The Porte, even on the 14th of March, 1844, would have put off the European Powers with a statement that the law did not admit of any change; but such measures as were possible should be taken. The Ambassadors of the European Powers refused to receive this. At length, on the 21st of March, 1844, the question of religious execution was, as our Ambassador observes, “happily and, to all appearance, conclusively settled. The concession has been obtained with great difficulty by your lordship’s instructions, to overcome the obstacles which were raised against us.” He enclosed in this letter the following “Official Declaration of the Sublime Porte, relinquishing the practice of Executions for Apostasy.”

The Jewish Legion, officially known as the 38th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, was formed in 1917 during World War I. It was the first all-Jewish military unit to fight under a Jewish flag in almost two millennia. The legion consisted of several battalions: 1. **1st Battalion**: Composed mostly of Zionist volunteers from the British Isles and led by Lieutenant Colonel John Henry Patterson, a Christian Zionist. 2. **2nd Battalion**: Formed primarily of Jewish volunteers from the United States and Canada. 3. **3rd Battalion**: Included Jewish volunteers from Palestine and Egypt, as well as Jewish residents of the British Mandate of Palestine. These battalions played a significant role in the British conquest of Palestine from the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Instead of alienation from itself the feelings of the Christina population, the Ottoman Government ought more than ever to labor to conciliate them to itself.”
The magnitude of the question is thus forcibly stated, February 22, 1844, by the Turkish minister. Do not suppose, however, that we have confined ourselves to direct their attention, purely and simply, to the question as it regards religion; we have likewise submitted to them the protocols of the conferences, the despatches of the two Governments, and even the extract of the newspapers which have discussed this question and we shall likewise communicate to them the instruction which you have just delivered to me, and which, although superfluous as far as the Porte is concerned, may still add to the impression produced by the other documents in their hands.”
In communication the Queen’s approbation, April 19, 1844, to Sir Stratford Canning, Lord Aberdeen ends the correspondence with these words, “You have brought to a successful close a question of which the importance cannot be too highly rated,” Even will show the truth of these words.
The concession has been obtained with great difficulty by your lordship’s instructions, to overcome the obstacles which were raised against us.”

It wasn't a British plan but rather a plan INSERTED into British politics by direct and indirect coercion and misrepesentation and more than a hint of the assistance it would bring to the British War effort from which some in Germany derived the slab in the back' perception.

For the first time in my life, I need to say that Arabs were right.
Right about what?
Thank you!
The "Palestinians" are an invented people.
Says a lot about yourself that it took you to admit that
Arabs were right about what?
That's what many don't get, if the Arabs were really "Palestinians" - as a nation, and had a country already - no one would try to make this place someone else state.
There was no Palestinian state because there were no Palestinian people, they were Arabs who was about to be part of Great Syria which would make them refer themselves as Syrians.
This is literally the only actually accurate detailing of the origins of the conflict on this platform, or any other popular platform.
I can't thank you enough for tackling such a contentious point of history
I will continue to learn about this conflict via reading books as well. This stuff is interesting especially with what's happening today in America. I believe a lot of history is biased so it's to read varied accounts.
Dear Jerry ,If you haven't already ,a great book on the subject is 'O'Jerusalem' by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins. Its still in print ,I'm sure you won't be able to put it down.
It's tough to find unbiased sources today...A lot of propaganda flowed from the palestinians in the last 58 years, which undermined the truth, and made the whole history a very controversial and inflamatory issue...
thank you

Reading varied accounts will never help you. In the end you will be more confused! You have to ask the People who were Cheated out of their Homeland. Only then you will get the truth; they have nothing to gain by lying.

The Arabs didn't have to go anywhere, and the Zionist leaders encouraged them to stay. They left at the behest of their own leaders, who were more concerned with maintaining power than with the welfare of their people.
The quote from the London Jewish Chronicle was hair raising in its racism.
I didn’t find it racist. I found it logical. However I found it to be wrong. The British authorities were doing very well on behalf of Jewish settlers.

The Jewish Legion, officially known as the 38th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, was formed in 1917 during World War I. It was the first all-Jewish military unit to fight under a Jewish flag in almost two millennia. The legion consisted of several battalions:
After the war, many members of the Jewish Legion went on to become prominent figures in the Zionist movement and played key roles in the establishment of the State of Israel. - ChatGPT
