    Thank you so much for this overview! I'm so excited that I now know how much this machine has to offer. I bought one from my niece since she upgraded and I am grateful for this lesson since I didn't get the benefit of an overview from purchasing from a dealer.

    Wow, you're a life saver. Fabulous help. Just 2 things I needed help with not mentioned. The Stop/Start button ( since hip issues it's all I use - love it ) To action it Press and Hold ( I thought it was broken lol) And out the box if your machine is making a horrendous grinding noise ( I was so panicked!) it is probably the bobbin winder pushed in - so pull away and it stops! Seems it is common issue. Bernina should fix that as it is an awful noise/shock. But thank you so much - I have watched twice and will watch again

      I'm thinking of getting a Bernina now after sewing on a singer machine for 40+ years until it went dead, which in those days were made in Germany. I worked on my daughter's Bernina 335 which I love it. I like 335 but also I like 435 which I'm inclined to get. But I fear and not confident with the push buttons. Old school 🙂 I will be using the machine for dress making. Now that I've retired I'll be sewing more. Please help to make the right decision.

    This is a wonderful video! I just ordered this sewing machine and decided to get a leg up on how to operate it. One question though. Why doesn't the 435 have the thread cutter button? I bought my daughter the Bernette B38 and that one has that button! Why didn't they put it on this model?

    • @sewingwithcodyandpete8651
      @sewingwithcodyandpete8651  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only reason I can think of for them leaving off the thread cutter and the ability to use the BSR is to make a less expensive model. By leaving those components off it lowers the price. This is why for us the 475 is a more popular model, but the 435 is just as amazing of a machine. :)

    • @Octu2

      @@sewingwithcodyandpete8651 I just picked up my machine. Was very sad that many of the accessories that was on my old Active 240 were not included with this machine. No free arm, no accessories hard box and instead a useless zippered bag. Now I have to order that :( Luckily my dealer said they would give me a free arm. Less feet too, and thank goodness I took some of the ones from the Active before I traded it. I haven turned it on to sew with yet, but it better wow me, or I'll be sad that I traded it in. hahah.

      @@Octu2 So do you like it? ( 3 yrs later..) I just got one. Speaking to award wining quilters mostly they thought thread cutters useless ( causes nesting etc) and the BSR is not favoured by many. So I saved my money on this one and I'm happy . It has got a free arm though... I got a small accessory box with mine and a lovely dust cover - much more than I got with the Janome 9400

      Hahaha first off I LOVE THE BARAND. I’ve been working with BERNINAs for about 13 years now. I do sell them so I have to know the ins and outs of these machines also as you see I sew on nothing else but BERNINA and I do a lot of sewing so I’ve learned the quirks. Also I teach all of my customers how these machines work so just over the years it’s become engraved in my brain haha. I also see where people struggle with learning some of the machines which is why I created this channel to help everyone learn and love their BERNINA because they are amazing machines 🥰

    Hey Cody, I have a question on my B425. I bought it brand-new out of the box. So far I'm liking the machine, but was wondering why the machine sounds different when the stitch length goes up from 2.5 to 4.0 My old machine was a Bernina Active 240, so less computerized and it didn't sound any different when I changed the stitch length.

    • @sewingwithcodyandpete8651
      @sewingwithcodyandpete8651  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. So with the newer model machines the thread tension assembly is different. So with the new tension assembly it regulates the tension with every needle penetration, so when you have a stitch that does a lot more than the average stitch it is adjusting the tension more drastically so this is why you hear the machine make different noises or more noises than normal. :)

    Hi there! Thank you so much for the great videos, I'm so excited to purchase my first Bernina! I have a question about the 4 Series motor, I was able to try out the 480 at my local store but they didn't have the 435 model which is what I'm hoping to purchase. The 480 felt so nice and powerful and reliable and my question is, do all the 4 series machines have the same motor? I cant seem the find any information about this anywhere online! Thank you again!!

    • @sewingwithcodyandpete8651
      @sewingwithcodyandpete8651  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good Question... Yes all of the 4 series have the same motor actually just about all of the bernina machines have the same motor so they are all just as strong and powerful they don't compromise these things among models. Yes most of us have been out of 435 for a long time and will be for a couple more months unfortunately.

  • @FiddlestixAndStitches
    @FiddlestixAndStitches 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cody, is there a way to backstitch using the specialty stitches that will have the needle backstitch in the exact previous needle holes? I hope this makes sense... let’s say you are using the serpentine stitch and want to backstitch but want the backstitch to be in the pattern.. not wonky..

    • @sewingwithcodyandpete8651
      @sewingwithcodyandpete8651  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know exactly what you are talking about however on the 435 I am not sure 100% sure if you can do it or not. However on the 475 you can so the 435 you just might.
      What you will have to click the (house ) icon, go to your settings (gears) then go to sewing settings (straight stitch and zig zag) icon and then click the bottom right option (three dogs with a hand) icon. After all of that click the backstitch icon and then you will have the option to just sew in reverse or backstep when you click your reverse button. I hope this makes sense.
      So when you change this in the settings its permeant until you go and change it back.

    I just brought home my 435 and am so grateful for your generous information. Question, though: can I use my regular Coats & Clark thread on the standard spool, or do I have to use the “skinny” thread spools? I know this is probably a naive newbie question, but I don’t want to muck things up by using an improper thread. Thank you again for such clear instruction!

    • @sewingwithcodyandpete8651
      @sewingwithcodyandpete8651  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Maureen, So.... Typically we don't recommend using Coats and Clark but there is no law or police that will stop you hahah :D BUT coats and clark is going to prevent your machine from creating the beautiful stitches it is designed to create and some coats and clark thread is coated in a wax that can actually hard the machine over time. But like I tell all of my customers you are free to use what you have available to you. :)

    • @maureenkolis9738
      @maureenkolis9738 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for taking the time to reply! I’m glad to take your suggestion because I’ve already fallen in love with this machine and don’t want to do anything risky. Any recommendations on thread brands? (And I’m relieved the sewing police are only a myth!)

    • @barbm734
      @barbm734 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maureenkolis9738 Mettler threads are what Bernina was calibrated to use. Check brands of thread at your closest Bernina dealer & you'll get more. Hope this helps. Coats & Clark will cause lint to build. Mettler thread is silky and high quality, hence great decorative stitches.

    Hi Cody, I'm hoping you can help me with my B790 Plus. I saw your tutorial on the 9 mm quarter inch foot with the guide to attach to the machine and it's so helpful to know. However I'm making Half Square Triangles--draw line corner to corner and stitch ¼" from that line on each side. I'm not understanding how to use the guide ?? or do I have to take it off to do HST?
    Can you enlighten me? Thank you.

      You are correct you have to take off the foot to do HST. This is the beauty of the 97 because it does not come with an attached guide so you have the option to have a guide or not have a guide. Hope this answers your question.:)
