The percussion section - piano, guitar, double bass and drums - was the engine-room of every band he had! It's where the swing came from. And it don't mean a thing if you ain't got that swing.
Has any other musician in history ever achieved so much with so little as the Count? Just fabulous, I could listen to that intro to I Needs to be Bee'd With all day long.
Bill Basie could flat out play the piano. His pithy style just didn't let most casual observers see that. Here he lets loose a little bit (for him, a lot!!!). Impeccable timing, technique, and taste. ............. and that band, boy did it swing smooth. Possibly the most perfect band in American music history.
Basie said his idea was to simplify. He plays silences like notes. Magical stuff. If you haven't heard it, listen to his version of Shine On Harvest Moon... he strips the melody back to its bare bones yet your mind still follows the tune. Incredible. Listening to the Count I see where Monk was coming from.
The count! Kool so I got too meet him I never new it was him until I was 12 years old! On tv he's humble!alot of people don't count basse had a house in Phoenix,AZ. On bethny home road and it's still there it's a red brick house across from christ town!
Count Basie dá una lección magistral, en el primer tema, de cómo sacar todos los matices al piano, con una falsa simplicidad con su mano derecha. Una obra maestra, su interpretación.
Basie is THE MAN...blessed to have listened to him and his orchestras for 60 years...never gets old...makes my heart and soul sing!
Basie lights a slow burning fuse that ends with the most explosive band of all time.
Sonny Payne one of the greates drummer with Basie !
Basie, Jones, Green, Payne - greatest swing rhythm section ever.
IMHO
...das ist Er, Unverkennbar !!!
How could anybody not like this?
Jag älskar hans pianospel med hans högra hand.
Basie Band was AWESOME.
Oh Boy!!! WOW!! Literally "Music to my ears"
Nice. Not enough piano and bass duets on the Tube...
World greatest rhythm group.

For sure the band from their Kansas City days were hot and swingin’!

The tune is "I Needs To Be Be'ed With," by Quincy Jones.
Count Basie dá una lección magistral, en el primer tema, de cómo sacar todos los matices al piano, con una falsa simplicidad con su mano derecha. Una obra maestra, su interpretación.

I Needs to Be Bee'd With
@scottjb Frank Wess on flute.
woah
He starts out on those keys on the high end of the piano. That's his trademark. Kind of like a high-wire act.
What more could you want?
The guitarist doesn't count enough for it to be a trio.
Basie, less is more.
trumpeter buck clayton said that in his opinion butch miles was the best drummer suited to basies band, he should know
Czy można coś dodać..?
There would be no Butch Miles without Sonny Payne. That's Frank Wess on flute.
You don't hear Freddie playing?
Who's that on flute?
scott j. buxton
Frank Wess on flute for “Cute” by Sammy Nestico.
@@michaelhorton1350 Not by Sammy Nestico, Neal Hefti.
What's the second tune they played?
"Cute," by Neal Hefti.
Without Freddie Green you would notice the difference
I surely couldn't help loving Thessaloniki, the place i was born.
