Ngl. The fact that Percy is being extremely dark and intimidating while Taliesin is wearing a shirt with a kitten on it makes this episode a whole lot better
"You are at the moment the luckiest person in Whitestone, do you know why? Because you're at the bottom of my list." Removes Cap of Disguise. Hail Taliesin as one of the most dramatic and badass players I've seen.
The entire scene, everyone including Matt was just waiting to see when he would finally remove the hat, and boy did Taliesin fucking DELIVER!! There are many reasons why Percy's my favorite character, but many of them definitely come down to Taliesin being such a fucking fantastic actor.
Ripley: *sees percy and start smiling* Keyleth: "She's a nervous laugher" Vax (points on Percy): "He's a very good shot* Vax (points on Vex): "She's a very good shot* Vax (Points on Grog): "This guy turn things into the Jelly of the month" Keyleth: *starts gigling* Vax (points on Keyleth): "She's a nervous laugher" God those gags are so on point.
@@ARreckless14 As someone with disabilities that makes me miss things like this often, these are actually helpful af, and if you don't like it, you could just not be a dick about it
If Percying is rolling a nat 20 and Wheatoning is rolling a nat 1, then Vaxing is disappearing from the group, winding up in a very dangerous encounter all by yourself, and nearly dying in highly dramatic fashion.
Taliesin is such a good role player, he always has the greatest lines. "Because you're at the bottom of my list." "You were the one I was least looking forward to." God damn!
I wasn't a huge fan of Sam at the start, but I have to admit, he won me over. He is a GREAT team player, he doesn't metagame at ALL, and he is ON POINT with the bardic inspiration songs. It's honestly amazing.
+Peter Cameron well, technically the only time he's metagamed is when he asks and bases his inspiration on whoever is next in the initiative. it's not really a big deal, and nowhere near the levels of Tiberius "metagamer" Stormwind.
The "You're saying this castle is filled with a caustic acid designed to dissolve it?" "I take out my potion of acid resistance and I drink it" moment in this episode is the absolutely most real, in-game thing anyone has ever done hahaha
My favorite part of all of these episodes is watching Sam calculate everything and what he wants to do. He puts on a big "I have no idea what I am doing" act but he is one of the most calculating tactics-wise.
Maybe because this is "his" arc but hot damn Percy stepped up. I always loved his little quips but he's been a complete badass since the Brairwoods showed up.
I know how fucking badass!! These past episodes have been so eye opening to how much Taliesan usually lets others takes the spotlight, when he steps up he STEPS up

@@Blasted2Oblivion I've paused my premium subscription for several months; it will automatically resume afterwards. In the meantime I get ads, though I've yet to get any funny transitions, unless I missed some while I was reading the comments with the video running.
This episode has made Vax my favorite member of Vox Machina by far, I love how he sees Percy’s sister in danger and knowing that it’s likely a trap, throws himself into danger just for the chance of saving her. He then proceeds to use an action to give her his last health potion, and then stand in between her and the two animated armor sets. Some people may dislike Vax for his recklessness, but his complete and utter lack of self preservation when it comes to saving innocents in danger makes him the most heroic member of Vox Machina, and I love him for it.
@@DarkMage501 He mean he should have seen someone in danger and run back to the group to strategize with them for the next 15 minutes about the best possible plan and hope that she wasn't injured or killed while they were doing that? Sounds like something you would do in a video game. He saw a person in danger, and he acted to try to help them as quickly as possible so they wouldn't be harmed. Sure, it backfired, but he acted in the best way he knew how in that moment to try to save a life. SPOILERS AHEAD: As opposed to Percy, who gets Vex killed because he acted in the interest of greed in a moment where there is apparent danger to anyone whatsoever.
Should have recked that guy. Assassinate would have made all three initial attacks at advantage and auto crit and his second round of attacks still would have been at advantage giving the first hit another round of sneak attack damage
@@waylonmarble5181 Matt already dealt with that in earlier episodes saying that after the first hit they aren't really surprised anymore which is totally understandable and fair
@@blakewalton428 its of course the DMs call, but I would argue that if youre shanked three times in rapid sucession in the span of less than 6 seconds youre still pretty suprised by the third stab, in fact I would say youre suprised by everything up till your initative comes up. That to me is what the initiative roll is, how fast do you overcome your moment of shock at a sudden outbreak of violence.(Might just be that I am used to pathfinder tho)
so we aren't talking about when Percy said "you will leave whitestone, un-molested by us" and Sam looks up very quickly with a millisecond of absolute joy and then realizes this is serious business
I like to think when Percy said "I will allow you to leave the castle" he actually was going to release her with/without her equipment and just shoot her in the back of the head or something.
I would like to thank the powers that be for taking the Chat off screen permanently! It was so much easier to concentrate on what was going and even more fun to watch! :-)
+Bunk Agreed. Makes the show more fun to watch. As for the sub-only chat, I'm not bothered by that despite BEING a sub. The only thing non-subs miss out on is interacting in the chat room and seeing the show on the rebroadcast. That's all. I don't understand why people are so angry about that.
+Bunk To be honest I disagree I quite enjoyed looking at the chat, I think it helped with atmosphere and made me feel like I was watching live and that I was really in the community. I have no problems focusing on the actual video but sometimes I like to just read the chat
Weazzell From Poolside I disagree. A lot of people just aren't able to ignore the many toxic comments and spam that kept showing up. And besides, a lot of the time, it's too fast for anyone to read. Plus, it was too much of a distraction for me.
"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you." Seems to fit Percy very well.
One thing i have to say about this whole adventure is this. It's really... nice to see group of friends so close and invovled that none of them minds that this huge thing is all Percy's storyline. SO many dnd players would be not ok with that. I love that they are. Maybe it's just matt though, but i dont think so
My girlfriend DMs a lot and she has personal quests as almost a must for all players at her table. Its great because they will help with arcs like this because they have their own arc on the horizon sometime
You know, I've had "Because you're at the bottom of my list." spoiled for me for weeks now and I really thought that would diminish some of the awesome. But, damn, it really doesn't cause I still literally gasped out loud.
I'm just imagining Percy staying up all night filling notebook after notebook with badass one liners. I mean goddamn, 36:30 gave me straight up goosebumps. The characters/players are taking turns being my favourite. Right now it's Percy/Taliesin by a land mile. A lot of the story is resting on his shoulders and he is carrying it like it's nobody's business.
That spell holds a ridiculous amount of weight to it doesn't it? I don't want to spoil for new watchers, but I sort of smiled sadly to myself when they said 'You know counterspell now?' Sigh... @@jonathonbartos3061 that's okay to play your character, but this is percy's arc. We do t know if Matt was going to give percy a dilemma or done dialogue before the fight. If you glued Taliesin's D20 with 20 pointing in to Wheaton's d20 with 1 pointing in, and they threw it together, the un-natural forces of each d20 would keep it from ever landing. It would just hover above the table spinning as they each tried to land.

You know it makes sense that Vax would jump in, both for RP and mechanic reasons. For the former, Vax generally jumps before he thinks. He sees Cassandra in danger and knowing how important she is to Percy wants to save her asap. It's what he'd do for Vex. As a character he's very much driven by his heart rather than his head. He might have agreed to try and be more thoughtful, and he has been, but that can be easily over-ridden in the heat of the moment. A lifetime of recklessness and seeing yourself as expendable isn't quickly overcome. Mechanics wise as an assassin rogue his entire class is dependent on that surprise round. If VM come charging down or fail a stealth check that's blown and his massive damage output is squandered. Therefore it makes sense to take advantage while he has it and he also knows he has the ability to heal her if he needs to. Importantly it led to an intense battle that was entertaining and led to some great RP. D&D is about making choices, and sometimes they're not the most optimal but that's the fun of it.

It's now a drink called The Percy. At least in my mind lol.

@@snapeinvader a total of 88.887 critters supported the Kickstarter
It was 88,887 backers because I'm a horrible person and never ended up backing it :( it's my fault I'm sorry!
xEvilRaptorx DAMMIT you had obe job
"We're 6 seconds in, Talisen" - Liam O'Brien
The coolest line in the episode. He is just so calm :)

Percy: “I have a sister Vax”
This episode... 😒
i swear to god if someone asks for a timestamp of that unironically
1:23:32
This! He knew exactly what he was doing
31:47
„You are the luckiest person in Whitestone. Do you know why?“
„Why?“
„You are on the bottom of my list.“
*Dramatically removes hat of disguises*
This is what I LIVE FOR with Percy. I kind of wish he had more of these moments, but it is the rarity of the moments that makes them so sweet.
this episode is terrifying when your name is Anna
Ik lol
pov: taliesin jaffe threatens you (anna) for three hours (asmr)
@@haventakloo hahahahaha omg
this episode is also crazy when you have a dog named Ripley
Or Anders
"You are the luckiest person in Whitestone, do you know why? Because you're at the bottom of my list."
Brand new Vox Machina fan here and Percy is quickly rising to the top of my favorites.
"you're at the bottom of my list" MAN I got chills

+Phalinx I rewound the video to rewatch Percy (and the reactions) at 31!
+Phalinx 2:03:50 - Marisha starts flipping around a pencil, drops it, and does a funny "no one saw that right?" look around
+Phalinx Do you know the actual song Sam sings to inspire Vex
+rafael martinez Couldn't tell ya sadly. Something that's on the radio though.
+Phalinx It's a parody of "Exes and Ohs" by Elle King- obnoxiously catchy, the original, but somehow I don't mind this version...
Honestly Travis giddily clapping and squealing when Taliesin says "murder entered my heart" is possibly my favourite moment thus far.
Travis is everyone's biggest fan. It's enormously endearing.
I know talisan would have never though his iconic line would be immortalized in a tv show. absolutely my favorite one liner ever. “your the face i saw when murder entered my heart”
I prefer "Life needs things to live!" Pretty nuts that no one thinks about the "Murder" line but to this day a 3rd Campaign and he will never, ever be forgotten.... Would make a great Epitaph "Life needs things to live....unlike me because I'm dead." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Vax: *Steps back a few feet and whispers into earring* “Jenga” *Bursts through door*
You guys have made a new DM out of me. I dm'd my very first session (Phandelver) and my players and I had an amazing and fun time. I've never had so much fun watching what they did. (The wizard nudged a goblin off a bridge with mage hand while the bard belted Guns and Roses song 😂😂) So thanks, guys. Seriously. Thank you for helping me find this amazing world that is D&D.
I'm two years late. Have you continued DMing? :)
Shannon McGowan same thing for me because of this show I got into dnd and because of Matt I wanted to dm and now I am the dm for my group
Same. I’ve played for almost 20 years, but never DM’d. Setting up a game with some friends who’ve never played and we’re starting after the holidays. I can’t wait.
Same here, started putting together princes of the apocalypse
Honestly, the most jarring thing about going back to C1 after watching C2 is hearing Matt use the phrase “making your way” without a chorus of high-pitched musical mumbling afterward every time
31:15
"These are not the peasants you're looking for... " _(hand wipe)_
I was thinking the same exact thing, and Laura just went ahead and pictured it.... that's geekiness at its finest lol
6 years later and that line is adapted to screen....These guys had no idea :D
So happy for them.
Percy’s quiet “Yes.” when asked if he knows Ripley is everything. Taliesin is so good as Percy!
i was KIND OF hoping that the Briarwoods would have summoned a vampirified Tiberius who would attack them while screaming "HELLO MY NAME IS TIBERIUS STORMWIND FROM DRACONIA MOREOVER OF VOX MACHINA OF GRAYSKULL KEEP" on each turn
Uses all of his vampiric powers to cast 92 spells per round. Not counting counterspell.
you must be really fun at parties....
Karthus But that's neither here nor there.
They could have caught him as he came back and was trying to catch up to his party in Whitestone.
lol
Seven(!) nat 20's in this game alone and three of them in a row. Classic Percy.
All natural 20's (including part 2):
Percy (p1. 1:04:34) Investigating Cassandra’s desk
Percy (p1. 1:27:33) Initiative vs. Professor Anders
Percy (p1. 2:00:15) Pepperbox vs. Professor Anders
Vax’ildan (p2. 0:34:30) Thieves’ Tools to untrap the lock
Vex’ahlia (p2. 0:56:20) Stealth check into catacombs (with advantage)
Percy (p2. 1:02:36) Perception check for slivers of glass
Grog (p2. 1:06:57) Survival check to find tracks in catacombs
Percy (p2. 1:09:43) Initiative vs. Ghosts
Percy (p2. 1:11:31) Normal bullet vs. Ghost 1
Percy (p2. 1:12:40) Fire bullet vs. Ghost 1
Grog (p2. 1:42:24) Attack of Opportunity vs. Vex’ahlia (negated by disadvantage)
Grog (p2. 1:56:03) Attack of Opportunity vs. Percy
"Well... that happened." needs to be a shirt. Maybe with a 20 crit die... but that needs to be a thing XD
No one said, "Dr. Ripley, I presume." What a missed opportunity.
Percy gets sooo into his character, I love it. The stares of determination, the clockwork gears turning in his head.
Hes a great performer, they all are!!!
I feel like I'm watching Percy when hes reacting to situations, more-so than I am seeing Taliesin.
You guys are great. So glad I found the channel.
Havn't done anything DnD in decades, you guys/gals make me want to run another campaign.
Cheers!!
Love how into his character Taliesin gets.
Sam's funny one liners are just too good! "That door is locked muthafukah!" I died.
Lindsay Zamorano one of the best lines hahaha
I watched that moment at least five times lol
It's also good to break the tense fights up a little. I love it.
"Ahem...Jenga"
Marisha giving her husband eyes while fanning herself while he waxes poetically the political intrigue of current events xD
This is the comment I was looking for. Not sure if she found him really hot during that or if she was trying to make him stumble.
@@singingwolf3929 timestamp?
@@vlad.6285 start at 12:00
im pretty sure they said they dont have ac in that room so its probably just the heat
It might have to do with Marisha spoiling the Ripley reveal on the previous episode. I think her mischivous grin could be due to herself remembering the situation and finding it funny, as well as Matt being angry at the whole deal.
36:03 Damn Percy. Sending a shiver down everyone's back
"Is good Percy casting Friends or Shadow Monster casting friends?"
Well, really, it's Percy. He got the magic initiate feat, so he has access to a spell and a couple of cantrips.
More likely is a level in warlock - he has hex and it is more thematic of the deal he has signed
They are all mono-classes, he has the Magic Initiate feat with Hex as the 1st level spell it grants, it's on the wiki :)

I wish they still did the "audience votes on creature to fight" thing because I really want to see a door mimic in the campaign.
Waaaaay late to this party, but this has been my highlight so far. XD
Taliesin: I'm wearing a Hat of Disguise.
Matte & Travis: What are you disguised as?
Taliesin: Link from Legend of Zelda
The image in my head: Link turns around, points the Master Sword at someone and shoots a freaking bullet.
Scanlan’s ability to always drop banger tunes at the drop of a hat is amazing
At least he said Jenga before going into the room this time
