    When a heavy deadlift comes off the floor, certain conditions must be in place--or Mother Nature will do it for you. Among other things, the bar MUST be against your legs. Keeping the bar against your legs involves a number of muscles, most notably the latissimus dorsi. In this video, Sully explains how a simple cue (Armpits!) can help you aggressively recruit the lats during the setup, which will make your pulls stronger and smoother and help you set your back as a fringe benefit.

    This past December, at age 70, I deadlifted, in competition, 424. Squeezed my armpits till they almost cramped !

    And just like that Sully imparts some actually information regarding deadlift form that you will not get anywhere else. I have been watching youtube deadlift videos for about 10 years, I have yet to see someone explain it like this. Simple, straightforward, reasoned and correct. I will incorporate this into my next deadlift session - thanks champ!

    Thank you Dr, Sullivan for your TH-cam channel. I am a 67 year old female doing Crossfit. The armpit tip worked great for me today! I deadlifted 170#.

    This is so understated. Thanks for covering this. I think I was shrugging my traps rather than extending my arms and squeezing the lats. This is a huge difference and a topic not really covered. Thanks again!

    I would pay money just to hear Sully talk. I'm not joking.
    Something about it is incredibly reassuring. Can you imagine that silky smooth voice caressing your ear drums as you straddle the fence between the corporeal and eternal oblivion in the ER? I would die, but in a good way.

      I had the pleasure of hearing Sully talk during a couple strength camps in Michigan. He's the same personality live he is in his videos, and it's some of the best money I ever spent.

      As one of Sully's clients 'silky smooth caressing' is definitely NOT how I'd describe his delivery when I'm under the bar.

    Thank you so much Dr Jonathon. Such an intelligent genius. This video has helped me so much and has answeared all my questions that I've wanted to know for years of how to lift properly when doing deadlifts. The superb Queen rules. The word "Deadlift" sais it all and out ranks the squats anyday. God Bless you

    Just a bit of feedback, I don’t like the style of this video. Mother Nature is a mother! Oh dear, F, F F. There’s no need, stick to the knitting.

    • @GreySteel
      @GreySteel  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually, you sound like my Aunt Gladys. She was a knitter, AND a humorless stick-in-the-mud, like you. She elaborated all kinds of useless opinions and unconstructive criticisms from the safety of her smelly, overstuffed couch, knitting the whole time, while her little rat-dog humped her swollen ankles.
      Yes...I feel you. You are definitely channeling Aunt Gladys.
      Thanks for the "feedback." Have a nice life.
